  1. I just watched the promo for Zona’s awesome fishing show. He listed the lakes he fished for this season and it appears he did some stalking, infiltrating, bribing (I doubt that one), or water boarding because Lake Menderchuck is on the list. ?
  2. That’s not good. I’ll take a ton of snow over the potential of freezing rain.
  3. Who needs coffee in the morning when you get right out of bed and go shovel snow for our little dog with windchills -16! I did break a little sweat so I must’ve been dressed appropriately. So far we’ve received around 5” but there’s more coming and the wind is blowing at a pretty good clip.
  4. The last of 6poundbass’s Christmas presents finally arrived. Go Bills
  5. And there it is, my one thing new I learned today. I think of Minnesota a lot like Michigan, hills, lakes, and lots of trees.
  6. The only reason the wind is a factor here is from trees falling on power lines, and along roads with open farm fields. We can get some pretty big drifts on the north south roads along the farm fields. The snow fence helps a bit, unless it’s the snow that’s real fine like sand, then it’s no help. As you guys know in Minnesota, it’s the freezing rain that can really do some serious damage.
  7. Myself and one of my guys are out cleaning up a few loose ends then calling it a day pretty soon. Everyone else is off today and tomorrow unless an emergency comes in. My days of chasing emergencies all hours of the night and all kinds of weather are behind me (I paid my dues), but yes we definitely earn it. Not as much as those linemen working 30-50’ up in a bucket in crap weather. Not to mention all the juice running through those lines.
  8. We had a conference call with Consumers Energy (assuming you have them for your electric) and they already have contractors from out of state heading up here to stage. I’m not sure how they came up with this estimate, but they’re estimating 250,000 without power by the end of the storm.
  9. Two things I’ve learned today. We’re on a roll!
  10. With only 1h 20mins left in the day my streak of learning something new every day continues. I’ve never heard of a grapefruit spoon.
  11. A skunk doesn’t smell it’s own stench, so I don’t stink, just ask me. ?
  12. And water’s wet A-Jay. You’re always in the red.
  13. It sure does look aluminum. Do you think they’ll do aluminum and glass boats? Do you think Wheeler would actually run an aluminum boat on tour? I know some are but still a very large majority still use fiberglass.
  14. I have a company truck. My first few years I’d get hand me downs. Those were the absolute worst! From cigarette smoke film all over everything, smells my nose has never smelled before, to trash everywhere! I paid my dues and thankfully get a brand new truck every 2-3 years so my trucks are mine and only mine now.
  15. Here’s another. I’m guessing by the manufacturer (they build yachts) the boat won’t be cheap at all! ?
  16. That’s exactly what the local weatherman said this morning. The days may be getting longer but we still haven’t seen the sun in 13 days now. Looking off to the east I can see clear skies and it looks like we could see the sun if it had time to get above the trees, but it like the movie the Perfect Storm. You see a glimmer of hope and get excited for a second, then reality sets in and the clouds engulf the sun!
  17. The closer this storm gets the nastier it’s looking. As of now the prediction is 8” of snow by Friday morning, 14” by Saturday morning, then another 8-10” of lake effect by Saturday night for a grand total of upwards of 24”+. By Friday evening 40-50mph winds roll in and continues through Saturday with windchills down to -15*. Some areas along the lakeshore are looking at or above 3’. All the snow is going to be lite and fluffy, throw in the 40-50mph winds, and we could see some deep interesting snow drifts. Should be interesting!
  18. There’s always that one guy who’s looking the wrong way. Lol
  19. To be fair, I couldn’t handle too many 100* humid days. It gets pretty humid here but rarely gets to 100. The older I get the less tolerant of the cold I am, probably because I’ve worked outside for almost 20 years. I’ve said it before, you can dress for the cold, you can’t for the heat. I’ve been sweating and taking layers off in single digit temps before.
  20. Give them some credit, they’ve seen skim ice on a mud puddle once or twice in their lives. ?
  21. Early predictions from the local weather guessers are saying “blizzard like conditions for Christmas weekend”. Starting Friday, 40-50 mph winds, and snow totals in the teens. Temps in the low teens too. Again, still too early to clear the bread and milk aisles but it could be interesting towards the end of the week.
  22. I can not believe the Lions are 7-7! Panthers Bears Packers This is their final three games. There’s a good chance they could win out. Never thought I’d see the day where this was a possibility.
  23. That’s pretty cool. I did a little looking, with inflation that’s the equivalent of $30.88 today. The average yearly income in 1950 was $3000.
