You are right about the cable tie anchors. They need a smooth surface to stay stuck. Also with new Herculiner, the evaporating solvent will break down the glue quickly. That may happen with the silicone also if it is liner is new. You may want to wait a whole summer before you try to stick something to it.

All the sonar units I have used and observed displayed the same bottom features whether in zoom or not. Some zoom setting on some units will allow for where in the water column that the zoom range is set (like you can zoom to a depth range of 20'-40' and be in 100' so you would not see the bottom.) Most fresh water users use the zoom to always include the bottom. Most of the better quality fresh water units have a dual frequency for 2D of 20 degrees and 60 degrees expressed as 200 mhz and 83 mhz. For very deep water use, a 200mhz and 50 mhz transducer is used.

The Rem 870 is a good choice. As far as "looking bad" the hole that the projectile exits is quite large and is a good deterrant if the need arises.

The best choice in recent years is a dual purpose battery of the largest size you have room for. The minimum size one should have is the MCA it takes for the outboard. Once you add electronics, livewell pumps, lights, etc. you need extra capacity for deep cycle uses. Newer sonar/GPS units use more amps than in the past. Most fishermen do not run the outboard long enough to fully charge the battery between starts. When you add the other accessories that may run all day, a lot of reserve is needed to assure you have enough power to start the outboard for the last run to the ramp. Cold weather will make that even more evident.

Fishing Rhino, the larger screen models of each brand are in that price range. If you choose a Lowrance HDS unit, you need to allow for an extra $600 for the Structure Scan add-on. That feature was just marketed in the Fall. Most users of either brand prefer the larger screens to view multiple features at the same time (side views/2D sonar/GPS) or a combination of two of them. To help you decide, visit a dealer like BPS that has them on an operating display to see which you may prefer. I have the HB 798ci SI and decided on that unit because of it's physical size (the space I have to mount it) and higher screen resolution than any LEI HDS units and the larger screen HB units. After you get familiar with what you can find and where it is on waters you fish often, the side views will become less used and the 2D sonar quality will be the most importance function.

Motorguide introduced a "better" weedless prop last year. It is called the Safari ( a two blade) and I have heard of the good performance of them in weeds. I have one as a spare, but don't use it due to the lesser pitch/slower speed. I also know of a few that have adapted the MinnKota prop to the Motorguides using a Dremel tool to redo the shear pin position. The Hydrilla Hacker works well too (three blade).

Lowrance has Stucture Scan as an ad-on to their HDS units. Humminbird has Side Imaging that is in some of their units. Your choice is how much you are willing to spend for that technology.

Another note about cutting braid, I seem to misplace my scissors occasionally even though they have bright green handles, and I use fingernail clippers to cut the braid. All you need to do is close the clippers on the line and pull them perpendicular to the line like in a cutting motion-works great if the clippers are sharp.

Sure, just get the safety scissors that kids use for crafts. Fiskars are avalable at a lot of locations, Walmart, K-Mart, Target, drug stores, etc They cut just as well as the so-called braid scissors and are less expensive.

Compared to monofilaments, the superlines are a lot more manageable and a LOT stronger per diameter. For spinning applications, there is nothing better. Some brands are better than others for certain applications also. With only two modern materials used in the mfg of the lines (Spectra, Micro Dyneema), the process of turning those into a fishing line varies with line brands, even within the same brand. If you do a search on this site or just about any other site, you will see there are as many opinions about which is best as there is for monos. I would suggest you buy at least two different brands that feel the same, or that feel different (check them at any tackle dealer) and form your own opinion. I've been using superlines since they were first introduced and have tried most of them as new ones are marketed. What I have determined as the "best" has changed as new products have been introduced. Some of the lines that some consider the "best", I consider the worst. Your results may vary.

dman, the DVD quality is as good as the quality of the VHS tapes. You can only transfer the quality of the media you have recorded. I have never experienced a lesser quality of sound or picture of the source. The models I have are DMR-E75V and DMR-ES40V With the video-in ports, I can make DVD's from any player including another DVD player. I also copy mini-DV tapes from my video camera to DVD also.

fishfordollars, the H2O emulator I just downloaded on my Vista system worked the first time and when I tried it again it locked up. Since I don't need it, I removed the file. My system is 32-bit
