Cheap-O fishing gear?
Academy has Menace BC reels on sale for $50 right now. Get one and a berkley lightning shock rod. I have a pflueger trion baitcaster I got at walmart for $35 and I actually love the thing. It outcasts my Lews LFS. I use it on a med/mod lightning shock for squarebills.

What do you think?
I use my spinner more than my baitcasters because I like finesse fishing. My president has been flawless. I can't justify spending more on a reel when this one works so well.

Smaller casting reels
I have a cheap Pflueger Trion baitcaster which actually casts amazing. It outcasts my Lews LFS. It's on a med/mod-fast rod but it doesn't want to cast 1/4oz crankbaits.

I found alphas sv's for $250. Might be what I am looking at. I'd love to be able to throw 1/4oz lures and finesse jigs on a baitcaster.

How is the Aetos? This Eagle is my first Fenwick rod. I like it but I'm not sure I like the stainless guides. They just feel weird and sound even weirder. Can't say they effect anything else though.

Nope, I fish senkos wacky any more. I think fishing them wacky is what gives them their advantage over every other worm. Fishing them tx you don't get their unique action. I only fish ribbontail or utail worms on a tx rig. Senkos are just regular worms that have a good wacky action. Zinkers, and other zman/elaztech products i fish a ton of, have a great floating presentation with one end weighted down.

I have caught fish using them on a lightweight shakyhead. I know that's not texas or wacky so maybe I'm still not answering what you asked. I fish senkos on a shakyhead too though. I prefer using elaztech baits on a shakyhead because they stand straight up and the current moves them around.

I don't see why not. A small weighted wacky rig with them would probably work even better. You can wacky rig any worm. I've caught fish on a 12" manns jelly worm wacky rigged.

I'm new at the bait caster in line usage
Good work! One to three per trip isnt out if the ordinary.

With which reel would you treat yourself?
I think I've decided my next rod/reel is going to be a Daiwa Alphas SV paired with a Daiwa Tatula rod. Got to feel a tatula rod today and fell in love. I am however very curious about the DC shimano reels.

I would guess your spool tension knob is too loose. With a lure tied on hold your rod at 1 oclock. Press the spool release and watch the lure fall. Do this and adjust the spool tension until the lure falls slowly and stops as soon as it touches the ground and you dont see the reel trying to feed any more line after the lure hits the ground.

Honesty time: I get a backlash 1 out of every ??? casts.
Since I respooled my Lews LFS with 15# Yo Zuri hybrid a month ago I have had 0. I don't even turn on the brake any more. When I had braid on it I would get a few a day.

Best Shaky Head worm???
I like throwing chigger craws on a shakyhead best. Brush hogs net good results for me too.

Yamamoto baits
Are any of the hard baits any good? I was looking at the cranks today and they are floating which is weird. The popper looks good but I don't like how shallow the nose on it is.
