  1. If you asked me 5 years ago I would’ve said a Senko. But! I gave up the Senko five years ago because it was my crutch and I’d give up everything else after a handful of casts because it didn’t produce like the Senko. It was hard to give up knowing full well I’d be missing out on fish. But, since then I’ve became confident in the bladed jig, jig, slowly but surely the jerkbait, and most recently the lipless crank. Had I stuck with the Senko, I wouldn’t have learned these other presentations and the Baitmonkey would cover haunt me. Don’t get me wrong he’s still there but he’s more tame than he’s ever been ( that’s not saying much).
  2. You don’t say!
  3. Lucky you! Love watching NHRA! My dad is a Force freak! If they keep getting better as the season goes on like last year the Wolverine/Buckeye game should be a great game like last year.
  4. I spent many spring nights with my friends driving from river to river sucker spearing. Back then you’d carry a Coleman lantern in one hand, a spear in the other, and have a grain bag around your shoulder. We’d go all hours of the night. Those were some good times!
  5. You have a bright future in meteorology.
  6. You’re retired. Is it possible you have your days mixed up? ? If I were retired I know I wouldn’t keep track of days or time.
  7. 37* here right now. 6poundbass has a football game in an hour which is fine for him because he’ll be running around and staying warm. The Mrs and me, yeah a bit chilly! ?
  8. From the stories you’ve shared over the years your dad sounds like a great guy. We’ll keep you guys in our thoughts.
  9. Nice work!
  10. Yup, we got sleet yesterday here. I’m not ready for this. I like the color change on the trees and the cooler temps 50s-60s but fall missed that memo and we’re in the 40s and 30s for overnight lows.
  11. You’ve got the Grand River all over in the area and I know there’s smallmouth in it but I don’t know if they’d be biting. If you really wanted a good time go to the 6th st dam in downtown GR and try your hand at some steelhead. I see plenty of guys out there recently fishing for them. If you’re really wanting smallmouth I’d try the Grand by Allendale/Eastmonville or some of the parks in the Grand Rapids area (I’ve never fished these areas but they look enticing. If you’re up for a 30 minute road trip you could try the Flat river in Lowell or Belding. I’ve caught plenty of smallmouth out of the Flat but not in these areas but have talked with plenty of guys who have. @MIbassyaker is from the GR area so he might have better advice where the smallmouth might be. Like others have said, bundle up! ?
  12. I could fish a different lake every day for a month and not drive more than 15 minutes from my house. Expand out to 30 or so minutes and you’d be close to doubling the amount of lakes.
  13. I know. I build them and Vexus 2-3 times a year and have every year for the past few and keep seeing the price tag go up. It’s painful to see.
  14. I’ll make you one heck of a deal. You buy my ‘06 G3 for $34k and I’ll deliver it to your front door for free. Then with the money I make off from it I’ll head to my local Lund dealer and pick up a new Renegade. The two Garmins are not apart of the deal. If you want those add another $5k so I can add 10-12” Garmins on my Renegade. If you’re interested I’ll go fill the truck up tonight after work and head out in the morning. ?
  15. Me too. Our “creeks” up north are maybe knee deep. The biggest lake around me I think is around 400 acres. That’s a pond for the southern guys.
  16. I keep saying that every year but I keep going backwards. Apparently I underestimated the amount of work I’d have to do around the house after moving. Thankfully the boat is paid off or else the Mrs. might be having a different conversation with me. ?
  17. Pretty sad this year especially now, knowing I need to put the boat up for hibernation, especially since I never launched it once this year. ?
  18. Quaker Oats for me. I do it on the stove, add a bit of milk, and some brown sugar. Sometimes I’ll make a piece of toast and put some oatmeal on a corner. Good stuff!
  19. I understand what you’re saying. I guess I was referring to fishing tournaments and derbies in general.
  20. Correct but it also says metal detectors which lead can be picked up by a metal detector. The problem with that though is what if a bass, walleye, whatever species swallowed a hook or sinker? Are we going to be killing fish because a metal detector detected metal inside the fish?
  21. Well it appears law enforcement is taking this seriously. https://www.wkbn.com/news/local-news/investigators-seize-boat-in-hermitage-from-man-accused-of-fishing-scandal/
