Job interviews
No way!! :o I thought stuff like that only happened in the movies. "Lady". . . that's funny! ;D Yes, way... I told my boss about it, and he said he had many experiences like that including a guy that brought his mother to the interview. He was 35 yrs old. :-? There was a GMA story on this not too long ago. It was about "over-protective" parents. According to the story, this scene is not too uncommon. If I had a candidate show up with his mom/dad, I'd show them the door and file their application in that famous file (#13). The story also went on to state that the latest generation of college graduates had never been challenged much but coddled all their lives. Many can't handle the pressure and last less than six months.

The weekly gas price thread
Too much!! $3.09 yesterday at Wal-mart, but I'm sure it's gone up since.

A Beautiful Night In Memphis
We got the most snow I've seen since I was a kid last Thursday (after being almost 80 degrees a day or two earlier). We had almost 9 inches of the stuff. It was VERY beautiful! The only downside was my wife got stranded away from home. Fortunately, she turned around and was able to spend the night at her uncle's house. My daughter and I got to do some tubing. We had a great time!! As for the bad driving, it's one extreme or the other. Some folks are going 90 to nothing and others are creeping along at 5 mph (even after the roads are clear). The good thing about our snow is that it was gone by Saturday and we had 3 inches of rain last night. It's been a weird week for weather here in North Texas.

Job interviews
What got you the offer was your honesty. So many people put up fronts in an interview. I've always thought that being honest and upfront says something about someone's character.

vent!
TAKE OUR SURVEY AND WIN $1000!!! That would be Wal-mart (who has been promoting a "green" campaign) and Lowes. Very wasteful!!

Snickers Charged
They're trying to cram this stuff down your throat. There was a big RV with with an ad for some kind of energy drink all over the side of it at Walmart the other day. They were giving away free ones. I'll stick to just plain old water and plain old chocolate.

90's video games
Yes, I used to burn some quarters at the 7/11 on those. Let's not forget Pitfall, Space Invaders, and Asteroids. I bought an "Atari Classic" game for the PS2. It's funny how these games were so "totally awesome" back in the day and they are really lame now. I always remember a game that I thought was so far ahead of its time. They had it at the 7/11 across town. It was called Dragon's Lair. It looked alot like today's PS2 and x-box games.

Jeans
Anything under $20 that fits and is comfortable. Redheads, Walmart Wranglers, etc. You CAN go too cheap though. I bought a couple of pair from Steve and Barry's for $9.99 once and the pockets ripped out within a month or two. A darn good pair of jeans (although a bit more expensive- around $30) are Diamond Cuts. They are made with a gusseted crotch and wear just like warm-ups. . . very comfortable.

Official BR.com Movie Review thread
- A farewell to one of the greats...
Edits included "reference quotes". It's all good!! 8-)- What ever happened to this rumor?!?!
Around here (Decatur, Texas) our Wal-mart has stayed about the same with the fishing department. They carry a little less reels in the counter than four or five years ago, but there's still at least a dozen or so. My wife's cousin was a sporting goods manager in Southeastern Oklahoma and they did away with department managers a couple of years ago. Here at our Wal-mart there are a couple of "regular" employees working the department, but if you go at night you're liable to speak to a fabric employee who knows nothing about anything.- A farewell to one of the greats...
Sorry Kent, :-[ Since I don't see my "defense of Brett Favre" post anymore, apparently I was part of that "flame war". Back on topic, I liked what one Packer fan said on ESPN this morning: "We've been with him (Favre) for 17 years now. . ." not "He's been with us. . .". That's a credit to his influence there in Green Bay. 8-)- A farewell to one of the greats...
This is NOT news that I wanted to hear. Like all good players, you always hate to see them hang it up. He is, BY FAR, one of the best football players ever. I can't say that I've ever seen anyone play with more heart. Hopefully the Pack will still be competitive with Rogers at the helm. The rest of the team is young and should be strong. Brett will be missed!!! See you in the hall of fame, Brett!!- Roll on or spray on deodorant?
Old Spice red zone, although I had a two year or so stint using Gillette clear gels. I switched to the red zone and really like it. Nail salon or do you do your own nails? ;D- Setting brakes on BPS reel (I figured it out! Thanks!!)
Shellback, I already knew how to set them, I just couldn't find the notch that held them "on" or "off". Your directions ARE very detailed and should be saved to help someone else who doesn't know how. Thanks. Thanks to all who offered help. I guess you guys just prompted me to think about it a little more. I ended up taking another BPS reel (similar) apart and noticed that the notches were made on the end of the spool, not the shaft (or 90 degrees in another place). After setting three of the six magnets, the thing casts like a charm. Thanks again, everyone!! Fisher- Thermostat What's yours set at?
You guys who keep your houses 60 degrees and cooler make me shiver, but then again, if we lived up North, I might too. My programmable thermostat is set as follows for winter: 70 at 6:00 a.m. 65 at 9:00 p.m. On "hold" at 65 if my wife works (sub teacher) for the day. Light bill has averaged in the $90's and natural gas in the $70-90 range. Summer: 78 from 6:00 a.m. 'til 9:00 p.m. ("hold" at 80 if we are out for the day) 72 overnight (we like to "snuggle" a bit at night ) Light bill (while running a pool pump for 4 hrs a night) averages around $150-$250 a month; gas is only $25-30 in the summer.- I EAT, I EAT!! Geez
:'( Cry me a river guys. I'm 5' 10" and weigh around 210. I'd trade any of you guys 30 pounds in a heartbeat! ;D- Meatballs for BR Road Trip
I am not attending, Muddy, but your kindness and dedication to your fellowman is always appreciated. On behalf of everyone here at BR, my gratitude goes out to you. God bless, Fisher P.S. To all of the road trippers, may you have a blessed and safe outing!!- rod headaches
It sounds like you are wanting something for crankbaits (a forgiving tip that won't pull the bait from their mouths). Don't they make some fiberglass composite rods like this designed for cranking?- Setting brakes on BPS reel (I figured it out! Thanks!!)
Watch it old man. At least I can operate a trolling motor. ;D- Best Baseball Movie
Agreed. The original I presume. Walter Matthau was the best in the role of the coach (Buttermaker, I think was his name). I forgot about "The Rookie". I would probably put it over "The Natural" as my favorite. I would put it up there as one of my top three favorite sports movies.- Setting brakes on BPS reel (I figured it out! Thanks!!)
Thanks guys. I can probably just take it to the store the next time I go. Surely a clerk at the reel counter can help me. Besides, the classic sale is beginning this weekend and I'm probably going anyhow. I thought about contacting BPS via e-mail and your response doesn't surprise me Muddy. Thanks for trying, though. I'm surprised that I'm the only one to have asked this.- Quantum Youth Baitcasting combo?
SO, can anyone offer a suggestion for a smaller reel for under $50? - A farewell to one of the greats...
