  1. You can cut off the bottom (forward facing) hook from each treble. It's not perfect, but it will sure help.
  2. I used the method referenced above several times this morning. I was fishing in the wind and having trouble with strike detection. Anyway, it worked great! I am a true believer!
  3. I don't know if the red catches more fish, but I have noticed that when I replace only the front hook with red on a topwater or jerkbait, I will land many fish that are only stuck on the red hook. That is unusual for me when both hooks are standard. That tells me that the fish key in on the red when they decide to strike. As for whether or not the red entices more strikes, I think the jury is still out.
  4. If I didn't know the water or what species I was fishing for, I would definitely bring a silver/black back Rapala original floater. It will catch everything that swims.
  5. My son is 8. When we fish, I continually tell him that getting his bait hung is OK (and the noises he can't seem to help making) because I want it to be fun for him. He always reads the irritation in my face, however. I try to be patient, but the involuntary disgust is evident. He always wonders why I always bring home stories and/or photos of big fish when he doesn't go and we only catch dinks or none at all when he goes with me ;D
  6. I live in Linton (so maybe more like 35 miles?). I've had good days and bad. I caught the fish in my photo at Bass Lake about 2 weeks ago, but I haven't caught a good fish since then. My wife is on restricted activity because of her pregnancy, so I have been pretty busy lately. I am trying to do all of her chores as well as mine and work lots of OT at my job to make up for her lack of a paycheck. It's pretty hectic. Wow! That was probably a lot more than you wanted to know, huh? How is your fishing?
  7. The T.H. Gander Mtn is awesome. I didn't know you were going to be at the Grand Opening, JT or I would have stopped by. I never noticed you were a midwesterner. I just always assume all tournament pros are southern boys ;D I only live about 30 miles south of TH. I plan on spending a lot of time at the store
  8. They keep sending me letters telling me I should send the book back so they can pass it on to another fisherman. I told them I already passed it on, but that wan't good enough apparently because I keep getting the letters. If Ray Scott had sent me this book (not that he would) I would gladly send it back. ESPN/ABC/Disney certainly doesn't need te money and they should know better than to try this.
  9. LOL! I've never known any girls who would be impressed with my fishing prowess.
  10. :'(God Bless :'(
  11. Make sure you make a prudent choice of undergarments when you fish and leave the thong at home ;D
  12. Sorry, John Cullum. I knew you meant dresser, but I just couldn't resist the jab. No hard feelings?
  13. WOW! I bet no one else has thought of using ladies' wear for tackle storage ;D
  14. Ok, my Mom is sick, my dog just died, my wife left me and I lost my job, but I won't ask for anything :'(
  15. Hi Pond-Pro. Actually, I was only kidding in both of my posts. That is hard to convey via the written word. My opinion is reflected in the posts, but I meant it in the nicest possible way. Perhaps I should have made use of some smilies? Anyway, my sentiment remains, but I certainly did not mean to offend you. I didn't realize that one must agree with you to reflect intelligence. I shall strive to do better in the future ;D
  16. What's really sad NJ_Stump_Grinder, is that if we really thought you were serious, about half of us would try it
  17. I heard that watching birds makes them nervous. One really shouldn't exploit one's natural resources that way ;D
  18. Please don't open up this can of worms!!!!! Maybe discuss it at p**a.org, but not here. I, for one, don't even want to know.
  19. Ha! Good point. I don't mind it so much from June through September. The rest of the year I do the "trailer tongue tight rope." I'm successful about 98% of the time. That sounds pretty good, but on average I fish about twice a week, so I do get wet occassionally ;D
  20. I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem I finally decided to put an electric on the back as well. It does, however, seem kind of silly to have a motor on your boat only for the purpose of getting out of the water :
  21. My best guess is that spit, being an alkaline liquid, will neutralize some of the off-putting amino acids present in your finger residue. I haven't seen the article, but this makes sense from a scientific standpoint.
  22. I took my father-in-law out crappie fishing last weekend. This man is an avid fisherman. He fishes at least twice a week. I ran across the middle of the small gravel pit we were fishing and tossed a buoy out over a brush pile I found on sonar. 15' water and the pile ran up to about 8'. He just sat there while I caught fish and kept asking when I was going to move over to an emergent tree we had already fished without success. I mean he literally did not put his jig in the water! This post was made just for people like him. I could not believe what I was seeing. He is truly a bank-banger of the highest order. :
  23. I usually stick with the three color scheme and select based on water clarity and weather conditions. To those of you who are proponents of multiple colors, how do you choose which one to use? I have enough trouble choosing just one bait type at a time. I would go crazy if I threw color into the mix.
  24. Well, I know sometimes if you spit in the water, panfish will come up and eat it. Maybe it's worth a try.
