The Pro Tech booth was less stocked than last year. I bought a pack of plastic worms there to demo the weedless wacky rig for some that asked about it.

As far as the knot to use, there some that will work that are as strong or stronger than the Palomar.

Team9nine, I checked the construction and it looks like the hole that the line goes thru is a tube of some sort instead of just a hole in the lead. I tied on a piece of 17# mono and tried to break it by pulling real hard while rotating it around the hole edge. After about a minute, I checked the line and there was no preceptable line damage. The website shows a teflon tube for line protection. Trying to keep the skirt out of the way when tying the knot was somewhat annoying. The hook eye is on the bottom of the jig head Another note: if a Palomar knot is your favorite knot, you need to learn another one for this jig.

Check the maps that LEI Hotspots contain for your area of coverage. Also check the Lowrance site for Free Enhanced maps you can download for individual bodies of water. If that works, it will only cost you the price of an SD card.

For the fishermen that have to deal with vegetation, I saw an interesting adaptation at the fishing show yesterday. The line tie is at the skirt collar with the line going thru the lead head. It's supposed to be "The Ultimate Weedless Jig". The bait monkey made me spend $4.17 including tax for one of them. I'll not sure I can make myself throw it near any cover, LOL It is called jigX. www.VerticalLures.com I have a brochure on my desk and the bright yellow paper keeps getting my attention. I'm going to the show again tomorrow and will avoid walking by that booth again.

I have the Crappie, Shad, and Blue Gill in the orignal Small Fry series. It easy to determine if it's wood or plastic by looking at the bill. The wooden lures have glued-in bills, plastic lures usually have molded-on bills. The pictured lure has a glued-in bill.

The problem with a Palomar knot with flurocarbon is the one tying it. You have to be careful and not have the double line in the eye crossing itself. The strongest knot for all line types in the "Knot Wars" series is the double line uni-knot, AKA the No-name Knot.

I was at the show again today to talk to the Longwood University fishing team. I talked to the Daiwa rep. in the Green Top booth about the Samurai superline. He said the store had what I wanted. I went by there on the way home and all they had of what I wanted was in a 1500 yard spool. I didn't want to take out a loan to buy it, so I told them I would just order a filler spool. I won't be going back until Sunday afternoon for the vendor evacuation.

I went by Green Top also. Green Top has a booth at the Expo too, it's been a few years since that have done that. Don't forget to stop by the SHAM-WOW booth, LOL There are a few other flea market booths too.

RoLo, Navionics software is not available on mini-SD cards. Navionics is available on a CD as Hotmaps Explorer, but is only for viewing maps not loading into a GPS unit. I have that software as well as three Hotmaps Premium SD cards. With the FREE Humminbird PC software, you can upload/download and edit your waypoints, tracks, and routes. You can also convert the file types of HB, LEI, Garmin, etc so they can be interchanged between units. I carry my H2O as a co-angler and save interesting waypoints and routes. I then convert the file type for use in my Humminbird units.

I was at the Expo today setting up a booth. The vendor participation is less than last year. Only two buildings are being used and they are not full. The Hawg Trough is in the first building, that should give you a hint.

Catt, he has the HDS-7 for an in-dash mount. If you do not have an HDS, I would suggest you check out each model's specifications before purchasing one.

SPEEDBEAD, yes, a little, when I didn't have either an electric or gas motor on the transom. It wasn't so bad that I would give up bow space to have it in the middle. Sometimes I had three sonar units on the bow platform. It was only noticeable when moving long distances, but not when fishing.

The screen shots I have seen posted on several web sites look good. If you have a LEI HDS unit, it is the least expensive way to have that technology. A friend sent me this screen shot of a submerged bridge at Lake Fork showing the Down Scan feature:

For home defense, you need to make big holes and displace a lot of flesh. For other uses, any pop gun is OK. You can't beat a 12 guage with 00 buck shot. Minimum or no target practice is needed--point and shoot. An empty gun is a club.

All the square bow jon boats I have rigged, I place the mount off to one side and straight. My first two aluminum bass boats were square bow and they were rigged that way also. Here is the last jon boat I used to have:

The main reason is to keep a heavy tungsten sinker for damaging the knot. For very thick surface vegetation, some fishermen use sinkers heavier than 1 oz. I tie a snell with a uni-knot.

According to the fish attractant companies (Bobby???), a fish cannot smell petroleum products because their scent receptors are not large enough for the petroleum molecules to fit in them. So by that "theory" it would make no difference to the fish if you used it or not.

That is where the Humminbird units are somewhat better when using in dual locations. The mounting system of the smaller screen units such as the 565 make it easy. All you need is the unit as purchased with the mount, power cable, transom transducer, and display. Purchase an additional power cable, mount, and trolling motor transducer. With the plug-in system it's easy to relocate. I did just that for my 798ci SI because I fish electric only waters about 1/2 the time.

That was discussed a couple of years ago and I put it to the real test. My test with OFF DEET repellant while actually fishing for non-captive bass indicated it did not repel bass. I used it on a Super Fluke with a weighted swimbait hook and caught a bass on the first cast after spraying it on. The next 5 casts produced two more bass with a new Fluke used after the second bass and sprayed. They were in about 12' depth on a hump. I did a sunscreen test the day before on another lake with another angler using finesse worms and we caught so many using SPF 50 Coppertone, it seemed like it was an attractant.
