  1. I've been looking forward to it for sometime now. The first episodes are always slow, though. I hated to see Phil staying on the dock. Oops, I didn't mean to ruin it for the Tivo crowd.
  2. Don't bet on it. x2 The education will be better for the most part, you will get the occasional prof who is "burnt". But there will be plenty of people screwing around because mommy and daddy have the money and will pay for whatever when they mess up. College is not what you think. And someone of your intelligence will figure it out quick. A lot of it is still a joke and it is a business more than anything. X3 Sometimes it's just an endurance contest. : It's great to hear from you Aaron. It's hard to believe that this school year is almost over (six and a half weeks to go for us). I'm sure that you will do well in college, but like others have said, there are still alot of clowns around. You'll have to deal with them for the first couple of years, but by your junior year they have been weeded out for the most part. As I told Hookemdown, it's all about balance. If you choose to party, do it responsibly and in moderation. Activities are important, but don't let them overrun your schedule. Keep your class schedule light at first and then ease into it as you get used to them. And yes, Sam is very right. It is much easier to get into than out. Keep us posted as how to how things develop. God bless, Fisher
  3. I think this change has been effect for a week or more, but it really messed with my head this morning. ESPN has moved the little "on-deck" ticker thingy from the right side of the screen to the left side AND, to top that off, it scrolls from the top to the bottom now. Funny how subtle changes like that affect your enjoyment of a program!
  4. OK guys. I have tildy ***. :-[ Will someone please inform me how to make one?
  5. You have your memories of the redheaded girl (wasn't that you). Perhaps some comments made afterwards prompted the deletion. :-/ I think the whole concept of lusting after college cheerleaders within a post about young girls jumping rope was a bit creepy.
  6. A couple of years ago (of course the home construction market was booming then) I tried to get some concrete contractors to come by my house and estimate some driveway re-grading (small, but labor intensive job). After calling four or five different contractors, only one returned my call. After promising he'd be by the next day, he finally showed up a week later. Pretty much by that time, I'd given up and taken matters into my own hands. You'd think in this tough economy, folks would want to earn your business. I guess not.
  7. It's a selfish sign of the times. :'(
  8. My mother-in-law and wife's sister watch her religiously. Believe me, we should send our terror suspects in a little room with her on 24/7. They'd crack in no time. :
  9. Congratulations, Hookemdown! I attended college on a partial scholarship that paid about 1/2 of my tuition and was so grateful. On a serious note, clubs and activities will look great on resumes, but it's all about balance. Know your limits (with the partying as well) and adjust according to your class load. The spring of my Sr. year in college I ran across an old HS buddy. We graduated HS the same year and here he was starting over as a sophomore. He had been kicked out of another "party university" due to academic probation and a drinking problem. Fortunately he had gotten clean attending AA meetings and seemed to be on the right track (but he was three years behind). Remember, school first, everything else second (except fishing maybe) !!
  10. I don't think there's anything wrong with the hook. As long as the fluke is t-rigged, she shouldn't get hooked. I first let my daughter fish with small spinnerbaits. I think they need to learn to hook one up as soon as possible. That's what will get THEM hooked! Wagn- Perhaps after a few trips you could install a smaller (weedless) hook on there (if you watch him closely).
  11. I can't wait to hear it. You guys stay safe! Wish I was there. -Fisher
  12. Haven't fished for them in some time, but, back in the day, a good rig to use trolling was a hellbender with the back hook taken out. Here, attach a 2-4 ft. leader line with a white bucktail jig. We used to pull lots out of Lake Livingston when I was a kid using this rig. Also, when finding schooling sand bass (whites), throw a heavy jig/spoon across the feeding school and let it sink below. Often, the bigger fish stay below the school waiting for an injured shad to float down to them. You are in for a treat, for they can pull like a horse.
  13. Raul, Obviously, if you're still giving into the bait monkey, then the vet business is not too bad there. Seriously, has your business suffered any at all? What about the local economy in Mexico?
  14. Congrats, brother!! What a blessing it is to have a child! My wife and I went through two miscarriages before our daughter was born. Since she was born, my wife had to have a hystorectimy, so she is our one and only (unless we are able to adopt some day). I will remember you in our prayers over the following months. Hopefully, they have put your wife on progesterone and she's taking good pre-natal vitamins. That was the course of action (along with alot of prayer) for our daughter prior to birth. Keep us updated as to her condition!! God bless, Fisher
  15. I know this legislation is well-meaning, but what if someone steals my ammo while I'm out of town and commits the crime before I can report it? Are these people naive enough to believe that all criminals buy their ammo at a retailer?
  16. During "Big Bass Season" (i.e. pre/post spawn) I'd prefer to be alone or if I'm fishing with someone else, have limited conversation. Like many of you, I get into a "zone" and don't want to be bothered, especially after a short strike or seeing the water boil. Other times of the year, conversation and company are great things. I have, however, been fishing with a few chatterboxes with whom I wished came with a "mute" button. ;D
  17. My wife just started a facebook page. She's been on it non-stop the past few nights. It's like a double-standard around my home. When I spend more than 30 minutes on here, she asks me why I'm not spending time with her. However, it seems OK with her to sit on the computer all night. : After 17 years of marriage, I've given up figuring her out. :-/
  18. I think you and I are thinking the same thing, Grimlin. What if you stack the crackers and eat them as one? Does that count?
  19. No worries. I'm still grounded. BTW- I didn't take it wrong at all. I wish I had just a partial chance at some of those Cali-sized monsters.
  20. Unlike you, Fourbizz, I don't catch double digits each outing. That's the biggest I've caught in two or three years, so I thought it was worthy enough to replace my old avatar pic. . . and I DID have a pretty roughed up thumb about mid-ways down, too! 8-) And Tony, Yes, I felt the same way when I first came around here, always at home. I guess I frequent the "Everything Else" section more, too. It's a great place to have some random friendly discussions about nothing in particular.
  21. Well, neither one of mine are on that list. I didn't need to spend any money anyway. Hidden blessing.
  22. I've never had the pleasure. There's a store near here (Lewisville, Tx) and one on the way to Ark. (Texarkana). I've always wanted to stop in, but the family has been with me each time. They don't seem to see the importance of wondering aimlessly around in a tackle store. : I wonder if any of the stores are offering big clearance discounts or will they ship all their stuff out to other retailers?

  24. As I sat on the computer the other night, my wife and I were discussing the fact that there are now over 20,000 members here. I remarked about being around to see the first 1,000. With such a milestone, what is one of the most memorable topics/posts that has been posted on bassresource.com? Perhaps it is something funny, sad, heart-warming, etc. I definitely think the funniest is Muddy's trolling motor lesson followed by Frogtog's cycling squirrel. Anyone else care to share theirs? (remember no "hot-button" topics are allowed)
  25. If I recall, it was deleted within a short time after getting out of hand. Glenn's right. Just the mere mention of "bailouts" and "big-business" makes my blood boil. Not too much productive has come out of any of those threads lately.
