  1. Wouldn't it be awesome to have photos like this for every lake we fish. That's great! good luck when it fills back up!
  2. Don't forget that it's also an excellent excuse to buy more stuff
  3. If one can locate a good replica artist, then why mount the real thing? Spend the extra $$$$ and save a life!
  4. It seems like every time I catch a new PB (which has happened with some frequency since I joined BR!), I get unbelievable amounts of grief when I CPR her. I don't know what I'd do with a fish on the wall anyway. I have a small 3x5 picture frame that my wife baought me that says "A Fisherman and the Catch of his Life". Every time I catch a new PB, I put the photo in there on top of the old ones. It's nice to be able to look through those photos and see the progression. I would consider a replica if I caught a new state record or something, but it would have to be a lot better than the replicas I have seen so far. Most of them just look like a plastic fish to me :
  5. What's a Senko? J/K ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  6. I have a beat up old 16' aluminum V. It's a mid '60s ski boat that I modified into a fishing boat. I removed all the cowling, tow bar, console, etc. and added an elevated casting deck and a bow mount TM, depth finder, etc. I can beat the snot out of it and I don't care It's pretty awesome if you're not trying to look pretty or anything ;D I have an 8hp Merc on the back, too. It takes about 15 minuted to get all the way from the ramp to the north end.
  7. I think it's 1700 acres. There is a 10hp limit. There is a 1 bass/20" limit, but you would never keep a bass anyway, right?
  8. I fished Merom last week and caught a 4.5 lber on a Lucky Craft RC 2.5 in MS American Shad in the standing timber. You mught have more luck with a chartreuse model, but I was in love with the American Shad (it's beautiful!). I wish I could tell you the water temp. but my temp. guage screwed up that day so I have no idea. If I had to do it again I would probably try to deep crank some of the main lake points near the creek mouths and fish the timber again with the square billed crank and a jig/pig. Good luck!
  9. I have a Fishmark 320 and, based on my pathetic experience, it seems to be a really good value. If you have $200-300 to spend the 480 should be even better.
  10. This is the stuff you here about all the time. Babe Winkelman came to my hometown ~20 years ago to film with a local fishing "celebrity" and people claimed he was paying people for big bass to use for the same purpose. I bet many others have similar stories about all the TV fisherman. I'm not sure if they're true or not.
  11. 1) The more you cycle a battery between fully charged and discharged, the less it will last. By wiring your batteries in parallel, you will be saving them from such a severe discharge every time you use the motor. I would think that would make them last longer. I have no actual experience with this, I am just using what I consider to be "common sense". 2) Maybe when I have time to do the math
  12. I am going to wait this one out before I pass judgement. I think Jimmy's reputation gives him the benefit of the doubt until I get more information. Even if the incident actually happened as portrayed, here is something to chew on: These animals are bred and raised for the purpose of being killed. From this perspective, they are no more noble than cattle or chickens. I despise payed hunts of all types. Is this really that much worse than paying to go to a "ranch" and following a guide to a certain spot where he knows a deer will pass. In this scenario, the hunter has done none of the work and success is virtually assured. The only ethical lapse Jimmy may or may not have had is not disclosing the unfair advantage he had to his viewers. In this respect, he is no worse than TV fisherman who catch "trophies" on privately stocked and managed ponds and representing it as a fair catch - *cough* Bill Dance *cough*.
  13. Well, I fished pockets near the outlet and I found some shad because I snagged 2 of them. I only caught one bass, but it was 4.5 lbs. which is a pretty good day around here. I also had one follower. I was using a RC 2.5 in MS American Shad. I think I would have done much better if I would have had the 1.5 that is on backorder. The shad I snagged were identical in color to the crankbait, but were much smaller, i.e. closer in size to the 1.5 that I still don't have.
  14. I guess I averaged about twice a week and 3-4 bass per trip, so 300-400 maybe? I have caught 9 so far this year in 5 trips. That's not a bad start for January in Indiana. I did catch 8 of those in one trip, though I guess that has skewed my average a bit, huh?
  15. As a rule, I ahve much better luck just prior to and during a rain than after. Bass, however, don't follow rules so you never know. I would suggest you go both days
  16. Roadwarrior should give color commentary at BASS events. I can picture him and Zona going toe to toe on the tourney vs. trophy debate. That would be a riot ;D ;D ;D ;D
  17. I have to go with the Senko. I, like rw, am trying to give up "the crutch", but if I have thrown everything at them and come up empty, I'll throw a Senko long enough to get bit and restore my dignity before I head home. It seriously works almost every time.

  20. I should be there around 09:00-09:30 Thursday. Thanks for the detailed info.
  21. I saw several floating last year near the warm water discharge. See above
  22. Turtle Creek Reservoir (AKA Merom)
  23. rw, Thanks for the detailed and personal reply. As far as paying attention to your posts, I have an uncanny ability to remember minutiae when I want to I do have a (mental)list of posters on BR to whom I pay special attention, however, and you are certainly near the top of the list. Keep up the good work!
  24. I am going to fish a power plant cooling lake on Thursday and Saturday. Despite repeated attempts finding info on the web and via posts on BR, I am unsatisfied that I will be able to find the fish. There is no vegetation; just wood cover and muddy bottom. Obviously, seasonal patterns do not apply as the lake is warm all year (or do they?). I got a bright idea today. Hold onto your hats. This is a revolutionary idea. FIND THE BAIT AND I'LL FIND THE BASS! The water temp varies from upper 40s at the lower end to 80s at the upper end near the warm water discharge. Given this choice, at what temperature will the shad prefer to live? I have read that largemouth bass prefer to live in 65-70 degree water, but I assume they will stay around the shad.
