Buzzbait Trailers
I like either the zoom split tail or zoom z craw.

Swimming worm question
speed worms work really well on a swing head style hook as well. just sayin.

Buzz Baits : Toad vs. Skirt ?
I remove at least half the skirt and add a plastic trailer, z craw's are good, also like the plain old split tail spinner bait trailer.

Favorite H20 express lure from Academy?
That's an H2O square bill in the face of the bass on my avatar. I think the color was hickory shad.

Swimbait vs swimming worm?
I usually have both tied on this time of year. the thicker the cover the more likely i am to use a swim jig. the sparser cover gets the speed worm. speed worm makes for a killer follow up bait to a buzzbait.

How would you replace these hooks?
another vote for a split ring and a feather on the back hook.

Best advice to give newer guys
Two pieces of advice. 1.) If you want to be good at it, practice. Even when you can't fish you can pitch around the yard. Still do it all the time. My neighbors think i'm nuts. But, if you can pitch a jig into a rose bush and finesse it through the branches, then you can do it under water. Soon you'll get use to how it feels to crawl the jig over a branch, it feels the same underwater. you'll begin to trust what your feeling and when it doesn't feel right, set the hook! been bass fishing for 50 years and can still tell if i'm outa practice. 2.) Don't be in a hurry to move your bait out of the cover. So many times I see someone new to fishing finally make a good cast, then rip it out of the cover. I'm saying "what's your hurry". Give the bass a second to check it out. Most folks are fishing too fast. The pros look like they're fishing fast, but a lot of times, they're covering water but fishing the bait slow.

Wooly Buggers, poppers, and bunny leaches are my most used flies.

Arkie jigs?
mono will work fine. I'd go at least 15lb for pitching jigs into the bushes probably 20. or buy lots of jigs and retie often.

Drag washers.
Man your old shimano looks way better than mine. That's show room new.

Bass hitting top water lures
Agree. One of the things I like about buzzbaits is either everything wants to eat it or nothing, and you'll know pretty quickly. Throw a buzzbait over the top of that submerged grass and it'll get bit.

Drag washers.
I have a couple of the old greenies and replaced the drag washers a couple years ago with carbontex. Piece of cake to replace and fairly cheap. Smooth as silk now. Love the old curados.

Question, who in Arkansas made Stu Apte casting rods
Denali rods are made in Mountain Home, Arkansas. You might check with them-they make good rods.

Help me get fishing decriminalized on my local lake
our city, in cooperation with game and fish, encourages fishing on city lakes. holds fishing derbies for inner-city kids. i think bass pro or maybe walmart gets involved and gives away free kids rods and reels. there is a real shortage of places for kids to fish from the bank, and a need to get more youth into the sport. there's your answer for the city leaders, they come across looking good to the naysayers.

Do You Ever Wet Wade?
do it all summer long. korkers are the answer for foot ware.

Why wait until spring?
unless you live in duck hunting land and all the shops are full of duck boats.

Rod or reel what is more important?
I always use both.

White flipping jigs...
Steve Kennedy comes to mind, fishing a white jig and winning a lot of $. I use a white flipping jig a lot, with a white zoom super chunk trailer. swim it through any cover, flipping it, swim it through grass ...then drop it at the edge, skip it under docks. super versatile bait, you are missing out if all you do is flip your flipping jigs.

Where’d the Smallmouth go?
try the riffles. down here when the creeks get low and warm the fish will all be in the current seams or right in the riffle. also, if there is a canyon section or narrowing where more current is pushing thru. they also get more interested in bugs in the summer. you'd be shocked by how many fish you can catch high sticking a nymph in fast shallow water in the summer. with spinning rig i would try something i could do that with, perhaps a marabou jig.

Good but reasonably priced polarized glasses?
I used to buy the sk but scratching and peeling was bad. a few years ago I tried suncloud glasses and am real happy with them. About $50.

Coping with the crowds this year

Buzzbait running on its side
Bend the arm on the buzz bait to make sure it is lined up straight. Its easy for them to get bent out of line and then run on their side. Just make small adjustments till it runs straight. I check mine every few casts out of habit. You can also bend the blades to make them more concave or less to adjust speed it will run at. I've been fishing them a long time so I'm constantly tweeking it till i get just the right sound, speed and squeek from it. About the time it looks just right ....KABAAM! Then i start over.
