How about them Patriots
I'm with you there, Glenn. As much as I would like for the Giants to win, I don't think they will. Then again, I thought the Pack would beat them last night. :'( Not to take anything away from the Pats, but I blame Norv Turner for the 'Bolts inefficiencies yesterday. It was quite obvious that Philip Rivers hampered their abilities in the second half. I had to agree with everyone but Phil Simms yesterday when they suggested that Norv put in the back-up in the second half. The guy couldn't even hardly move. I do believe that of recent, if a team can put together a complete game against the Pats (like the Giants did last night), they CAN be beat. Two weeks and we'll know.

BAD DAY OF MUDDIN!!!!!!! lmao
I understand it completely. Back in the day, I had a 1974 Scout II with some 34's on it. I could pretty much go anywhere I wanted to go (within reason). However, driving into rivers. . . well, no. You just have to know your limits. I rather enjoyed slipping and sliding around in the mud and miss it quite a bit. To each his own!

Re: Jonboaters. . . I have a question
Thanks for all the advice guys. It looks like I'll buy a 15 lb. mushroom and around 25 feet of rope.

A Laugh for Football Fans...
Sam, I sense you have some issues with Eli, hmmm? :-? That disheartens me that a football crowd would do that, especially in Indy. It shouldn't matter where our kids are from. If they excel at something on a national level, they deserve much

What is your ethnic background?
My last name is Abbott and Mom's maiden name was Preston (origins would be British, I suppose). Most of my family (at least three or four generations back) came from Arkansas via Tennessee. Beyond that, I would assume that they were settlers dating back to England somewhere. On both sides there's an American Indian or two thrown in somewhere, too.

Its going to be a cold one in Green Bay.
NEWSFLASH: [move]HEATWAVE COMING TO GREEN BAY![/move] I just checked the latest Weather Channel forecast for Green Bay on Sunday. The temperatures are warming to a sweltering 6 degrees for a high and only 0 for a low. There's also a 30% chance of snow flurries for Sunday. Flurries were expected for last weeks game, too.

I need some help
JWO- Weren't you facing this same situation awhile back in a previous post? If so, the on-going struggle to decide is evident. Please allow me to make two points: #1- You mention that you could manage a restaurant and pursue your hobbies in your "time off". I don't know if you have experienced the full force of restaurant management, but let me endulge a little. The lady I teach with is married to a restaurant manager. He is at the restaurant as early as 4:00 in the morning unloading supply trucks, and usually there around 7 or 8 to get the morning "prep" crew ready to go. On just about each night he's there until around 7-8 pm, closing about 3 nights a week. He very seldom gets more than one day off a week and many times works 7 days. Because of problems with low-wage hourly employees calling in sick, quitting with no notice, etc., his wife has been filling in for much of the time. She very seldom is able to have a night at home for herself. They're marriage continues to be shakey at best. I know this might be an exception, but doesn't sound very fun to me. I might add that it would seem that you might qualify for assistant manager in some cases (without a degree), but perhaps a degree in Hotel/Restaurant management might bump up the opportunity and the pay scale. #2- It sounds like your college experience is pretty boring. Perhaps I was just lucky, but after the first two years of college (getting the basics out of the way) mine was very satisfying (then again, I majored in Agriculture Education). As others have stated, perhaps you might try a vocational/trade school instead. You show an interest in the food business; have you ever considered some culinary training? For many, college is just a game of endurance. If you can endure long enough and earn the degree, then you can be a little more selective about which job you get involved in. Perhaps then, things might be more "fun" for you. I don't know what you expected, but depending how close you are to finishing (if you're within 30 hours or so), you might just try and "endure" a bit more so you can start earning some $$$. Then maybe you can attend some night classes and become involved in another trade. If you are a man of faith, I can assure you that the first place I would go is on my knees. Just my .02 and not an endorsement of the site owner or other membership!! God bless, Fisher

He has no life! ;D Seriously Russ, that's very helpful. I'm sure it will be of use in the future when this topic pops up again. You know Glenn's going to love you for starting something. We'll all be embedding video into our posts before long. More bandwidth, please?

Its going to be a cold one in Green Bay.
You must be talking about Gilbert Brown, The Gravedigger. He is still very active in the local community. He also is now part owner of the Milwaukee Mile. He is very approachable and fan-friendly. I saw you guys were talking about home games being sold out. Tickets are not the easiest thing to come by. The Pack have sold out every home game since 1960. And that includes the decade of the 80's where we stunk so bad we were the laughing stock of the NFL. Coaches used to threaten to trade a player to Green Bay if they didn't play up to their potential. Heck, there literally isn't even standing room at the pre-season practices the public is welcome to....practice! What team other than the Packers sell out practice? Without a doubt, the most dedicated fans in the world....kinda neat. People round here really do bleed green and yellow. Go Pack!!! My fantasy football trip has always been to come to Lambeau and experience all of that! I'm sure it's awesome. In the spot this morning on ESPN, the young Packer players were saying they were going with short sleeves. There's a fine line between brave and crazy. Like last week, you'll notice that the old vets (Brett) have enough sense to wear sleeves. I can see going sleeve-less in 30 degree temps, but single digits. . . that's just I can't wait for the game to start. Go Pack Go!!!

Tom Cruise is a nut.
Hey, a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then. Talk about barking up the wrong tree! :-X

Its going to be a cold one in Green Bay.
The way I here it, nothing can keep the Packer fans away. We have a retired couple in our neighborhood who are from there. They've had (and still have) season tickets to the games and have had them for around 15 years. He said he got on the list in 1973. They fly up for a couple of home games and let their family use them the rest of the year. I think if there's any "diehard" fans anywhwere, they are bound to be in Green Bay.

Its going to be a cold one in Green Bay.
Update on the weather for Saturday: Still calling for some light snow and a 4 degree high, but the low is now projected at -6. How about a 0 degree start for the game? Ice bowl #2! Don't underestimate this Packer team. To me, they look about as good as the Super Bowl team of the nineties, minus Reggie and the run-stopper (Gilbert ?) on the line.

American Idol
Regardless, it's good for a laugh! I'm with Mike. There's not much that we watch on regular networks except "The Unit" or "24", and it looks like I won't be watching "24" for awhile (if ever).

How fast do you drive?
We've asked the local police to come and clock the cars that go through our neighborhood. Having never seen them actually do it, they claim that no one was speeding through our neighborhood. I'm sure if they sat visible that everyone slowed down. Your video camera idea would work real good if you had a radar gun to go with it. We've just had to really watch our daughter and completely enforce strict limits with her concerning the street. I'll keep the video camera idea in mind.

How fast do you drive?
Another one I could add to the "grind my gears" thread. In our neighborhood, alot of people use it as a cut-across to a major highway. They come into our neighborhood across a major "business highway" usually accelerating through that intersection. Our house is about 75 yards from the intersection and I swear many of them have shifted into overdrive by the time they get in front of my house. On occasion, I'll "accidentally" let the basketball roll out in front of them. After a good wack upside their fender, they'll slow down. I've even added the comment, "What if that were a kid?" I know that's not very nice, but dirty looks don't seem to get their attention. I drive through neighborhoods with kids under the speed limit (probably 20 or less). The thought of losing my daughter or hitting someone else's kid is way too haunting to me. On the highway, I usually try and keep it within five miles over the limit (according to traffic flow). Usually I'm dead on the limit, even though it seems like I'm crawling. No wonder gas prices don't go lower.

Its going to be a cold one in Green Bay.
The latest Weather Channnel forecast calls for Light Snow Showers, wind, and high of 4 and low of -3. If these temps hold to be accurate, and it drops two or three degrees after dark. . . BRRRRRR!! I think it was something like -17 in the original ice bowl, but with wind chill this one's looking to be pretty chilly. I wonder if all those young guys will do without the sleeves this time around?

Fishing/boat shows - a thing of the past?
I haven't been to any BIGTIME shows since I was a kid. However, our little town (5,000 pop.) tries to have an outdoor show each year and charges around $10 to get in. I went one year (my buddy footed the bill) and was really let down. I was sorry that he wasted his money. I really have a problem paying to get in one of these. Like Raincloud said, the vendors are paying big bucks to advertise there and we are potential customers. That's like charging people money to get into Wal-mart. I'm with RW. I'll go to the BPS classic and get in for "free". At least I'll take something home when I pay to be there. :

taking young children fishing
That's the sweetest / funniest thing I've read all day! X2 Warmer, I have a 9 year old who's been fishing with me since she was 2 or 3. I still have her first sunfish in the freezer (I don't know what I'm going to do with it, but I keep it). I have to agree with RW that your posts have lightened up my day as well. Everyone's advice is dead on. BTW- Welcome TNbassmom!! Here's a pic of me and my daughter from '05. This is her biggest bass yet.

Official BR.com Movie Review thread
We were in the Blockbuster club as well, but the second rate hike prompted us to drop out. Besides, during the school year, we're not watching as many movies anyhow. Over the weekend we watched the 2005 movie "Frequency" with Dennis Quaid. I expected a very average movie but was remarkably surprised at how good it was. It seemed well-written and the plot twisted a bit to keep you in it. I'd highly recommend this movie and give it a .

stop signs and stoplights optional?
> This is a really big pet peeve of mine. I could have posted this in the "What grinds my gears" column, but I didn't think of it then. Man, the people in my community are REALLY bad at not stopping at stop signs. I've always wanted to just pull out and t-bone one of them one of these days. They are especially bad at running them in our Wal-mart parking lot. I just feel that it is our duty as responsible citizens to stop at them. If we all ran them, we'd have chaos and accidents everywhere. What I don't understand is that people seem to have no problem with running a stop sign, but they will sit at a red light even though there's no traffic coming there way? What gives? They're both inanimate objects (to borrow Mike's term). I guess they think that someone might notice them running a red light. Whether or not they stop at the sign is harder to prove, I guess.

Celebrity sightings
Just after high school, while working in the Sports/Auto department at K-mart, I ran into Ron Morris (former Chicago Bears RB) there. He had brought the family mini-van in to get a luggage carrier replaced (that he purchased at a K-mart in Chi-town). Not realizing it at the time, he was from Cooper (only about 20 miles away). He was very polite and let us take pictures and signed autographs. The other encounter was with country comedian Jerry Clower. We saw him in Lubbock while chaperoning some kids at the Texas FFA convention (we skipped out on the third night to go see him instead). We got to go backstage and get pictures and autographs with him. The really special part was getting to sit and visit with him for about 15 minutes in the hotel lobby the next morning. He was as genuine as he seemed to be on stage. He actually originally got a BS degree in Ag Education and was selling fertilizer of all things. His clients thought his stories were extremely funny and suggested that he become a comedian. Funny man. . . he will be missed.

Cowboys sent packing!
if sleeping with jessica simpson and carrie underwood make you a **** then i wanna sign up ;D "Slept with these women". I think it's wrong to assume this, although it might be likely (or fun to dream about from our standpoint). Was I glad the 'Boy's lost? Sure, it will be much easier for the Pack to win at home. I do, however feel bad for Romo and all the crap he's going to have to put up with. I think, considering his past with these women, that he made a poor decision to go on the Mexico trip. He should have seen it coming and stayed home. Not being a cowboy fan, I will however give them props for a great season. They have alot of talent, and Romo will get better with experience. I DO however think that much of Dallas' and Green Bay's success this year is due to the fact that the rest of the NFC is sub-par. As other teams make trades and sign new players, they will improve. I have to agree with Roadwarrior. It's all been pretty exciting, and will continue to be to the end.

Things Shaky at Work
Sometimes that's the hardest thing to do but it's always the right decision. I'll keep ya in my prayers buddy X2- On my last teaching job, I was asked to resign, not because of job performance, but because of politics. At the onset, I was reeling, wondering why God had moved us three hours and I had only taught there for a year. Very shortly, I had the opportunity to move to the school I'm now at and become a part of a ministry part-time (while living in the same town). I've been here for 7 years and couldn't be happier. God has a plan, Dom! Perhaps it's to use you in a new location (maybe even Fla, Ga, Tx, etc. ) Hang in there and keep on keepin' on!!!

2007 a year in Review
I'd be happy with just ONE of those 10's. Over the past few years, I always start out with every intention of keeping a log and recording bass weights like that, but after a few entries I stop. As much as I would like to be a fine recordkeeper/logkeeper, I think I'll just try and fish more this year. When I catch that first "10", then maybe I'll be motivated to keep some more records. You 'da man Catt!! Those are some fine accomplishments.
