Never fished for either of those fish. But since they like spoons they might like a Cast Master. With the white feather treble hook. If your casting they will cast a mile. And have a killer sway back and forth. Doesn't kink the line as bad as a spoon. Always heard swivels work great for spoons. Never tried. Man my dad spanked me one day with a new weed less spoon that had just came out. (20+years ago) I had the same spoon. But he had bought one that came with a frog looking trailer. And they where after that thing that day. Which made me think you might try that as well. The whiter feather trailer gets bites on the cast master. As did the frog that day. Not sure about your species but bass sure like trailers. I'd think that make a difference on them as well. A four inch straight white split tail sure would look nice swaying back and forth behind a spoon. Might cut the body down to an inch or so long. Think il try them for pond bass here.
  2. Man I remember when they came out that was a big producing bait around here. Think it had more to do with ( there) rattle sound then anything. And the fact that it looked like a shad didn't hurt I'm sure. They just loved it. And they still produce. Every one should own a few of those.
  3. It's all about water temps and Barometric pressure this time of year. One of the best days I've every had was in Dec. I was fishing my favorite spring fed place. Spring water is 55 year round the rest of the lake was 49 at the time. I new they where stacked in the channel of warm water as I had been catching one here and there for a while. And you could feel the bait hit them there where so many in such a small area. But early one morning they turned on and I was landing three to five pounders every cast. If one came off another one would grab it before it went five ft. It started snowing and they bit for about another 20 mins and then it was over. Turned off like a lite switch. Couldn't figure out what had happened. Thought about it for a long while and finally ask on another forum. And a very knowledgeable fellow wrote that most likely I was fishing the front edge of a strong cold front. Yep that was it. I already new where the fish where and when the pressure dropped like a rock they went into a feeding frenzy. Keep an eye on the weather you just have to be there at the rite time sometimes. Il call into work if things look like it's gonna be that good. Sometimes a rain during winter can be a few degrees warmer then the lake water. A rise of three degree will turn them on.
  4. Thank goodness for the white bass bite during the miscible months here. Cabin fever is something I don't want to catch I try to stay away from northerners in fear of catching it. . Hard water sucks I here. If I'm not killing things things like others. I'd practice pitching at a bucket of water in the garage if nothing else. Looks like we have plenty of work coming up this winter. Sure hope I can make some extra cash as well. Man I need so much stuff before spring. Had tackle boxes and best rod/reels stolen out my camper a couple years back and I still ain't got enough stuff built up to really enjoy it like I used to. Every time I go all I can think of is man I wish I had this bait or that one back. I'm sure they'd hit it rite now. Thank goodness white bass fishing only requires cheap curly tails.
  5. I miss a few days here or there here. It's a good time to tear the reels down, clean and reoil everything That way when a piece jumps and and u can't find it you have plenty of time to get a replacement mailed to ya. Or you can take the box of parts to the wife and swear its a mess and you need a new one. Other then that mine just hang in the garage till next time. Maybe reorganize the tackle box and see what else you can buy that will squeeze in there. But that usually just makes you want to fish. Better to cover it up and keep it out of site.
  6. Mine taught me how to shoot and dispense justice to those that liked to check your trot lines for you. That was a two person boat that day one to drive away and the other to put his fingers I the holes. Ah the good ol days when you could give bad folks what they deserve and you didn't go to jail for it. Now you often get worse then they would have if you'd call the law.
  7. Heck I guess it was just those shells thank good ness. I'm not buying no more aluminum jackets period. Think they really need to be shrink wrapped. I've got water proof ammo cans. Thinking if I put some ( damp rid) in it. It will pull any moisture out of the air in damp rid is the stuff in the little white paper bags you get in stuff from stores. Works great in camper by the way. No more mildew. Or damp nights. But the tech nine brought up something the 9 mm I mentioned above was an assault style rifle. Crapy high point arms but other then the kick I loved that thing. ( man a pistol round will smack the far out of u through an 18 barrel). Ran 100 rounds threw it and it started misfiring. I cleaned It as best I could but couldn't figure out how to disassemble. Thinking it was just dirty. As long as you jerked the trigger it would fire but if you squeezed it slow it would click. So I sold it to a buddy for half price. Wasn't but about 26 inches long but it would put a 9 mm Luger round way down range on target. And looked cool to. Black on silver. Heat shielded barrel. Barrel peep sights. Thinking it was scope railed to. Wish I'd kept it as I've now found a library book on how to dissemble darn near any gun. Darn it ! And now they have bad ars lights, lasers and all. Darn it! Oh and if a tech nine Breaks the fire pin. And you shorten it while brazing it back together it will be full auto. But it dumps the hole clip at once. And i found the perfect pin to hold the springs on a 357 Tarus ( humm sp? ). 2 oo eagle claw cut makes a perfect straight pin. Took one coil off the hammer and half a coil off the trigger. Perfect and not light enough on the trigger to Barney fife your self. And gotta love Tarus warranty I forgot the cylinder pin was reversed threaded, one time and striped it. Mailed it off to them and they fixed it. Even cleaned and buffed out rock dings where someone before me had dropped it in gravel. Put my mirror finish I had on it, back. Left my springs alone which surprised me. I'd have figured they would have replace them when they noticed but they didn't. Cost $50 bucks to insure and mail though. Ouch. Wish I'd thought to contact high point arms now that I think about it. Man I love guns. But il shut up now. Since this run on a body want talk about anything else? Any cool looking shorter and cheaper then an AR assault stuff I should for. Want another toy when I can afford it. Can't find another high point or I'd buy it.
  8. Um spam on the BBQ. Wonder what that would be like with a sweet BBQ sauce. OR should I just smoke it.
  9. White only. I think it's all in the sound. Playing with the double blades as well but can't hit on a day they will take them consecutive. To see.
  10. It most likely had been hit against something. You'd be surprised how rough some folks are with those rods. If a rod takes a hard lick against the edge of say the display rack for example it can weaken it in that spot . You buy it get to the lake and hang a five pounder at the bank and snap. Been there done that. Took it back got another one and didn't have any more problems. ( not that brand rod) I now look around and make sure no ones watching and I give it the ugly stick test. Lol we'll not that far but I do check to make sure it bends pretty good before I buy it.
  11. To catch you. Lol. I really don't think it would make a difference. I don't think the fish have time to think/ look at it. There most likely work of the assumption that folks will by one just like gold blades on spinner baits for low visibility. Though. It could also be that the finish holds up better. I don't no.
  12. Yea the other 45 shells shot fine. But I kept the last five shell for around 5 years I'd guess It's a five shot 38 special Rossi. Firing pin made onto the hammer. Good thought though I had a heck of a time with a 9 mm one time. It wouldn't feed rite.stove piped um.
  13. Defiantly . When you backlash mono. It will weaken / stretch where the loops hang each other. Lessening you breaking strength. And it will keep u from breaking off what ever your throwing. All though I think every one should experience that at least once. Lol that will be the farthest you've ever seen a bait go.
  14. I use 8 lb equivalent. thinking its 20 lb test For everything. Never broke on a fish. And been fishing it for three years now and I set the hook like bill dance sometimes. Most folks use a lot larger. But I'm looking for casting distance and the 8 lb Fireline cast same distance as 12 lb mono. As for the jig rod if I had the money I'd go up one weight just so I could turn over rip rap rocks with out breaking off. But the larger u go the more visible it will be to the fish.
  15. We had three old men here last spring caught with over 400 white bass. Limit is 15 I think. Someone seen them and called the game wardens thank goodness. It wasn't there first day doing it from what I heard. Fishing below a dam. Judge got them pretty good I heard. They will never have another fishing license and high fines.
  16. Seen some electric in soles. For your shoes in an FLW magazine recently. Had a wireless remote. If I can keep my feet warm i don't get cold. But if they get cold I'm done for. If I had the money I'd buy them. I like my carhartt stuff too!
  17. Heck if I had that much wrong id defiantly have me a good smoke! And it might not even be the legal kind. Least not in my state yet. I've smoked three packs of cigs a day for the last 22 years. I'm not so sure they will kill ya either. Sure makes jogging out of the question though. Lol. I'm working on quitting. I picked up a cigar out of jar on the counter at a local smoke shop last year. And was surprised at how good that sucker was. Captain Jack I think is the name of them. 1.69 each. So I pick one up every so often. Tried a six dolor one one time and it didn't even smell or taste rite. I was going to try a higher dolor one but thought heck I'm happy with cheap one. Think il just buy a hole jar of them. And toss the cigs. Hope ya get to feeling better. Let us now how those taste. Whiskey barrels?
  18. Lol. Maybe they can stop and pick u up one on the way into work. Wish my wife would find her a boy friend so I could hunt and fish more.
  19. Yep you busted me. I've never used leaders as I've not had a need to. I don't usually fish clear water. And I didn't notice a difference when I switched to braid. Using black Fire line. Seems the fish don't care. I've been fishing with my step dad (he uses mono) lately and he looses way more fish then I do on cranks. Im carful not to horse them to much when I'm using cranks so I don't pull the hooks out. But I tend to think the danger of doing that is a little over rated. I used to have to change mono so often the braid is paying for it self. When it starts looking warn. I just tie off to something run all the line off the spool. And respool the line the other direction. It's like new on the bottom of the spool.
  20. I sure hope so. Cause I'm waiting for this shortage of ammo to be over and I'm buying a ton. Just encase this crap happens again. Will put in ammo cans with Damp Rid for long term.
  21. Hum il have to try that again then I've looked before just to see but my not have had the light over top of it.
  22. I'm no good at reading the clouds but I'm guessing you where there at just the right time. Leading edge of a cold front? Barometric Pressure falling. Tomorrow will suck if so. Keep us informed. Inquiring minds want to know. Lol. I'm trying to figure this stuff out this year. Nice fish by the way!
  23. That's the problem I can't see threw my scope on my 22 in the dark. The Sites are covered by it. But I did tape my 130 lumen (spot beam) flash light under the barrel of the 12 gauge. As I couldn't shine and shoot. I can see down the barrel perfect! Heck at 10 yards it's gonna be right where the beam is and same diameter. I could shoot front the hip and hit him good. Just hoping enough pellets find his head. He came threw a few mins ago. But he made it to the woods before I could get the gun. Little bugger. Skunk two - me zip!
  24. But that's what I mean. The really old stuff works fine. I'm asking does the newer stuff that's say five years old still work?(plain brand ammo. I'd assume the high dolor stuff works as folks wouldn't stock pile it as much because of the cost) My dad was warning me ten years ago he heard the government shortened the shelf life of the gun powder. Not downing the government just asking if others have had any problems with newer ammo made in the USA.
  25. I didn't really pay attention to it. As I wasn't enter rested at the time because of the tip repair. Had a nice figure eight style (light didn't stand out much) gold wrap color going all the way up it. Black or dark charcoal grey base color. About quarter inch spacing in the gold. The sun was on it blinding me. While I was trying to read the logo. Which is why I don't even no if it was black 7ft with ten eyes. Can't find it on the net. Must be older model. Didn't figure they made that many but heck they even have two piece. All the way to jig rods. I've got a reel he wants. He he.
