  1. It wasn’t right after ice out up here in Michigan, but late April early May they’d start to run in the creeks. We’d spear them at night. We’d carry lanterns, a grain sack to put the suckers in, and of course spears. One creek had a dam so we’d start at the bridge and walk up the creek towards the dam. The suckers would get to the dam, have nowhere to go, and turn around and make a mad dash to get by us! We’d unload our catch, walk back to the bridge, and do it all over again several times a night. Those were fun times as a teenager.
  2. Looks like you were at Bass Pro. Did the Baitmonkey get him?
  3. The problem right now is the ground is still thawed. The snow hits the roads and melts creating slush. The slush then creates a cold blanket over the warmer road so then, the snow starts to accumulate on the roads. Then come nightfall the temps drop into the twenties and freezes everything on the roads. Once the ground freezes under the roads and it’s just snow and not the slush and ice, things are more manageable and school closings are less frequent. Nonetheless 10” of snow in one dumping is enough to shut the schools down regardless. Businesses and everything else don’t close down though. I was still out running the roads at work. ?
  4. Really? I’d never guess there’d be some sort of mob or mafia in Tennessee. Maybe a bunch of moonshiners and bootleggers.
  5. He’s in for a trip. Where he’s going there’s close to 2’ of snow dumped in the last 72hrs and supposed to get another 6” in the next 24hrs. Where I am, as usual we’re on the line of getting dumped on with lake effect or not. We’ve received 10-12” and we’re supposed to get another 4” today. To add to this mess, the wind is going to be brutal with 30mph gusts so drifting could be bad in some areas.
  6. The Buffalo game has been moved to Detroit. From what I’m hearing, lower bowl seats were going for $20! I wish it weren’t a 3 hour drive. Two Buffalo games in 4 days in Detroit! What a tease!
  7. I know I’m a little late to the game but I recently stumbled upon a pod cast with Sammy The Bull, then I listened to a podcast with Michael Franzeses. I’ve always found the stories of the MOB fascinating. Whether is be truth or complete BS, I’ve always found the mob interesting. What say you? I know there are a few on here from Chicago and Boston area, any stories from the old days?
  8. Well it’s looking like we received about 10” after it was all said and done yesterday. No school for 6poundbass today. He wasn’t bummed one bit.
  9. Not much of an informative book compared to the others mentioned above, but Mike Iaconelli’s “Fishing on the edge”, I found a good read. He talks about his life from childhood to adulthood, from catching his first fish, to winning the Classic. Kind of an in-depth look into professional bass fishing. He does give some tips and tricks along the way.
  10. That’s awesome to hear. I was really hoping they would stay together. I’m sure they’d be fine without each other, but it makes me anxious when pairs get split up after being with each other for so long.
  11. We’re dog lovers here, well except the last two nights when Hank wakes be up in the middle of the night because he wants to go outside just to eat snow! We’ve had five at one time (that was a bit much) now we’re down to two. My wife owns a dog grooming business, so you could say we enjoy K9’s. Here’s the nocturnal snow eater.
  12. Coming down pretty good here. We’ve received around 2-2.5” since I got home just over an hour ago. We’re supposed to get 6-8” by Saturday. We’re almost to 6 right now. We might be getting 12” they’re predicting just south of us. ?
  13. There’s a state out west some place (I want to say Montana) that’s been trying beet juice instead of salt with pretty good success.
  14. The Central Michigan/Western Michigan football game last night looked interesting. By the end of the game the couldn’t find the end zone.
  15. We’re on the very northern edge of the 12” accumulation prediction here. Our snowfall amount is through Saturday night though. Hopefully we end up with a third of that. @A-Jay at least we’re not in Buffalo, NY 3-4’ predicted. ?
  16. I saw the title and instantly said, “oh geezus here we go.” Then I read your post. Ya got me! ?
  17. I swear I hear them say it with a G on the fishing shows on TV. I’ve never pronounced it like that but it’s always left me scratching my head and wondering if I’m hearing things. Glad I’m not the only one.
  18. Well, we finally got our first snow to the tune of around 3-4”. Hank has been ecstatic about it and as usual every first couple snows of the year, he wants out every 20-30 minutes so he can eat the snow. As I’ve mentioned a few times before he’s a Great Pyrenees and they’re nocturnal so him wanting out includes through the night! He got the stern voice after the third trip out. Message received on his end. I’m still in partial zombie mode today. ? We’re forecasted to get another 4-6” through Saturday.
  19. I’ve been fortunate to not see a bunch of blood and gore so I’m not a 100% sure, but I have a theory. I’ve seen cuts and blood on people and didn’t have an issue except twice. 1: a kid put his hand through a door window and cut it down to tendons. 2: a guy at work cut his finger off on a table saw Both times they were yelling and screaming and I started feeling weird. Maybe it was adrenaline, I’m not sure. I cut myself plenty of times, shot myself twice with a nail gun and pulled the nails out both times. And have seen others cut themselves. None of those times anyone was screaming and I had no issues. No issues with field dressing deer either. So, I think as long as there’s no chaos with blood and gore I’m good. I’ve only seen dead people at funerals and my father in-law at his house when he passed and I’ll say that creeps me out. I couldn’t imagine seeing a dead person in a situation other than those two scenarios. I’d be gone like Speedy Gonzales!
  20. Cute pups. You and Lynn are saints. Hopefully those two can stay together.
  21. Look up Michelin UPTIS. Apparently they are available for passenger vehicles (or will be in 2024). They wouldn’t be good in our areas. Could you imagine getting snow caked in there and throwing the balance off? You’d have to go to the dentist weekly to get your fillings replaced!
  22. I’ve seen them on lawn mowers mostly and on some sky lifts, but never a vehicle. I agree, I think it would be a rough ride.
  23. Over the years my parents have had a couple of cottages on lakes. One was my stepdad’s house, so when they married that became a cottage. It was a half hour away from our house so it was used fairly frequently. They sold that and bought the property on Big Bay de noc which was almost 6 hrs away. They sold that several years later. Both were fun and a lot of memories were made, but a lot of time was spent doing up keep, instead of R&R, fishing, or golf like it was intended for. My wife has expressed interest in getting a camper or buying a cottage (eventually) up north somewhere. I’ll dig my heals in on that one. If I’m going on vacation I want to do the things people do on vacation, not the same thing I do at home.
  24. When we first started going out to Nebraska deer hunting we experienced flat tire after flat tire. We went to the tire shop and the guy told us we needed a heavier ply tire (more ply). The rocks in their gravel used in dirt roads out there have sharp edges. Here in Michigan, they’re more rounded. We got tires with the most plys we could (I think a 12 ply, I don’t remember as it was 20 years ago) and an aggressive tire and that fixed the problem.
  25. I imagine they’ve already considered it, but with all the EV’s catching fire in Florida after the hurricane I wouldn’t want one in my boat. Plus my electric bill is high enough now. ?
