  1. I'd throw a frog, weightless senko on straight braid in any pockets or holes, and I would punch with some beaver styles baits
  2. From my experience craw style trailers make chatterbaits rise in the water column. What type of chatterbait did you get?
  3. Getting caught in stuff is just part of the game. Barely any presentations are 100% weedless. But if it is getting caught every time switch to something else.
  4. My personal best came out of a pond that's smaller than a football field.
  5. You're not off topic, the rod I mentioned in the original post is a Daiwa. We are looking for the same thing.
  6. I will check em out. Thanks
  7. I rarely pay over $200 for a rod. I have looked at some rods that I want to buy that are in the $100-$200 range but only have a 1 year warranty which worries me. For example, I wanted to buy 7'2" mh/mf Shimano Zodias rod, it cost $200 but the warranty is only 1 year which is keeping me from pulling the trigger. I take good care of my rods but if I am paying that much I expect there to atleast be a 5 year warranty or more. I'm not making this post to complain but I am curious as to knowing how some of you feel about warranty and if you take it into consideration when buying a rod.
  8. You are using flouro that's the problem. Most flouro lines aren't ideal for spinning reels. Like the guys above said, put some braid on there and you will be fine. U can use a flouro leader.
  9. My buddy who is a spinning reel guy was cracking jokes because I had a couple backlashes when we went fishing on Friday. He decided to buy a baitcaster and take it out the next day without any practice. I asked him how his first day with a caster was and he sent me this pic.
  10. I just got back from a pond looking for the good ole top water bite. I got skunked, not even a short strike. So to answer your question, YES! Don't be fooled by the video editing on YouTube and ESPN.
  11. The biggest fish I caught this year is the one in profile pic. Caught him on wacky rigged senko on 3/3 gammy. I have caught 2 fish with the 2/0s and and I missed everything with the 1/0s which had that stupid weed guard. Crazy how certain things work for certain people. I just held the 2/0 and 3/0 hooks next to each other and they practically the same size. Not sure why I miss fish on the 2/0.
  12. Those things are annoying. It feels better to know that they are not only a pest in my life. Lol
  13. I fish them all year except the winter.
  14. I caught a huge green sunfish on a wacky rigged 5" senko. They were even nipping at my chatterbait. But to the OP, I miss way too many fish on wacky rigs when I go smaller than 3/0. I use Gamakatsu finesse widegap hooks. I tried 2/0 and 1/0 and I just missed too many fish. Weed guards are a waste, all they do is get in the way. If you need to go weedless than simply t-rig it.
  15. Currently using 15# Trilene 100% and I have also used 15# Seaguar InvisX..... Both have been flawless and they give you some stretch.
  16. Any clubs in the Indianapolis area take non boaters. I am non boater but I want to fish some tourneys. Please pass along any information that you can.
  17. Lew's has been flawless for me as well. I was actually going to buy them both but the Custom Speed Spool was gone.
  18. I just bought a Curado today and had the same problem. I know this post is old but it fixed my problem. Thanks.
  19. 3 pounds is a big fish where I am at. People catch them way bigger than that sometimes but it's not a constant thing around here. I'm in Indiana so fish don't grow as rapidly as they do in warmer places. If it makes you feel better a lot of people tell lies and guesstimate what a fish weighs.
  20. Can someone please explain how a reel that has a (for example) 7.3.1 gear ratio would have more leverage than a reel that has a 8.1.1 gear ratio when pulling a fish out of slop? I don't really understand that concept, maybe i'm slow but can someone break it down for me? To eliminate the fluff about IPT let's say both of these reels are the same model in different gear ratios.
  21. I own multiple daiwas. That's my favorite brand. I own multiple lews and a revo. So a shimano would be new for me.
