  1. Worst baits ever?, Tubes, Spinnerbaits, Torpedoes? What, did I wake up in Bizzaro world? Is it opposite day, what am I missing here. How can you not catch bass on a tube? How can you not catch bass on a spinnerbait? How can you not catch bass on a Heddon Torpedoe? Tubes and spinnerbaits are my two best producers ever other than jigs for bass and I have also heard in here that jigs don't catch fish. I am so confused !!!

You go Muddy. I didn't go back to college until I was forty five. Trust me, its worth it. I took a ribbing from two people of how dumb it was to go to college at my age, and took some hits while attending, I am now their boss.
  3. About a month ago I sent a reel ( Abu Garcia C-3 ) that was my spinnerbait reel and after all these years of slamming it a spring broke inside. I just fiqured I would send it to Reel Mech for a good going over. These reels are awesome. Anyhoo, I never heard anything and after a few weeks I called the USPS with a tracking no. and it was lost. No, I am a tighta** and did not insure it. I got a phone call the other night from a guy in NJ, yes, NJ and he said his wife recieved a reel with a note inside. He was very gracious and sent it back to me. I just got it back this morning. I got his address and am sending him shipping cost. How in the he** did my reel get to a house in Jersey when it was sent to Reel Mech, lol. LBH, your up !!!
  4. cjenson, I am old and set in my ways as to smallie fishing but, I always keep myself open. It interest me greatly as to the lures and technique different regions use. For instance, Rw, FishCris and some others adjust to the type of water, locations, tactics and baits used for their smallie fishing in their perspective regions. How about a low down of what you guys do in that part of the Mississippi River. I think we all would be interested.
  5. I have tried to use scents. I just never saw where they made a difference. By the way, what the he** is a Blur Gill ??? I mean my spelling is not that great but, some of the post lately have been insane with the spelling. If some of the young guys in here, by the time they are in 10th grade, spell like some I have seen, I am not understanding the education system. Please young guys, at least make a attempt at some of your spelling. When you go to college, the prof's are going to eat you guys for breakfast. Just trying to help.
  6. Avid, gee, thanks a lot. Now I will have that song " I'll Tumble for Ya " in my freagin head the rest of the day !!! ;D
  7. Avid, my first reel my dad got me was a 33, I bought my sons first reel when he was small and it was a 33 and I just bought my granddaughter one last month. Its a great starter reel for kids and a inexpensive good reel for anyone whom fishes. Rw, I might add, ICE COLD BEER IS A HIGHLY OVER RATED THING !!!
  8. Hey guys, try the LC Slender Pointer, and tell me what you think. This is the new hot thing here for the river smallie guys here. Every year its something, lol. No, I am not a big LC fan. Too pricey for what they do. I will stick with my good ole' Rapala Husky Jerks and Rogues. Man, my age is really starting to show. I don't follow the trends. I just use what works. The year before it was the Skitter Pops and I stayed with my Zara Spooks, the year before that it was Baby Brush Hogs and I stayed with my tubes, the year before that it was the Titanium spinnerbaits and I stayed with my Big Mouth Lure spinnerbaits and War Eagles, etc, etc, etc. I look forward ever year to the new " Hot Bait " though, its fun to watch everyone scramble to find them and buy all they can get, lol. ;D www.bigmouthlures.com www.wareaglelures.com
  9. Crankbaits are my lowest baits on the list. Oh, I can catch some fish on them, but for me, its rarely good ones. Catt, tube baits !!! Tubes are my no. one producer here in MD and PA for both green and brown bass. Maybe its regional thing. I would say its one of the most used baits here. I guess things are different in Texas. A 4" Black Neon or Junebug tube, 1/8oz pegged bullet wt flipped and pitched for largemouth is awesome here. Its a given for smallies but, is fantastic for green bass as well. I guess its kind of like spinnerbaits in different regions. I hear guys in hear that say they can't catch fish on spinnerbaits, and for me, its one of my top producers as well. Oh well, different parts of the country are, well, so different.
  10. While I am on a fishing line roll I might as well have at it. I am starting to feel like Rosanna Rosanna Dana from SNL here, " Ya know Jane, its always something", its either your lines to stretchy, you can't feel your bait, the color is wrong, its not strong enough, too big too small, and yada, yada, yada. I keep hearing the complaints about line stretch and feel. Your line while not fishing under a load like using worms, tubes or any soft plastic is not stretching very much. Everything still transfers to your hands as far as feel if you have a quality rod in your hands. Deep water and very long cast can make a difference with line stretch but, if you are experianced, thats not a problem either on the hook set. Fighting a big fish with a line that contains some stretch can be a good thing. Very cold water fishing like I do, line stretch can be a big advantage. Look at BPS Excel line, its stretchy but, in the cold Dec and Jan months while fishing for big smallies here in the rivers its one of the best lines I have found. I don't know how many 4-6 smallies some of you have caught, but, they never give up and when you get them by the boat, a little line stretch can certainly mean the difference between a break off and boating the fish. I like some stretch in my line, limited of course but, it can be a good thing. And thats all I have to say about that, OK, I know, " Tuck and Roll again, lol. C YA !!! P.S.- The bottom line on this line equation is this. Use what you feel comfortable with and have faith in. Don't let anyone tell you one line is the best. There is no best. The best is the one after all the attempts at using other lines is best for you and fits your fishing needs.
  11. Noth :)ing better than a Dad. Mine was a great guy. I could not have asked for a better one, I was lucky. He died on my 21st birthday. The older I get, the more I miss him. I would have really liked him to have met my son and granddaughter. He is the one whom instilled my interest in fishing and used to take me when I was a kid. Great memories.
  12. Good luck Catt, and stay safe. I hope the trip up the gulf doesn't build that hurricane up even more. I just can't imagine dealing with hurricanes like you guys do in the gulf regions like Fla, Tx, Al and such. I would be terrified. I was along the Eastern Shore in MD years ago Flounder fishing and was just swiped by one along the VA coast. The winds were only 60-75mph and I was in the motel scared sh******. I thought for sure the roof was going to come off. The tide was very high and water was coming into the lobby. The winds in the 150mph range like you all get would have me in a state of shock.
  13. Good uns for sure.
  14. So true Catt. Thanks for the reality check, lol. I remember the gas lines in the 70's when I was using Sunoco High Octane for my go fast Model K Harley I had in High School and gas was 23.9 and it went up to 29.9 I raised he**,lol. Hmmm, the good old days, my Harley, gorgous girlfriend, the hot summers of freedom from it all, and Boones Farm Wine for 1.25 a bottle. Boy, did I have fun, lol.
  15. When is the last time you defraged your pc?
  16. I wish you luck in finding the appropriate candidate Glenn. I wish I had more of a technical background to help but, unfortunatly I do not. I am sure you will find someone in here. The basic reason I had written you is my friend has a site and is co-owner of www.mobilepathways.com/default.htmlhaving to do with his civilian run para military solutions, as well as, civilian power solutions for portable power for laptops, communications and such. We were just talking recently about his problems on his site and he mentioned the exact same thing you were talking about, copyright infringments. He said its hard to keep up with it all. He hired a young main right out of a two year college program whom he raves about. Maybe something to look into on your end and hit up the local community college. It could be experiance for him or her and help for your problem as well.---Jim
  17. My Walleye recipe: Walleye layed in tin foil, open up put a pat of butter inside, three lemon wedges and sprinkle a very small amount of Old Bay on top along with some salt and pepper. Pour about a half a cup of white wine in the foil, wrap it, put a few holes in the foil and put on the gas grill or charcoal grill for about 8-12 minutes. Cook it just enough that its gets firm but, don't overcook it. I like to serve mine with fried potatoes and onions.
  18. After my two post on fishing lines like braid and flouro I have come to the same conclusion I had before. I used to be guilty of buying everything that came out and always went back to what I used before. Its the same way again for me. In my opinion, if you have to use a leader, spray the he** out of it, boil it, untangle it, etc, etc, Its not worth the hassle. Bottom line, the best line I ever used for light line in #6-#8 test is Super Silver Thread, but, they don't make it in green so I won't use it but, I also like the AN-40. The best all aroung line I will continue to use is Big Game, Excel and XT period. I have taken to #6 Yozuri Soft though and it is added to my everyday fishing. Good stuff, at least in #6. I did not like the #12, but, thats just me. To the point for light line( #6-#8 ) on spinning reels its BPS Excel in #8, AN-40 in #8 or YS in #6, period. For line #10 and above for baitcasters its Big Game in #10-#15 and for the heavy stuff and #17-#20 test its XT. I am done.IMO
  19. Ha, ha, ha. We are turning into out granddads RW. It sounds like yours and mine came out of the same mold. Onery !!! I remember mine used to grab me, throw me down on the couch and sit on my head and pretend he was farting, lol, all the while my grandmother was a saint !!! What did I say about genetics? Its no wonder I have issues, lol.
  20. No Avid, as a health care professional its going to have to be the five fat fingers, hand full of sandy river mud, open up and say ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh method.
  21. What are you trying to do RW, put me out of a job? Dude, I can't agree on the Thunderbird, its Yuenglings Beer, a shot of Cap't Morgan, Spare Ribs, Crabs, Shimp, Crawdads, Oysters, Clams, Lobster, Scallops, Deer Loin and New York strips done medium that keep me going. Duh !!!!
  22. Yea, what RW said. Erie must be a big holding tank. I have been there a dozen times and you can't tell me that those 5, 6 and somethimes 7 pound fish live there all year long, what you think I am stupid?, don't answer that, lol.
  23. I have been in the Health Field for a long time now. I have listened to a lot of stuff in these post recently about the results of not taking care of yourself. I know you get tired of listening to Justfishin but, let me say this. Getting older means two thing to watch for. Your metabolism and genetics, bottom line. As we get older our systems slow down. Our livers don't process like it did, our lower GI slows down, etc, etc. I studied the systems, and still do and if you think about everything it takes to run a body for just 10 seconds, it would amaze you. As you get older it slows down. Genetics, or your family history, parents, grandparents, great grandparents lends a big hand to your health. Yes, its not your fault but, its how it is. Seems problems skip a generation so delve into your history of what your elders suffered. Its very likely you will suffer the same things. Not always but, the percentages go up. Bottom line, get a regular checkup. Blood work, is a norm, it can tell you a lot. Glucose levels, white and red blood cell counts, HDL and LDL, as well as overall Cholestorol counts are very important simple, basic run of the mill lab works that can nip a lot of things in the bud. Its easy and simple. As you get older you start, for men, getting a Prostate check, around 50 and a Colonoscopy is a must have. Granted, the insurance companys have made a Colonoscopy a elective and usually don't cover them, unless there is a problem, in which I think is insane but, trust me, its worth the money. A regular overall exam is needed every 3-4 months after 30, as a minumum. If guys like us are in the sun a lot your body needs checked for Melonomas and such. Its all very relative. Just a ramble from me to get you to think a little about your health but....................
  24. Dude, RW failed to explain this to you. At the end of May a big Black Tanker truck with guys in black suits and sunglasses goes around to each river and lake and takes out all the big smallies. They return them around the first two weeks of October. Gheessh, I thought everyone knew that!!! I even thought about writing a letter to my congressman about those rat bast***s Right RW? ;D
