  1. Been drinking it for years. Started in college while working asa farm hand on the university farm. After becoming an Ag teacher, I drank it with sugar until the ants began to attack the sugar supply one year. I weened myself back to black and drank it black until a year or so ago. I'll add a little sugar every now and then. I'm not much for Starbuck's though. I remember the first time I ever went into one of those; it took me fifteen minutes to look at the menu. I couldn't find "black" plain coffee. I finally had to ask, and the clerk told me, "Oh, you want a jumbo grande latte blaquee, " or something fancy like that. I about fainted when he asked for four bucks for that large black coffee. I knew then that I'd stick to the donut shop.
  2. Congrats to those kids. I was really pulling for the kids from TX, but they were out-played today. Either way, I'll pull for them tomorrow versus the Japanese. Go USA!!
  3. While we're on the subject: - Leave gates the way you find them (that's not always shut; sometimes livestock have to move from pasture to pasture to get water. - Stay on established roads (trails) or edges of fields if no road is visible. - JF offered some good advice by offering to help out (with farm chores, working cattle, fence repair as mentioned, etc.) - In addition to offering some drinks or other gift, perhaps sharing some of the (cleaned) catch if you are allowed to keep some catfish of crappie.
  4. Well, the truth comes out.
  5. . . . and you're still sain. That's amazing!!
  6. I think I stepped into the third little guy out in the yard the other day!! ;D Oh, that reminds me of a good one: Then there was the hillbilly who thought that a bar stool was something that Davey Crockett stepped in.
  7. Excellent point Paparock! Another analogy is if you were violating a cardinal rule of safety (in a sport, on the job, etc.) and break a bone, it will soon heal back to normal. Needless to say the recovery process might be painful. There are still consequences to our actions (breaking that safety rule). Even though things can be made right, those consequences can be painful, too.
  8. Two words: Marine Goop (not just Goop, but get the Marine kind) Cut out some aluminum flashing (I've even used a coke can). After cleaning and sanding the area around the hole, apply the goop to the aluminum and apply. Spread the goop thoroughly over and beyond the patch. As far as the cracks, just run a bead along them and lightly spread the goop to cover 1/2 inch or so. This may not be the prettiest fix, but I used to have an old water scamp just like the one your talking about. I tried epoxy, fiberglass, roof cement, etc. and never had the success of the marine goop. I had one hole in the front of my boat that I gooped a quarter over. For 10 years that quarter stayed in place (I've since given the boat away). Recently I even repaired a small hole in the bottom of my 12 foot jon boat and it's held up VERY well. Hope this helps. -Fisher <><
  9. Ditto!!! Can't wait to see your beautiful mug back on the board! ;D Seriously, may God provide you with healing and a speedy recovery. I'll keep you in my prayers. God bless, Fisher
  10. Maltese, you took my comments. Happy Birthday, Bucket!! I know how much the bike means to you. Enjoy it!! -Fisher <><
  11. Thanks, it does a little. But give them time. I'm sure after this last stamp increase they'll be building a new brick one soon.
  12. Thanks for sharing with us. I am flattered that you think enough of us to pour out your heart to us. I can't imagine losing a child. You are right. We need to tell each and every one of our loved ones how we feel every chance we get. You and you're friends are in my prayers. God bless, Fisher<><
  13. FYI, Here's a link to the LLWS website with schedules, standings, etc. www.littleleague.org
  14. Well Raul, I have to agree with you on the Daiwa reels. Back in the day, that was the number one returned reel when I worked in the sporting goods business. Someone mentioned the flying lure. Although I can't testify to much success, my wife caught a bass on her first cast using it. As far as the grass frog is concerned, I've caught many a bass on it. I think I would agree with alot of you in that Shakespeare baitcasters are pieces. I don't know of a particular bait that would be junk except for some that I just can't catch fish on (maybe my own fault). I have to admit that most of my "worst ever" comes from the bargain bin. I'm a sucker for clearance merchandise and it usually stays in a WM sack in my shed after going un-used.
  15. Hey Dom, That's a great story about your dad. I can't agree more that the role of a father is so important in the development of a child. I think much of the downfall of our country's youth could be prevented if more fathers would step up to the plate and "be the dad". This post should serve as encouragement to all the dad's on the forum to strive to be the best dad we can be. Frog, thanks for sharing these quotes with us. They are inspiring. God bless, Fisher
  16. Yes, KW, I had the opportunity to watch the girls play the other night and was really impressed. I've always wondered how good Roger Clemens would be if he had to throw underhanded?
  17. ??? Oooooooookay. :-?
  18. This time of year I really enjoy watching the LLWS. This is baseball in it's purest element. These guys play with heart. I enjoy watching them play just about as much if not more than the pro's. I'm pulling for my team from Lubbock, Texas (Southwest regional champs). Anyone else have their favorites? -Fisher
  19. Hey Tipp, Good to hear from you. I'm glad to hear that you are starting your school. On the food issue, I saw a microwave for $19.95 the other day at Wal-mart, and my wife and I used to cook alot in an electric skillet when we first got married (in college). We also cooked in a small toaster oven with lots of success. You can also find some nice small appliances/dishes/etc. at garage sales for really cheap if you look. On the gun issue, be careful and consider these things: 1. If you are not familiar with handguns, you need to go to a concealed weapons class for training before you purchase one. I'm sorry to say, but a gun in the hand of an un-trained individual may prove dangerous. Also, I'm not sure about the laws there, but taking a course would prove to benefit you legally (especially if you ever had to use it in self-defense). 2. Research before you buy. Be sure to put plenty of research and thought into this before selecting a firearm. I'm sure there are lots of BR buddies who can help you in the process, as well as the concealed weapons instructor. I know there have already been several posts regarding purchasing handguns. 3. Buy from a reputable dealer, not off the street. Buying a used handgun can sometimes lead to trouble, especially if it is stolen. If you are buying a used firearm, make sure to check with local authorities regarding the serial number and track its history. 4. THINK about this decision. Will you ever have small children visiting your home? Will you be having parties at the house where your friends consume alcohol, etc.? Don't make a rash decision that you will regret in the future. Don't get me wrong. I am not anti-gun and even own several firearms. I just want what's best for you. A good set of door locks/deadbolts might prove just as effective. Also consider "Beware of Dog" signs, motion lighting, etc. as preventative measures as well. Stay safe. God bless, Fisher<><
  20. John, Russ is right. Try to keep a balance. Don't let the studies get to you. Take a break every now and then, but don't let the breaks, parties, etc. get in the way. It sounds like you've got a good head on your shoulders. Good luck to you and God bless! -Fisher P.S. Do you have a major yet?
  21. Great pics! Unfortunately, pic's of all my fish over 5 pounds (if I had pic's of all of them) wouldn't take that long to display them. Can't wait to see your first 15 pounder!! -Fisher
  22. While we're bashing the postal service, the thing that bugs me the most is that they keep going up on postage stamps claiming they're losing money. Well, don't pay multi-million dollars to cycling teams, etc. for advertising AND why does every little podunt town in America have to have an immaculate brick building with a landscaped lawn out in front of it? I'm sure they could work out of a metal building for a LOT cheaper. OK, I'm through venting. -Fisher
  23. Yes, this is a VERY interesting instrument. A friend of mine showed me some videos of these. It really sounds like a three piece band played by one artist. I, too, feel it would be hard to master, but then again, I'm not very good with my guitar either. :-[
  24. Funny Mike!!! Very funny!! What? No educational "pep talk" this time?
  25. Hey mud man! I can understand the need to get away. We all need to do this in real life sometimes. I completely wish you well and God's grace upon you while you take a break. I look forward to your return when you are again open-minded and refreshed. God bless, Fisher<><
