Boated vs non boated
I have never been a bank fisherman. Even as a kid, I had access to a canoe or Jon boat Fast forward a few decades......many of my friends that join me for a day are bank guys. We have totally different views, comfort zones and techniques. Additionally, I believe the boat guy develops skills on finding fish and understanding bodies of water. Don’t get me wrong, there are some great shore anglers, but there is a clear benefit to getting on water

Moving fish!
This Summer I have found the fish to move a lot more often than previous years. I know they follow the food, but our weather patterns and forage has been consistent with the last few years. Truth be told, since I am avoiding fishing memory, my Summer has been stellar, but I can't figure out the total lack of fish in historically predictable places. Beside food sources, do they move because they can. .....additionally, I have caught more LM in traditional SM areas than any other year. Just looking for insight. Thanks, Al

Gun Advice (Pennsylvania)
Legally it doesn't look good and given the lack of experience, you should bring your own food. Later, take the hunter safety course and practice with the weapon of choice. Truth be told, five 17 year olds makes me nervous

Feeding time....
I've fished with guys that do morning and evenings. Also fished with guys that go when they can. The latter tend to be better overall anglers with more techniques in their quiver. My PBS in NH was at 11:00 AM on a bluebird day in 3 feet of water

Do you find that this sport is made difficult and expensive for no reason?
The two things that go through my mind when reading this thread is 1. There are needs and wants......know the difference 2. Life is a choice .......a distant third would be that many have become use to instant gratification, and that yellow duck is going to be the key to success. Truth be told, there are far worse things to spend your money on and it is cheaper than therapy

Etiquette - Boats coming at each other on same shoreline.
The first guy on should have the right of way. On my last tournament we met an opposing boat on a point. We acknowledged each other, both stayed R and passed without incident. Had I not know them, I would pull out and give the lane to them. Life is to short to squabble about this. Later in the day, a similar thing happened and the other boat pulled out. Met them at the weight in and had this very discussion

back pain
.....In an effort to try and prevent the problem,I wouldn't hesitate to get orthotics. Many of our problems stem from not having a stable platform.....which is our feet. Then I wear the proper foot wear, it helps. One Dr recommended 1/4 inch heal lifts to compensate for the angle of the boat

Pollution...
I believe the medical field on says NO FISH for pregnant women. Heard that NH recommended no more than 6-10 native fish per month. Talked to a buddy at fish and game, and he said it depends on the body of water. There are bodies of water that he would consume less and others much more. The issue is isn't lead from fishing gear but local rain run off and former past ways of disposing chemicals and waste Edit...On a side note, the restrictions on lead started on my home pond where the loons were dying from eating lead weights. It quickly spread to other NE states

back pain
I keep a foam roller on the boat and roll out as soon as I start tightening up. Most people neglect stretching their hamstrings........Don't be like them. They get a lot of work balancing you on the water and connect to your pelvis, and when tighten it strain L2-4, and the problems works it's way up

Post a photo a day!
It's a very small 10' deep flat in the middle of ledges that drop to 50 feet on 2 sides and 25 feet on the other. If you don't color code you depths on your electronics, it's unlikely you will notice. The charts of the lake don't show contour lines, only numbered depths. It is across from the most popular cove on the lake and have never seen anyone their. Edit: All the other flats are very well market. This one should be as it would be a hazard for sailboats when the water drops.

How to detect a bite?
Last year, I took 2 weeks and used nothing but 2 rigs. One was a 3/8 swim jig the other being a 1/2 football. I had to learn what these felt like with no fish in them. As I learned "the lack of feel", and resistance, I set hard. My percentage went up as did my confidence. I also found that shortening my cast helped. Setting a hook at 100 feet cast is tough

good cheap bait casting reals
It's always easy to spend someone else's money, but you can tell the coast of anything until the accounting period is over. Many times, spending an extra 30-40 dollars can get you a reel that last an extra year or two and may still have some resale value. I would look for a solid used one. Watch this site, as many get posted. I have also seen ci4's for 100.00

Reviving an old thread?
The only rub I have is with myself. Sometimes I read several pages only to find that I was 12 yrs old when the OP was made. (Slight exaggeration).......but that's on me
