  1. Ok, I will look in to that, thanks guys.
  2. oh, the reel is 6.3:1 thanks for commenting Rick
  3. I got me a new reel, Jonny Morris signature series ans a new rod, a 6'6" turney special medium power, fast tip. I was thinking about using it for crankbaits/spinnerbaits and/or plastics (t-rigs and so on). if I use it for cranks and spinnerbaits I wanted to use power pro, maybe 20lbs, but not sure what to use for the t-rig and other plastics, any suggestions? which would be the best use for this setup?
  4. i think you are going to get a lot of different oppinions about it, some members like one while others like another line. Having said that, I like p-line and have not tried any other brand at this point, I heard good things about it and decided to try it. If i was to try a different line to see if I like it I would not buy a big spool just in case I didn't like it and be stuck with a bunch of line I don't like. I would buy a spool for one reel and see how I like it, if I did like the way it fishes then I would buy a big spool. Just my $0.02.
  5. thanks for commenting Jim. I also was looking around and pretty much found the same info you did, flourocarbon coated line is a mixture of mono and regular flouro. i would think it would be an upgrade to situations where I would use regular mono, I think I will still give it a shot in the future when I replace my mono is some of my reels.
  6. I was at BPS this morning and I saw a flourocarbon coated line, not sure what it was about but even the price of it is significantly lower than the regular flourocarbon line. I asked a staff member but all she could tell me was that if she was going to use flouro she will stick to the regular stuff, not much help there. Has anyone used the coated flouro stuff? here is a link to the line I saw, at $9: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_8602_100017002_100000000_100017000_100-17-2 and the regular stuff, at $19.99: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_89313_100017002_100000000_100017000_100-17-2
  7. When fishing at night I always have two things that have nothing to do with what you throw at the fish, insect repelant and a flashlight. Agree with the chicken liver suggestion, put some garlic salt or vanilla extract in the container, bring a towel to clean your hands and anything the liver touches. I usually do the carolina rig with a 1/0 hook for the livers/nightcrawlers and put a bell on the rod while I cast with my other rod. I f you are far away from the city you can do a bomb fire, it is fun and keeps the mosquitos away.
  8. LOL, I was trying that with the shaky head and the fat ika and I felt like the best fisherman out there, I though about using a senko but then it was time to get to work, LOL. Thanks for commenting. I also have never sheen so many fish in that reservoir so I know I will be fishing it more from now on. During the summer the weeds get almost all the way to the surface.
  9. The irrigation canals where I live had the gates open today, a canal that is normally not moving fast at all was moving at least twice the amount of water. I don't normally get to see this. The first gate leads in to a small reservoir about the size of a football field and then it divides in to two canals on the opposite end. I figure the fish will be feeding of all the smaller animals/fish being dragged by the current and sure enough, I saw bass, catfish, and turtles facing the current waiting for a meal to come by. , I only had my plastics with me, and tried a few things but no bites at all. I tried a variety of plastic lures but the fish didn't seem to be interested. There was a few fish splashing out of the water so I thought to use a rage tail, also tried a Fat Ika, some shaky head worms, and a jointed rapala lure that was in my bag. If I ever see this again, what type of lures should I try?
  10. My first bass came 2 years ago on a spinnerbait, before that day I was always optimistic about catching one. Stay positive, keep trying, keep learning. Every time I go out I want to come back home with at least one new thing learned. There is a thread by Road Warrior, it is colled something like "guarantee to catch fish" or something like that, look it up and follow his instructions.
  11. LOL, I know what you are saying! I agree with that.
  12. No boat here but no music either on my pontoon or while bank fishing.
  13. Thanks everyone for commenting. I do have a reel spooled with P-line and it is clear, it is hard for me to see it because the sun is always very bright where I live, I will look in to the yellow or green floro. Thanks again.
  14. Agreed. For the rooster tail you won't need the hi-vis line, IMO. I don't see how it would help you.
  15. Same here, nobody in the family fishes, I was the one to start, and I had to do a lot of reading, asking questions and researching for what works. I am far from being a decent fisherman but I continue learning from books, mags, and sites like this one.
  16. Good article, thanks for sharing.
  17. I found this aritcle on the Oscar, here is a section of it "Oscar is the popular name for a cichlid known as Astronotus ocellatus. In addition to Oscar, it is also called Velvet cichlid and Marble cichlid. Astronotus ocellatus is not very sensitive and can be kept even by less experienced aquarists, but you must provide it with an aquarium that is large enough. A 100 gallon aquarium is considered a minimum. In the wild, it is not uncommon for an Oscar fish to grow larger than 30 centimeters (12 inches). When Oscars are kept in aquariums they rarely grow larger than 30 centimeters (12 inches). " http://www.ask.com/bar?q=fish+growth+rates+IN+AQUARIUMS&page=1&qsrc=2417&ab=0&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.aquaticcommunity.com%2Faquarium%2Fgrowth.php It looks like your Oscar could not get to it's adult size in a 50gal. I have also seen fish not getting as big as they do in the wild, but I think this is more because the aquarium limits the growth, but a fish that is supossed to be 10" will get close to that IF it has all other needs met, water quality, food and space to roam. A guppy or a molly will not get to be 10" even if they are in a 125gal tank.
  18. This info about fish only growing to the size of their tank is wrong... Really, care to elaborate?? I think I can help, the adult size of the Guppy is about 1.5", while the adult size of the oscar is maybe 12" or more, a plecustomus will grow to 24". I have kept guppies in tanks as large as 20gal, and I had a pleco in that tank as well, the pleco got bigger than the guppies, because it is in it's DNA to get to a certain lenght. The guppy never got any larger than 1.5". Fish have certain requirements, some need more room to move around, some not as much, some need more food than others, and they grow and poop accordingly. Think of it the other way around, in a pond there may be bass, bluegills, catfish sharing the same living and swiming space. They are not all the same size, why? because the bluegills only get to be a certain size, different from catfish and bass. Just like, I am 5'7" and my brother is 6', we both grew up in the same houses but something in his DNA predetermined he will be a few inches taller than I.
  19. Thanks for commenting everyone. I may just have to try it with one of my rods and see how I like it.
  20. that was great!! I like him a lot, he is a guy that goes all out and is not affraid of critics. Get out there Mike and be your own man!!
  21. ok, I see what you are saying. so I am thinking then that not all rods are balanced when they are manufactured? or just some better than others? I would think the higher end rods should be, right? does the size of the reel or lure affect balancing?
  22. FLOFY!!! :D He is a funny dude for sure.
  23. I seen some post where they mention balancing a rod. what is this and why would I want to do that to my rods? how can you tell if your rods is ballanced or if it needs to be?
  24. I have kept aquariums since I was 17 yo, they are fun to keep but make sure you read up on the fish you want to keep. As someone said before keeping sportfish is ilegal in many states. bass will outgrow a fish tank very quickly, the only way it will not is if you don't feed it correctly, the idea that the fish will remain small in a small tank is not true, it is about genetics and what the type of fish will get to be, ever wonder why the bluegills are not as big as the bass or the catfish in the same pond? by that thinking they should all be the same size since they swim in the same pond, and they are not. I agree with the advice to get some minnows in a tank, cheap, not too needy. You don't need a heater or a light for them. If you want to go tropical, try mollies or guppies, colorfull and fun to watch. In the old times there was a rule, 1" of adult fish for 1 gallon of water. So, if you buy a fish that will grow to 8" when it is an adult, the smaller tank you should have it is a 10gal. I disagree with this rule also because the 10gal tank is 20" I believe, so the fish does not have enough room to swim and turn around. It is wise to keep small fish in a small tank, your maintenance is less.
