  1. I was going to email a mod and ask this question but, it was a honest question post that I thought could have been fruitful and informative and concerned our guys in the military. It was not political in a real sense, it was not mean spirited, it could have been opinionated but, like I said. I saw no real reason to shut it down. Just curious. I saw where it may have looked like it could have turned bad, but, I certainly would not have lead it there. I am pretty easy to get along with. I took it a little personally that it was shut down so soon without the benefit of the doubt for as many post as I have had in here. Again, certainly no problem with this decision, its you guys call, but, I was just curious why it was red flagged so quickly. I have seen you guys let other post go to the hilt. Welcome made a statement, and I Blair respounded. We PMed and let our thoughts known like adults so...
  2. I run a Jet Outboard Drive with stick steering so I have one depth finder at my feet up front. I have two transducers, one at the transom and one on the trolling motor. I have a switch that when I am on the run I use the the transom transducer, while fishing I flip the switch and run the one on the trolling motor. I also use a flasher, in which I use most of the time up front as it is real time accurate and I like it better than a depth finder for most of my fishing.
  3. 17' Express Jet Boat, Grey, Stick Steering, Evinrude 70/55 Jet Drive, 36v 85lb thrust Motorguide trolling motor, and big Kuhunas to run wide open in five inches of water while sitting up front in crystal clear water, lol.
  4. Did you ever see the Winnie The Pooh Movie during All Hallows Eve LBH? I think it was one of those " Spookables " that ol' Tiger was talking about !!!
  5. I fish a lot by myself at night and never got spooked too much but, you do hear and see things at night that can be creepy. I do remember watching a show about Sasquatch and they had a incident where down south somewhere where they have a so called " Swamp Ape ". The show did a reenactment of the incident. The guys were in a boat at night and heard something and smelled a strong odor out in a swamp and turned their spot light toward the bank and startled a Bigfoot whom started sreaming and held its hands up to block the light from its eyes. True or not true, if something like this happened to me I believe I would have to throw my Fruit of the Looms away !!!

Avid, I can see your smile and feel your pride clear up here in Western Maryland. Nice looking bunch, for sure. Good stuff.
  7. For river smallies and spinnerbaits and buzzbaits I use a Curado 200 and #12 line. For green bass and lakes I use a Abu Garcia C3 and #14 to#17 line for spinnerbaits and a C4 and #20 line for buzzbaits. both of the Abu Garcia's cast a mile.
  8. I ran across this while surfing around. I was wondering, as a lot of us are night fishing now, have any of you had any spooky experiances while on the water at night? Scary Fishing Trip Every word of this story is absolutely true. For the last few months I have been fishing at an abandon mining pit. I guess when they were at around 200 feet they hit an underground steam. I guess they tried to pump it out but it was useless. Some equipment never made it out so I'm sure it makes pretty good cover for anything living down there. Now I have seen some things there while fishing at night that I cannot explain. If my buddy hadn't been there to see this one I would have never mentioned to anyone. One day my Buddy and I were fishing on a very small island that drops off to well over 50 ft and just gets deeper farther out- Much Deeper. Anyway we decided to pack it in about an hour before dark. As my buddy was trying to untangle his dog from his fishing line I saw something in the water about 40 feet away. I didnt pay much attention thinkg it was a log. When I looked again it had moved about ten feet toward us, with no wind. So I said what is that. My buddy looked and said , I have no clue but it's coming toward us. We watched it for about minute or so when I remmebered I small binoculars in my takle box. Now it was about 20 ft. away and I zoomed in to see what I can only describe as being about 2 1/2 feet wide about 12 to 14 inches high (thats just what was out of the water!) and it looked like a giant meatball with dark hair (or fur) on it. I couldn't see any eye's so I dont know we were looking at the head or back or what. When my buddy looked with the binoculars he freaked . I said what do you think it is? His reply was, I dont know and I'm not sure I want to,but it's definetly coming toward us.Let's go! That night we were trying to come up with any possible explanation for what we now call MEATWAD. Thats when we realised that thing was stalking his dog! (hopefully not us) It made sense that anything that big would need to eat alot. So it probably ambushed unsuspecting coyotes and things that came down to drink. After that I never fish there at night alone and never without a gun!
  9. Grass early in the morning, and I mean grass a little deeper like 6-8 feet and topwaters are good for river smallies. As the sun comes up, fish the dropoff into the main channel or the ends of points in the deeper water. Other than that, fish the main channel. Use your depthfinder to find underwater junk, boulders, ledges, etc. We have a stretch for example near my house that is running around 2-4 feet right now and there is a main river channel that runs about 14-17 feet full of ledges, rocks and gravel. This deeper channel only runs about a 100 yards or so but, you can pretty much be assured that you can pull out 25 or so smallies from this " ditch " everytiime you follow it. Tubes with a 1/4oz jighead thrown straight up river a head of you and allowed to sink and deadstick for a few minutes and then a steady, pop, pop off the bottom works well. The clearer the water the faster you want to work it back to you. It you work it too slow they tend to tail grab too much. Don't give them time to think about it. Make them bite. Just a example. ---For me, this time of year, night time is the right time. Night fishing will tend to get the bigger smallies. Stay safe in the low water.
  10. Thanks for the enlightenment Raul. Interesting stuff. Although, I read way too much as it is, I do want to read about the Cuban Missle Crisis and Curtis LeMays involvement. I will also watch " Troy ". You have invoked a interest that I have to feed. I guess I should do more research before I make a statement. I guess there is a place in warfare for guys like Patton, although, I stand by my statement of him being a loose cannon. You sustained that statement but, filled in the blanks for me of why they kept him around. I guess every war had its larger than life men whom were needed for the time and thought outside the box. Patton, Swarztkoff, Marshall, MacArthur, etc. None of these men were popular with their bosses and seemed to butt heads a lot but, they filled the niche for the situation at the time. Thanks for the interesting information.
  11. Hmmm, you pointed out some interesting things Raul. I guess from that perpective, you are right. I still think he was a loose cannon but, in the time and considering the situation, maybe he was right for the job, who knows? Maybe a crazy bast*** like him filled a niche for the time.
  12. IMO, George Patton was a egotistical, rogue, loose cannon whom got a lot of innocent people killed because of his crazy self serving decisions. The president recognized that and took care of that nutball. I never understood why anyone looked up to that man. He was very dangerous. Just my opinion. http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/2WWpatton.htm
  13. :-? , that soldier was my son Welcome. He was protecting himself and others. The decision was made to quell complaints from local officials in the town. His CO and other men in his patrol backed him up completly and felt he was fully justified, but, the hearing was done by some guys off of a Navy Ship whom never seen a fire fight. The wounded being charged for their own meals was on CNN and was ridiculed by senators and congressmen. No soldier fighting should have to have his family on Welfare, there is no excuse for that. Buying your own Flak Jacket because of a shortage and a lack of preparation from a country that sends billions to other countrys is ridiculous. Have a good day sir.

  15. 1. Why did someone very close to me get knocked down a rank for shooting a Iraq running out of a building pointing something and screaming at him--it was a only a cell phone after the fact---- but, it was also after a brief enemy combat situation. Why? 2. Why do our guys have to purchase some of their own equipment? 3. Why do the wounded get charged for their meals while on the meand ? 4. Why are some of the familys on welfare while their spouses are fighting ? Just some honest questions. :-?
  16. A few of us guys on the Upper Potomac in MD and Susquehanna in the Harrisburg PA area used to up our size on summer smallies by throwing a 6" lizard at times. Rarely have I heard of anyone whom threw 6" lizards for smallies. It was a good tactic on the grass beds. I always threw a green pumpkin one with the very end of the tail dipped in chartruese " Spike It " but, my buddy swore by the " Junebug colored one. We rigged them on #8 test, 1/32oz Gremlin bull shot and a 3/0 skin hooked hook. If you are having those 50 fish days where they are all small 10-13 inchers and you want to up your size, it seems this works at times.
  17. Before the Senko, I was a big Sluggo fan. A Red Shad or Peal White Sluggo on the Lower Potomac could be a big producer at times. I still like Sluggo's at times though and as I was looking for some more rainbow trout colored Sluggo's the other day in 6" because all of our lakes are stocked to the brim full of trout and I have had a lot of luck using them on my local waters for green bass. I saw in the saltwater section some BIG 9" ones intended for stripers. With all the talk of everyone uses big swim baits, I was wondering if any of you ever tried these big baits on green bass?
  18. Great pics, Islandboy !!! Too you fisherboy, ah, to be young again. Enjoy your youth my friend, its special.

Is that guy still posting on other forums Muddy? I always wondered if he was in here under a ghost name. He was, well, unique.

First of all Muddy, we have to get you to a new place that is not situated under some power lines or near a nuclear plant !!! Secondly, I woud say with this post, " You are in big trouble mister, BIG TROUBLE,lol. ;D
  21. Catt and George, This was a fine example of why this site is so informative. It gets all of us old hats to put our two cents in and really helps the young guys out. It also makes the older guys like me rethink some things. My instinct and the way I fish is this. I try to keep it very primal. Many variations such as wind, current, season, water temp, a slight variation in bottom structure or depth, a break, etc, etc, comes into play. But, as we all know, the bottom line, or base line for bass is procreation, food, and cover. Again, fantastic post, and great thoughts from all.
  22. Well, I guess I missed something but, I agree, a little heated discussion is good for the blood flow and its good to vent at times but, I think the mods do a good job of keeping it civil when it gets out of hand, or is on that path of getting out of hand. It never solves anything to get goofy.
  23. RW, I am ashamed. I would not think that a man of your caliber would want to laugh and drink that nasty old ice cold beer, eat those dirty old shrimp and those ribs which are so bad for you, I am just shocked, lol. ;D
  24. Dude, I saw a report that a few years ago they did a over all study of the bridges in the US and 60% were rated as poor because of the increased traffic we have now. Its just another bullet in my belt concerning my opinion of, its nice to be the good guy and help the world but, its time time to take care of ourselves for awhile. We need to reastablish our priorities and I hope the next administration has the same point of view. This is just my opinion.
