The Tail Kicking is ON!
I thought i was the only one! If the wind blows hard enough my direct tv will go out and if it thunderstorms hard enough even the basic news channels like 4 5 8 or 11 go out too. I miss cable, it never failed me. Cable failed me lots of times, not to mention the cruddy fuzzy reception on local channels all the time. Also in the 20 or so years we had cable, it seemed that certain channels were out quite often, if not the whole service for at least 30 minutes or more a month (maybe just my personal experience with sorry companies). Since getting Direct TV 7 years ago, I haven't had near as many problems as with cable. We might lose signal for just a few minutes as a strong downpour approaches from the South, but the signal returns very quickly. Maybe it has something to do with our location, but I'll never go back to cable.

dallas vs gb
I thought the game was good, although the officiating seemed to be "a little" one sided. . . Huhummmm! :-X I hope Brett Favre is able to be back in ten days. I would like him to be able to continue to keep his iron man streak alive until he retires.

What to get the wives?
Congratulations, Muddy. That's great to hear. To add to what many of you have said: If you will just LISTEN, she'll tell you what she wants. My wife begins to hint around as early as September. I just have to open my ears and make mental notes. Spa certificates are good. Personal bath and body items are good, perhaps put together in a basket with a favorite music CD, some candies, perfume, etc. Another good idea would be to make a coupon book. Inside make coupons like a "girl's night out/I'll keep the kids", "I'll cook dinner", "I'll do the laundry, cleaning, etc.", "full reign of the TV remote", etc. coupons. DO be prepared to follow through with these coupons in the future, otherwise this is a worthless gift. I think that Russ nailed it, personal is best. Even the lowest price gift can be a hit if the presentation and gift are made personal and from the heart.

thursday night : green bay vs cowboys
NFL network knows what they're doing. After 1,000's of disgruntled football fan cable consumers fuss at the cable companies about it, cable companies will be adding NFL network to their line-ups, meaning money in the NFL network's pocket. If the cable networks don't budge, they'll lose even more business to Direct TV or Dish. We got rid of cable over 7 years ago and haven't blinked an eye since. BTW Mattfly and other DFW area members- I heard on Channel 8 this morning that channel 27 would show it locally. As for others in the country with cable I guess you are out of luck.

thursday night : green bay vs cowboys
Hey Tipp, Not to jack the thread, but are you trying to stay out of the bars? Not that that's a bad move or anything. From some of your posts it seems that some of your "bar buddies" were not good influences on you anyway. Back to the thread, I'm pulling for the Packers. Green Bay 38, Dallas 35.

uh-oh-new pics added
Probably magnified through the water. Although I agree, if I saw that thing next to me, I'd probably do the poo-poo-pee-doo as well.

Matt, Even channel 21 or 27 won't cover it locally? Usually they do when the games are on ESPN.

Black Friday. Why not tackle stores????
BPS and Cabela's had a few hour sale on Friday morning, although I was out of town and couldn't be there. However, they didn't include much tackle in them. I guess their version is their "Classic" sale in the spring.

ESPN College Football Message Boards
Been there, done that. I do still frequent the Aggie board sometimes. It used to be full of very explicite profanity, but of late has gotten better. Apparently a filter will read the cuss words and delete the posts. Now on occasion someone will misspell the words or hyphenate them to get them in, although the language is not near as explicit as it used to be. AND yes, people there do tend to be VERY hateful to one another. I sure wouldn't want my daughter reading the posts. >

Texas Chokes Again.
Woo-hoo!! Gig'em Ags! And our coach resigned too. If Fran had only played with that kind of fire all season, maybe he wouldn't have had to resign. Maybe we can hire the RIGHT coach this time. Can't wait to see who.

MIZZOU-RAH! TIGERS! #1
I was very impressed with their win last night versus the Jayhawks. I knew they had an explosive offense, but I thought that KU's defense would be more of a match for them. OU better watch out next weekend. There just might be a new sheriff in town.

Here's the funny!
Nick Saban is Alabama's head football coach. I'm with Hookem down. I get that the Mississippi State guy is in the background, and that this looks like Saban, but there's some other hidden joke here besides the funny picture. Fill us in, Burley.

16-0 and 0-16
I don't know about lifting the Dolphins' spirits, but I'm sure Ricky Williams will be pretty high before long. Give him time. I bet he can't stay off the stuff.

A Tasty Treat
Make a flour mixture with some salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Pound it into the steak with a meat tenderizer several times over. Dip in egg, reflour, and fry in a 1/2 inch or so layer of Crisco. Save back some of the grease, put in flour and milk to make gravy. Nothing better than fried deer steak and cream gravy. . . slap your pappy good!

Men and their toyz
Raul, You crack me up! ;D It's funny. My wife did the same thing with my daughter. First an easy bake oven, then a lite brite. My wife never had those as a girl. However, I've been known to buy her some of my favorite things, too.

I need to spend $$
Don't think I haven't thought of doing that...or at least passing it along. Might use it to get something for the wife for Christmas. Or some more Under Armour for me. Hey, I got one in the mail today for $10 off any purchase (no minimum). I think it says something like "our gift to you for all your support over the years". I can't think of a time that I've actually spent any money of my own there. I did use a $25 gift card there once. Go figure! :-? But, hey. It'll buy me a couple of packs of worms or something.

Oklahoma Upset
Needless to say, college FB has been fun this year!! I agree that it is no cakewalk for OU to be in the championship game. Both the Texas/A&M game and the OSU/OU game start at the same time on Friday. A Texas loss and an OU loss would knot the teams in a three-way tie for 1st in the South. I'm not sure how it works now, but I think OU would win the tiebreaker over Texas, Texas over OSU, and OSU over OU. Gee, I don't know how you'd work that out. Given the status of both games as rivalrys (and that the Aggies play at home), I think all teams involved will be wanting to win. It should be interesting to the last tick of the clock. I think that KU takes the home advantage by playing in Kansas City and will come away with a win. But then again, who knows? It's all what makes college FB special. Gigem' Ags!!

Holiday season safety!
Funny Russ. Exactly how far across is it, and how long does it take to drive across? Good advice, Leo!! I wish I could have learned that lesson as a teen. Only by the grace of God did I not get killed driving home lots of times. Parents, Talk to your teens about drinking and driving. I was always too afraid to call my parents because I knew they REALLY didn't want me drinking. I'm not advocating that you make drinking OK, but let them know that their safety comes first and that they CAN call you. -Fisher (quote box repaired-LBH)

American Ingenuity? RANT
Having taught vocational agriculture (now called career and technology education) for the first 9 years of my teaching career, I know where you are coming from. Here in Texas, our state administrators are stressing "college academics" to all students. It's "test scores, test scores, test scores. . ." all the time. People have got to realize that all students are not going to go to college and that we need members of the work force at every level. In our part of the state, it seems that high schools and communities have stressed showing animals (traveling around the state with 10 or so kids) than actually teaching the other 100 "vocational" skills. They are left back in the classroom with a substitute teacher and a book. There are still some Ag departments that focus more on teaching shop skills, etc. to the kids, but they are few and far between. This is one reason I got out of Ag teaching. Ronnie, thanks for sharing your photos. God bless you for being a part of those kids' lives. Fortunately, I came from a family who did almost everything ourselves, unless we just didn't have the tools or facilities to do it. That, and the fact that my grandparents had a dairy farm, led me to become involved in Ag classes and the FFA. Now, I do almost all the work to our vehicles and our house. Kids, stick your neck out and take some vocational/technical courses in high school. You will find that they will come in handy later in life and just might save you some $$$ on repairs along the way. Parents, if you possess the mechanical skills, pass them on to your children. You will be doing them a service and spending quality time together. And, like fishing, be patient with them. Don't hold them to your own high standards until their skills have developed.

The Unit
Dang!! I knew better than to read this, but I couldn't resist. We just finished season 2 on DVD and now we're stuck until re-runs start. I've been hestitant to start in the middle. I love the show, so some of you "Unit" guys keep me informed when the show will start over again. (or the DVD release is available).

Beowulf
I'm with you. I didn't see 300, but I think alot of moviemakers go overboard with the computer graphics and animation to the point that the movies don't even look real. That's the first thing I noticed about Beowulf and it turned me off very quickly. I agree that the story is good. Maybe I'll catch it on DVD.
