  1. My lews lfs will make a decent cast with a weightless senko on a medium heavy rod, with the weights you're looking to use I think you'd be fine with any decent baitcaster.
  2. That's why they make weedless frogs ?
  3. I know, I'm awful, but there were a few years I didn't buy a fishing license
  4. I've got to fry up a mess of bluegill this year! I haven't had fresh caught fish for years! My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
  5. It should work really well in my clear water pits, I'm definitely going to pick up a couple.
  6. So your working with the bait monkey now huh???
  7. I've got a couple, but I don't think I've ever used them. One was my dad's, another I think I've had since I was a teenager.
  8. Seems like the prices keep going up but the efforts to make Indiana a quality fishery stays the same. I don't think size or possession limits have changed since I remember reading about them when I was a kid, back when you got a paper license and the guy at the baitshop gave you a copy of the regulations.
  9. There is some kind of white looking carp in a strip pit I fish, the thing just glows in the clear water, and it looks like a freakin' whale just lazing around!
  10. If Indiana still offered the lifetime, I would have definitely bought it. Of course there's always the chance you'll get bored with fishing, or move out of state. Those are things you should consider before dropping a few hundred dollars.
  11. Welcome to the forums! I caught my pb on a pflueger spincast. I've since retired it, although my daughter and wife use it occasionally, I bought a nicer spinning reel and baitcaster that I enjoy using. I used several cheaper ones that wouldn't last a whole summer, those had a lot of issues.
  12. Wow, those are good prices, I bought some cylinder drop shot weights from a tackle shop for $8! I can buy from them for $2.50!!!
  13. I had the same experience with that color.
  14. Wow, I haven't had that misfortune, but I can definitely see and feel a difference in the cork between a $30 rod and a $100 rod.
  15. That is beautiful work! I'm leaving the rod building forum now, forever! I can't take up any new hobbies!
  16. I thought the point of backing for braid was to prevent the line from slipping on the spool. I do it to save money though, cause I'm a cheapskate.
  17. Very well could be to much rod. You get birds nest when the spool goes faster than the line coming off of it, so I'm going to guess your heavy action rod wasn't loading up properly, leading to short casts and the lure just kinda lobbing out there. Hopefully you'll have an easier time with a lighter rod.
  18. I used a red shad senko to catch my first Texas rig bass, in fact I went through the whole pack of them and that includes rigging them backwards and biting a little bit off the end.
  19. That sucks. Sorry for all the crap luck you've been having but good luck on the next one! I do good with the Ned rig, 1.5 square bills, small cranks, and drop shoting. I've done best on the ned rig with the big TRD, seemed to catch a better quality fish.
  20. Oh man, wind sucks. Glad you're not giving up on it, maybe practice at a lake you know to avoid any added frustration. You'll get it, what kind of baitcaster are you using?
  21. A weightless senko Texas rigged is killer all the time. That shimmy and shake makes me want to bite it!
  22. Well that really sucks about the rods, I would seriously call Berkley about it, I think those have a 1 year warranty. I was using mine the other day, zipping them out there with a roll cast (which is seriously the easiest way to cast just starting out) then I moved to the other side of the pond and it was one over run after another, then I realized I was casting into the wind! Do you have braid on it? If so you should be able to hear the braid when it starts slowing down, then just thumb that spool, don't worry about a no splash landing right now, get the basics down then worry about improving the small details.
  23. Don't give up on it! It will work, but your going to have to keep practicing. Go cast in the back yard with a 1/4 ounce weight or somewhere there's not a bunch of trees. Don't muscle it, just smooth and clean is what you want. The rod cracking, that's crazy. I'd be calling Berkley about a faulty product if it's happened twice! Good luck, just don't give up!
  24. I use a 5/0 EWG for my swimbaits.
  25. I typically run a 4'-6' leader, I use 8 pound Pline copolymer.
