Maryland's Who's who!
Deep Creek is either great or the Dead Sea never inbetween for me. Patterns change there so often that is is hard to stay on top of them. That being said my best lures for Deep Creek are green pumkin baby brush hogs and finesse jigs, flukes, chart. cranks if the water is murky and a LC Slender pointer 97mr in ghost minnow for the fall. Last year poppers worked for about the first 1/2 hour of light then shad colored worms during the day but that was in September. Allen

Mixed message on bait quality
Smithwick Rogue in chrome and still made. Made me think on that one. The new baits are not the same as the old ones just like wiggle warts. The Rogue KVD used was like 20 years old. Allen

Color of Crawfish in March
I fish the Potomac both Upper and Tidal and can tell you I use 4 jig colors: Solid black Green Pumkin Brown Shadish (swimming jig) These work for me everywhere and if I want to change or contrast the color I just use a different trailer color. Do not overthink it and make it out to be more than it is. Allen

Last resort to save a day?
Discontinued black Berkley 3" drop shot worm on a DS rig or sliderhead. This is a dink magnet but a fish is a fish. Allen

Lucky Craft Advantage?
Have to add that since Rick Clinn is no longer with BPS they will probabley but the baits with his picture on the package on sale. They sell these every year for like $10 at the spring event so stock up then. If I could own only one LC crank it would be a RC 1.5 in Copper Perch. Allen

Lucky Craft Advantage?
The RC 1.5 is the best shallow crankbait made IMO. Some of the deep divers work but I catch just as many if not more fish on lower priced baits. I have 3 lure retrievers so I have only lost one LC crank ever. Allen

Maryland's Who's who!
Between work and college I am swamped with stuff that is due next week. I am setting aside a couple hours tonight for tackle organization. Allen

Swim jig ???
To me a swim jig is just a bladeless spinnerbait. Just swim as the name implies the jig anywhere you normally fish a spinnerbait. Swim jigs work some for me in spring but fall is when the rock! As for rods anything MH with 10-20lb line works for me. One thing I plan on trying this year as a trailer is a small paddletail like the 3.5" RI dipper. Last spring I wrecked fish on a swimming fluke with a weighted hook so this year I plan on combining it with a swim jig. Allen

Best Jig Trailer?
This is the best advice you could receive. The only thing I could add is to use jigs in the same color that you use for soft plastics. Confidence always helps so just find some jigs in your favorite soft plastic color and you are off to a good start. Allen

Heeeeeeeee's back...
My favorite was the website he had going All the forum posts and replies were by him. I did feel bad for the guy when he first started and sent him about $20 worth of baits. Allen

What is your favorite lure or softplastic that they no longer make?
Kangaroo grub is the top of my list for soft plastics and Rapala Fat Rap in CW for hard baits. Berkley kills me with discontinuing baits that work well; fat dover, drop shot worm and the 3" power hawg. If anyone has any of these they want to trade let me know as I may have something you are looking for. Allen

Spinnerbait
For me 45 degrees seems to be the magic number when they will run down a bait. Now this varies depending on conditions but it works as a general rule of thumb. Allen

New Rick Clunn crankbait
What? BPS canned Clunn? If they quit making the LC RC 1.5 I will have to burn down at least one store. Allen

Clear water swim jig questions
Don't make it more complicated than it is. A swim jig is just a bladeless spinnerbait so use whatever colors you feel confident in. Most of my swim jigs are white or shad colored to match the forage. Allen

Anybody ever get on a shallow bite during winter?
One March day about 3 years ago I was pre-fishing for a club tournament. Water was at best 40 degrees so I was using hair jigs and small tubes with no luck. Well I had a new crankbait rod I wanted to try out so with no action I figuered I would get some casting practice in with it. I tied on a RC 1.5 to judge action, etc of the rod and started casting. The very first cast I boated a SM out of less the 2' of water. Every other cast after that was about the same. Now I didn't boat any big fish but to catch like 25 keepers in 5 hours prefishing March is pretty impressive. Of course a cold front came in that night dropping the temp a few degrees and killing what I thought was an easy victory. Allen

Raystown Lake in March
James creek is where everyone says to fish. I only fished there twice last year and never really found a good pattern. The fish I caught were all over the lake and the only thing I can add of value is the pattern definately changes if the water is moving. Allen

Hand tying Jigs question
It is easiest to just put the skirt on with the rubber collar then wire tie in front of the skirt. Below is an example of the wire pliers I use and the wire you use is up to you. The green tomato stake wire from Wal-Mart works as does any other wire close to 22 guage it is just a matter of personal preference. Spinnerbait blades
Depends on what you are trying to accomplish? Most factory 3/8oz baits will have a 3.5 or 4 front willow and 4.5 rear. The 1/2oz will be 4 and 5 for blade sizes. The baits I make I like smaller blades and will use 3.5 and 4 willows on both sizes. Around here we fish a lot of clear water and there are a lot of SM. Big blades rarely work unless it is the fall but compact baits seem to work. Let me know if you can use some 3/8oz hidden weight heads as I have some built on 1/4oz super stainless frames I could trade. Allen

Where to melt?
I use a metal baking pan under the lead melter so I do not have to worry about accidently burning the wood. Allen
-
Weed Guard Question
I do the same thing and can tell you I cannot notice any smell. The gel dries quick and does not wick the weedguard like the thin krazy or super glues. Allen

Maryland's Who's who!
March is the best time for both unless the river is flooded. If the river is flooded the fishing gets better at the other place. BTW you guys missed some great deals at the Ag show in Boonsboro. I got 3 packs of Yamamoto flappin hogs for $2 Allen I have seen your tackle hoarding epidemic. ;D You just save those Flappin' Hogs for me. LOL Great find!! Just because I have one or two baits more than most people does not mean I have a problem. :-? Let me know if you want some of the LC slender pointers I picked up like 20 spares recently. Allen

Maryland's Who's who!
The early bird is on again this year late in Feb but there is no way I am fishing it. Four Locks is the worst place to fish! The only fish caught the guys run all the way upriver past Hancock. Allen
