My buddy from Memphis came into town to fish smallmouth this weekend, the fish participated pretty well. Teaser pic…… I knocked off work around 12:15 on Friday and my buddy got here around 1 . We took my shallow boat up the Holston river and caught a lot of fish but mostly small, I caught a herring right away with a nose hooked fluke. Pretty sunset Saturday morning we switched over to the French broad and caught some nice fish in a variety of artificial baits. I caught one nice fish with a Fishlab flipping frog on the st croix legend tournament bass rod and the rest was mostly with a small marabou jig. My buddy was using a paddle tail and tube. I also got an obligatory “boat ramp” photo for @gimruis Then as we made our way downstream, we started using a kick seine to catch some bait. Got lots of crawdads and only two helgrammites, they worked pretty well but ran out quickly. Then I was able to Cast net 6 or so minnows that worked well. I ended up catching one 20” fish (the one in the pic from the intro) and a 19.9999 “ fish. The 20 incher hit the marabou jig and the 19.9999” hit a minnow day 3 we only have from sunrise until noon to fish since my buddy has to drive back to Memphis. We floated the same stretch in the morning and caught some fish but nothing too big. I got down to the same area to get some minnows and caught maybe 8-10 by 11:08 am. My buddy then says time constrains don’t apply and we shall use the minnows until they are gone, sounds good to me. I got two 19” fish with those! We were a bit past our predicted departure time but I was tickled to catch (basically) 2 20” fish and 2 19” fish in the same weekend

October Tennessee trip
The closest big lakes are Percy priest and old hickory. Normandy, tims ford, and woods reservoir to the south are good smallmouth lakes (I think, Never been myself). Fishing below a dam is always a good option when bank fishing
