  1. My buddy troops for Lakers and salmon. He ususes a lot of Ling hair jigs and catches large bass on the turns where the bait slows and falls. Many days he catches more bass than anything else. As a kid I did a lot of trolling, but that was an excuse to drive the boat ?
  2. Actually, the biggest thrill I get is getting a fish that isn't feeding to bite. For me it is about the hunt. This is a time for deep divers CB, chatterbait, spinners, ect. I would also go out at dusk and see if there is a change in their pattern.
  3. Basically a gold silver buddy
  4. I think we have all had the experience of clicking on something and then it pops up everywhere.......and is the case with Edge rods. I don’t see a lot of recent reviews written on them, but wonder what the opinions are. Thanks Al
  5. Stumbled on an obvious spot that I’ve never seen anyone on. Hiding in plain sight! The one with the blood was 4.4, and bleeding stopped and was released just fine......could not hold her mud!
  6. I back some reels with cheap braid. Fill the spool with braid. Pull off 75 yards Tie to the braid. Going forward you will be able to split a 150 yard spool easier..... Or reverse the working end of the braid should you desire at the same spot. it cost a couple dollars more, but if I get spooled at the coast, at least I have a fighting chance
  7. In NH, Marine Patrol would be the first responders. They are a part of State Police. They have no budget and there income comes from marine violations. Their primary responsibility is safety. They are severely under manned and are often made up of part-time and PT law enforcement. Simply stated, they nor Fish and Game have the time to pursue this type of act especially if it isn't on a major water-way
  8. The only issue I see and is in the back of my mind is "safety". I am more apt to wear my pfd, have the ladder unlatched, ect. I never go solo at night. Just recognize I am not the man I used to be.
  9. My biggest improvement has been in locating fish and reading water and weather patterns. This probably accounts for the majority of my recent success. Also, there is no substitute for time on the water and the summers are limitless. This allows me to dedicate a full day to use only 1 or 2 set-ups, expanding my comfort zones
  10. By myself half the time......I find I am my own best friend.. Bingo...this year when I take folk, it is to the popular spots that are obvious. By myself, I don’t know if if have been in the same place twice.
  11. Noting like Ajay puts in the boat, but 4 like this on chatterbait and Craws. My buddy was lighting it up on wacky rigged trick worms
  12. I shorten my cast and chooses close targets. Also add a break and fine tune the spool for the times you don’t see the lure hit the water
  13. I will let you guys try all the new crap and see what is still standing in a yr. I am still trying to get last year's crap to work. ?
  14. Yup....my partner may not be able to make it, so you are welcome to join me
  15. Being prepared for worst case scenario is always comforting and allows you to proceed with a clear mind
  16. I will be watching this thread. I have a tournament there in a few weeks and plan on Prefish ingredients it next week
  17. @Catt I am usually on the front west in the band's and usually is a depressionnas it exits east. High wind and rain is usually what we get, but the animals sence these changes before we do. In New England these usually hit in Aug, but see a few possibilities forming now.. Any insight is appreciated
  18. Guys, I fish when I can, period. That said, I see hurricanes on the horizon and wonder what extremes swings in high and low pressure does to fishing. Are there predictable patterns with extreme weather and rapid swings. I figure my brothers down south may have some first hand anecdotal thoughs Enjoy the day
  19. Last night I took my cousin out for a casual dinner on the boat and dusk fishing. Within minutes of the sun falling behind the mountains, every time she threw her wacky rig she got hit by a 1.5 to 2.0 pounder. I was throwing jigs and getting countless 3 pounder. Changed to poppers over shallows and I had more fun in in an hour than had in 3 days. A well lit night makes all the difference for me. We quit by 2200. My body is still sore
  20. Howdy, Anyone with first hand experience with these? I see some 12 and 16 strand lines that have smaller diameters than others 8 and a 4 strand that shearling thin. Any input is appreciated. The Silky and pureline is expensive, but have caught my eye
  21. The flooring is 0-2 and floats well
  22. Just pickup some smithwicks this weekend and am a fan of the Image Flint
  23. I always have a top water lure on deck and it is often the first thing I throw until I figure out the pattern. Lately, morning have been a top water fiest
  24. The splash-it gets new ones when they die, but that is about it. I have not noticed a drop off on any other bait where I haven't replaced the feathers......nothing scientific, just an observation
  25. I use the owner's with great success. Depending on the bait, I usually go weightless. If I go weighted it is to improve action. Never worry about loosing a hook, it happens.....and that is how I go braid to leader
