  1. I like bouya double colorado in the spring and war eagles in the fall. For trailer i usually use the zoom split tail spinnerbait trailer.
  2. A couple of tatula sv's cause if you have one you'll want another.
  3. Only advice i have is to be sure to do the little bit of extra work to secure the ground to the trailer securely. Most problems I've ever had with lights comes down to the grounding.
  4. He should be cool about it. The only reason they make 100k in a fishing tournament is because there selling merch to other fishermen.
  5. Arkie jigs was a brand. But now Arkie jig generally refers to the style of jig head. An all purpose jig head, good for flipping or casting. Particularly good around wood. Many brands make arkie style jigs, including high end, hand tied to the very cheaply made. I'm not familiar with v & v brand of jigs. Are you sure its not V & M. With owner hooks, if there not rusted, i'd use them. You can always replace the skirts.
  6. a jig. its hard to think of a situation where it just wouldn't work. might not always be the best choice for all situations, but it'll probably work. I always have one tied on in the boat, can't say that about any other technique.
  7. Especially if you want to be a better jig fisherman. He is the man, and he's pretty entertaining.
  8. Just curious, if using the trauma sheers as line cutter, why do you have to alter them/remove the blunt end etc.?
  9. A little rope and a trucker's hitch work just fine. Hauled an old 15' aluminum canoe on suv rack for hundreds of miles.
  10. one thing that helps me is to keep moving the rod tip up on the follow thru. keeps the line out of the water and seems to give me more room for error. the sv spool really helps too. weights above are what im comfortable with as well (1/4-1/2).
  11. Nice. Looks like you'll be ready for some summertime night fishing.
  12. Jig

Rate of Fall & Speed. You can cover more water with a heavier jig. The old "fish it slow, but do it quickly".
  13. I reaaly like it for cranking and jig fishing in woody cover(prefer braid in the grass). I know i detect bites while cranking that i would never feel with mono. Im pretty sure i can even feel a fish miss the crankbait and have caught many by stopping the bait after feeling a miss. Gone back to mono a couple of times for shallow cranking and hated the lake of feel. Never had knot problems using a doubled improved cinch knot. For jig fishing its more of a feel thing, i just like the way floro feels sliding over the wood and the abrasion resistance.
  14. In my home water 15’ is deep. I look for steep banks on the north shore, hard bottom, near spawning areas and deeper water, and woody cover. If i can put all that together its usually golden. Oh, and it needs to be out of the current if your river fishing.
  15. Hmmm.....both those big bass ate big baits. Maybe another reason big bass are caught less frequently.
  16. I think in the bass world the "fat guy with a hearing aid and bifocals" would soon parish. I know one thing i learned early on while wading clear creaks with my brother. that if we wanted to catch the big bass in the creek we had to be very stealthy. The only way in these creeks to catch the bigger bass was to spot and stalk them. one of us would walk the high bank and spot a big fish, relay the info to the one wading. he would then make as long a cast as you could to the fish. if the big fish didn't detect you, they would very aggressively strike the little jig and pig. if you blew the stalk , the cast, or weren't ready for the violent strike, she was gone. you could catch dinks all day long slopping through the creek, the big ones took a very different approach. i don't know about smart, but more aware, you bet.
  17. funny. prespawn is my favorite time to throw a jig. the only times i seem to struggle with a jig is in rapidly falling water. fish seem to pull away from the shallow cover and, for me, jig fishing gets tougher when i'm not throwing to visible cover. if i'm having to "blind cast" to a ledge or something i do better dragging a texas rig. unless you can count a swing head for those situations, i lose confidence in the jig.
  18. I'd look at a supreme fiberglass jon. Run really shallow, holds lots of gear for overnighters, super comfortable. They've been using those type jon boats on the ozark streams forever.
  19. another vote for the gambler big ez and little ez. i also have really good luck swimming a zoom super chunk. you have to impart the swimming action, but if i also want to flip it in a laydown or skip it under a dock it's much more versatile.
  20. I think if a friend of mine was blowing me up with pictures of fish he's catching and wouldn't take me fishing I'd be blocking his number.
  21. zoom super chunck, also like the zoom z-hog and z-craw. z-hog has gliding action(i remove the side flappers), z-craw has a real tight kicking action. both are good texas rigged as well.
  22. you can use the tubing that came with it. just cut them in half, slide trailer hook on, then the piece of tubing over the barb.
