Gloomis 854 GLX Vs Gloomis 804 GLX
I have a MBR844C GLX (7'0") and I love it. Pitching is no problem fior me and I'm only about 5' 10" so if that helps, go for it.

What line do you prefer to use?
If you go with braid, I have used Spiderwire, Fireline, Stren Superbraid and Powerpro and I like the Stren best by far. I haven't tried Suffix yet, but I have heard good things about it.

Good baitcasting reel and pole
BINGO! I have four of these and I am very happy with them. If you are patient, BPS usually has these on sale for $140 a couple times a year.

symetre or stradic
I can't believe there is any question about this subject. I'm not debating the merits of Symetre vs. Stradic, there may very well be no detectable difference, however, there is absolutely no question that a smoother reel will help you catch more fish. NONE. If it will make you feel better, let's say it's a Zebco vs. a Stella. My point still stands. Although the reel is usually not used to work the bait, there are definitely times when you are reeling when a fish strikes. When this happens, the smoother reel will allow the angler to detect the lightest of bites that would not be noticed with a reel of lesser quality. If this were not the case, why bother with anything but the cheapest of reels?

Shimano Compre Rod
I, too, agree with Bass-Brat.

Pitching and flipping rods
The XPS rods are really exceptional for the money. If the money is tight, don't hesitate to go with the combo.

symetre or stradic
I don't like to pounce on people in this forum, but that comment definitely merits a response. Just to put it simply, if one is taking up line with a reel that has detectable grind, wobble, rubbing, etc. and a fish picks up the bait, wouldn't you agree that a smoother reel would allow one to detect lighter bites and, thus, catch more fish in a scenario such as this? Rethink what you said and get back to us.

How much you wanna bet?

A question for those who know?
There may still have been fish there. It could be that the lack of wind increased the light penetration and soft plastics or jigs would have been a more appropriate bait selection for the weather conditions.

Guns and roses.
If I could have only one album to listen to for the rest of my life, it would without a doubt be Appetite for Destruction. If Axl hadn't blew it, G n' R could have been the greatest rock and roll band of all time.

Fixing the "Check Engine" Light
Yes. Most parts stores will check the codes for free and recommend a solution. I have never owned a vehicle that did not eventually devolve into having a constantly lit check engine light. I own three vehicles now and all them sport the beautiful orange glow so tell your GF not to worry too much until you have the time to fix it.

Baitcasting 101
You could go up to 80lb braid and still have a smaller diameter than the 20lb fluorocarbon. I think the larger braid will solve your problem and it shouldn't cause you any trouble on a baitcaster. In fact, I find larger lines easier to cast on a baitcaster.

Stradic and Yo Zuri line=problems? (w/ pics now)
That looks like twist to me, not memory. I assume you know about letting the line come off the filler spool the same way the reel takes it up (i.e. clockwise or counterclockwise)?

Anyone Ever Use This?
Are you seriously asking this question or just showing off? I mean you can't buy a Snoopy pole for $5. Get real. Of course this is a good deal. Congratulations.

GYCB Luminous White?
I bought some glow skirts for spinnerbaits in anticipation of a night fishing trip a few years ago. I was sure I was just going to slay 'em. NOT! I didn't get a single bite on them. I only caught a few on conventional baits that night though and I haven't tried them again since.

Lucky Craft or Lucky Crap??
The water temp is the definitive answer. The only way to make a bait (or anything else, for that matter) suspend in the water column is to ensure that the density (mass/volume) of the bait matches that of the water. Since water's density is variable and inversely proportional to its temperature (i.e. lower temp=higher density, higher temp=lower density), no bait will suspend perfectly all the time. This is why I prefer that my suspenders float in very cold water because I can always add suspendots to fine tune it. If the bait is sinking, there is nothing that can be done to fix it.

Bass Pro XPS Rattle Shad
I like them alot. I would place them somewhere between Rat-L-Trap and Yozuri quality-wise. As for fish catching ability, some days the bass like one rattle bait and not another so I carry several brands. The XPS are among my favorites, though (i.e. I tend to start with the XPS or the Yozuri from among my collection of Rat-L-Traps, Yozuris, XPS's, Cordell Spots and Lucky Crafts). YMMV

Guestimate the weight of my fish
5 lb 13 oz. I based this on the fact that your hand is approximately 4 inches wide which makes the fish about 21.5 inches long. I plugged this into the weight calculator and there you go!

bass pro qualifier reels comparision
It would be hard to beat Shimano for durability and longevity, but I purchased a Pro Qualifier for my son last year and it compares very favorably to Curados and Citicas I have used as far as smoothness and functionality.

Gerald Swindle's Day 2 catch disqualified
Hey Catt. You got a Swindle jersey in your closet or what? Give it up man! G-Man is an idiot and deserves whatever he gets.....probably more. Unfortunately for him, his reputation preceded this latest "mistake". I might be more inclined to cut him some slack if he was a known sportsman and a gentle soul. This is just a physical manifestation of his boisterous, bullying personality that has clearly been on display for some time. He acts like a professional wrestler and that is not what most of want to see from our favorite anglers. If that's your cup of tea, fine, but the more you defend him, the more his character is reflected back onto you. That is certainly not the reputation I would like to have on this board or anywhere else. Good luck.

Gerald Swindle's Day 2 catch disqualified
The fact you are neglecting to recognize here is that the lake is not closed to the public during the tournament. Any extra privileges enjoyed by the anglers are at the discretion of those granting or denying the privileges (whether they are fellow anglers, media or public). This sounds like a serious safety problem. Now you have two boats in motion both of which are trying to anticipate the other's next move. Never mind that this is just silly. If there were a flotilla of camera boats forming a blockade, then one of the boats should move and allow passage, but a single camera boat should pose no great obstacle to a great pilot like the G-Man (he said with dripping sarcasm).
