  1. I wish I had read this before I went shopping today. I bought a dozen jigs and some Yum chunks. I really like S/K jigs, but I intentionally avoided them because of this thread. I bought the Stanley instead. I LOVE the Stanley spinnerbaits so I'm sure I won't be disappointed, but now I feel a little bad about it. Thanks for looking out for the kids
  2. I am sure we have all experienced something like this from time to time. I wonder if there is any way we could use the clout provided by the sheer numbers of bass fisherman on this site to garner a little respect? Alienating over 3500 (and counting) fisherman would surely upset a company more than a single disgruntled customer. Just the rambling thoughts of an amateur activist
  3. The efficacy of catch and release?
  4. I used to think it was illegal as well. I read the state game laws and talked to a conservation officer, however, and I found out it was fine here in Indiana as long as it is a legally caught fish. So I suggest checking your local laws.
  5. Would a largemouth be able to survive without feeding it live bait regularly? I've always wanted to keep one to observe, but after my experience with bluegill, I don't want to kill it with an insufficient diet. I would, of course, like to feed it worms, minnows, etc. to watch it's feeding habits, I just don't want to have to feed it live food constantly.
  6. Allow me to explain. "Ceph" refers to cephalosporin, which is a popular class of antibiotics. Many people are highly allergic to cephalosporins. Because of this allergy, the pharmaceutical company at which I work needed to remove all traces of cephalosporins from their equipment before using the equipment to produce anything else. My job was to ensure (via laboratory testing) that the cephs were gone after the cleaning process was completed so that my plant site could move ahead to manufacture another product. Unfortunately, that process was halted by corporate and I am now working in a different capacity. I thought the name was enigmatic and unique, however, so I chose to keep it. Also, as I explained in my original message, I can see the humor in the double meaning. I thought my complaint was very reasonable and not at all inflammatory. I was just trying to make my opinion known. I certainly didn't demand immediate action from the mods. I just wanted to foster the debate.
  7. Does anyone else think the user name of the starter of this thead is in poor taste? If so, is there anything we can do about it? This is one of the few web destinations I am able to read with my small children and I would like to keep it that way. BTW, I was young once and probably would have found that funny myself, so no hard feelings, OK? P.S. I have had pet bluegill in the past and they did pretty well in my 55 gallon tank. The only problem I had was that they would only eat live food (worms, minnows, etc.). They wouldn't touch the pond food I bought so I had to let them go as a matter of convenience and economy.

I see you're from TX and you mentioned you can see the fish. Is it possible these are spawners? If so, the situation you describe is not entirely uncommon. The fish aren't actually trying to eat the bait. They are just moving it away from their nests. Just a thought.
  9. I always keep a cattle prod, a .44 magnum and a chainsaw in the boat.........just in case
  10. 1) Buzzbait 2) Frog 3) Crankbait These are the most fun/effective for me.
  11. Norman Speed Clips
  12. My computer logs me out every time I leave (even with the box checked). It's probably because I use Mozilla Firefox instead of IE. I sometimes forget to log in every time unless I am posting.
  13. I think most of you got the point. SAVE YOUR MONEY! I have caught just as many bass on $0.99 Wally-World spinnerbaits and $2 crankbaits as the high dollar stuff. The sad thing is, I will still buy the flashy stuff and I'm sure most of you will, too. The bait monkey is a bad primate. BAD PRIMATE!
  14. Here is something I have been recently pondering. We all seem to go gaga over the realistic paint schemes and lifelike textures on crankbaits, spinnerbait heads, topwaters, etc. Yet, the most popular category of lures has no such accoutrements. SOFT PLASTICS are usually completely devoid of the bells and whistles adorning the hard baits. In addition, they are generally fished slower which allows for a more thorough examination. The fact that soft plastics generally invite a feeding response as opposed to a reaction strike should only enhance this scrutiny. Does anyone have any feedback? Why do you agree or disagree with this assessment? Finally, what, if anything, does this mean to you?
  15. A soft plastic jerkbait (Sluggo, Super Fluke, etc.) is also a good choice here.
  16. I think that says it all. This is our forum. Glenn has been kind enough to put his ego aside and allow it to be so. This sense of ownership undoubtedly promotes the atmosphere of sharing that is so unique here. Thanks, Glenn.
  17. Make sure you ask a lot of questions if using someone local. I asked a local taxidermist about a 'glass replica and asked specifically how/ where to take measurements, photos, etc. and she said "All I need is the weight." When I said I wanted a replica, not just a plastic fish, she looked at me like I was crazy and said maybe I should look somewhere else. If I ever decide to get one, I certainly will.
  18. I was hoping this thread wouldn't end as quickly as it did, but thanks anyway for the advice everyone.
  19. Linton, IN. About 80 miles SW of Indy or 35 miles S of Terre Haute, if that helps any.
  20. Yes, abellfisher. I have only fished there a few times. I have caught some decent fish there, but I can never seem to establish a workable pattern. I usually catch only only one or two.
  21. In all the hoopla, everyone has failed to mention that 3x Zeros do not float any better than a Senko. Yes, the 3x floats, but the Zeros are packed with enough salt to overcome that fact. The packages of the Strike King 3x baits are color-coded. Red lettering=floating, Purple lettering=salt impregnated(sinking).
  22. I would like some good advice on how to find fish in a power plant lake. The lake is a 1,550-acre reservoir. The water is generally muddy and there is abundant wood cover, but virtually no vegetation. Obviously, one cannot use seasonal patterns to find fish, or can he? Is temperature the primary consideration (the water temp varies greatly according to proximity to the outlet)? Are they located primarily in temperate zones (70-80 degrees)? Are they continuously in a summer pattern? Are deeper areas cooler on the bottom or does the hot water discharge keep things stirred up and the temp uniform? What about spawning habits. Any help is appreciated.
  23. Shaw's the biggest corporate sellout EVER! I like Strike King products and he makes me want to NOT buy them! How about admitting that something else just might work once in a while? I know SK pays for the show, but just acknowledge that there are other baits for Pete's sake.
  24. I fish almost entirely strip pits here in southern Indiana. Based on the survey data that the DNR makes available online, I seem to catch fish at about the same ratio that populates these lakes. For example, about 10-15% keeper size (>14 inches), 2-3 % good fish (>2 lbs) and ~ .5% over 5 lbs. The rest are < 14 inches. My question is, is this a typical ratio for most of you (adjusted to the size of bass in your waters), or can I focus more intently on keeper fish. If so, how?
