Bass Habits & Bass Basics 101
Roadwarrior, You have repeatedly stated that you have an affinity for deep water bass fishing. You have also repeatedly stated your fondness for the Fat Ika and the 6" Senko. I believe you have also said that these are shallow water baits. How do you put all this together to form a logical conclusion? From your perspective, how deep is deep? Also, do the Fat Ika nad the Senko figure into your deep water presentation?

Ike #6 Hated Athlete
Matt, I absolutely agree with you. Ike is exponentially more favorable than those you mentioned. I, however, am comparing him to KVD, Clunn, etc. It's not that he is necessarily a "bad influence", it's just that I find his behavior undignified. I think it degrades the sport.

Ike #6 Hated Athlete
JT, I'm not really sure if you are endorsing Ike or not, but nevertheless, the fact that you are quoting the renowned philosopher 50 Cent in order to justify his behavior speaks volumes about his antics. I have nothing against Ike personally. I get the feeling he is a pretty stand-up guy. It would probably be enjoyable to hang out with him. That doesn't mean I have to like the way he acts in front of the camera. I think we all know people who are perfectly nice and a lot of fun, but when presented with an audience they become a different, less likeable person. I bet that Ike is one of those people. His audience is just larger than most people we know. I guess my point is that those who are defending Ike's public persona based on their personal experience with him or his angling prowess are comparing apples and oranges. It is possible to respect the latter two and not the first. This is the camp into which I fall.

thunderstorms in the forecast, do you fish?
I go no matter what. If there is lightning when I leave, I'll wait it out.

Ike #6 Hated Athlete
The wise : folks at ESPN obviously think they have to show some kind of crap besides good fishing in order to boost their ratings. I wish they didn't do this, but they do. That being said, I would rather see Ike scream 100 times than the displays put on last year by the "troll under the bridge" and the "grumpy old man". (That's Swindle and Bitter for those who didn't see the spectacles.) Of course, I'd rather see none of it, but in comparison, Ike gets the nod.

Chris's Resume
What did that fish do? Your friend looks like he wants to kill it ;D

Depth of Trolling Prop
I believe to maximize efficiency it should extend below the keel of the boat, but I seldom lower it that far because of weeds, timber, etc. As long as it is not throwing a wake on top of the water, it is probably low enough. Of course in heavy wind/waves it needs to be even lower to stay in the water and prevent cavitation.

Are BIG Bass Smart?
IF YOU DON'T PUT SOME CLOTHES ON THAT FISH, YOU ARE BANNED FOR LIFE!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Are BIG Bass Smart?
Maybe there's something to this. According to this site: http://www.morganquitno.com/edrank.htm California is ranked 46th = a LOT of big bass Numbers 1,2 and 3 are Vermont, Connecticut and Massachusetts = enough said

Night Fishing
Sometimes I forget how good I have it. Here in Indiana I can fish 24/7 every day of the year Reading all of your posts makes me realize how over-regulated some of you are.

Are BIG Bass Smart?
Big bass are definitely stupid or they would read all the same stuff we spend hours pouring over and they would then do as they are told and they would be easy to catch

Who is the better fisherman?
I think one's success can only be defined by oneself in any endeavor.

Fish Habitat Ideas Needed to Promote Vegetation
Well, that right there is a good point. I guess I will try to think of something else. Also, I wonder if the vegetation would even hold bass if they couldn't get into it. And if it didn't hold bass, would it even be beneficial?

Fish Habitat Ideas Needed to Promote Vegetation
The chicken crate in the last photo might work for what I have in mind. The key feature has to be that the spaces have to be small enough to keep out the carp and whatever else is eating all the vegetation in there. I was mainly wandering if this would promote vegetation growth.

New to tackle making and I have a few ?'s
I found an airbrush at Wal-mart in the modeling section. It's not great, but it was inexpensive and a good starter unit.

What is your favorite Foot Control System......
I have a Minn Kota Powerdrive. I love the constant on setting, the infinitely variable speed and the length of the foot pedal cable (18'). I do not like the slow steering response and the noise it makes when steering.

Fish Finder help
I agree with that. I have a Fishmark 320 and it has really good detail and features for the money. The Fishmark 480 is on sale at BPS right now for $189.88 and it can only be better than mine.

Trolling motor circuit breakers
I have a 50 lb Minn Kota and I'm pretty sure I have a 50 amp fuse per the installation manual.

Fish Habitat Ideas Needed to Promote Vegetation
I fish a private gravel pit that is connected to the White River by a canal. There is absolutely zero vegetation in there. I assume the carp eat everything and maybe the "trash fish" stir up the bottom so much that nothing can establish itself. I know that there are bowfin, catfish, gar, carp, buffalo, drum and who knows what else present. The bass and crappie fishing is pretty good, but I think some green stuff would really liven things up. I was wondering if I could place some kind of structure in there that would allow the vegetation to establish itself. I was thinking I build a PVC box frame and use some sort of screen (maybe some of that orange plastic construction fencing?) to keep out the big fish, but still allow access by small critters such as baitfish, crawfish, insects, etc. Has anyone heard of anything like this and do you think it would be beneficial? Thanks.

gut hooked fish
I've used this technique for a while now and it works great! In my opinion, it would be better on the fish than cutting the line and leaving the hook in its throat. Just be careful with the gills.

Schooled By D.B.
I get it on The Outdoor Channel on Dishnetwork. Thank God for The Outdoor Channel. Dishnetwork and OLN had a dispute over money (related to OLN purchasing NHL games) and Dish dropped it. I don't get to see Bill Dance or Roland any more though :'(

Electric Motors jon boat
If you fill the spaces between the ribs with Quickrete it really deadens the sound and there is virtually no bowing of the wood. It's AWESOME! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Schooled By D.B.
I agree, Byron is a little too feminine for my taste no matter how much facial hair he grows.

Re: thegreatestfisher
I wasn't really out to get the guy banned. I just felt that I and several others were perhaps having a little bit too much fun with him and maybe we were "feeding the beast". Anyway, I hope he sticks around. You have to admit he's pretty funny.

Re: thegreatestfisher
I think the best course of action in the future with this guy is utter indifference. He is either: A) Pulling our chains and trying to get a rise out of us (and if so, he has been quite successful) or A complete moron and nothing we say could possibly rehabilitate him Maybe we should all just ignore him and he will go away or change his attitude.
