I had a OMC GT150 at one time on a bass boat and it was very heavy. I use the Attwood model with the turned up ends to help get on plane faster especially in shallow tidal waters. By design, it was mostly out of the water at speed so it didn't affect the top end.

I mentioned this before on other reel capacity threads: there is no recommended pound test rating for any reel, the AMOUNT (length) of a certain mono line size it will hold is what is stated on the reel and packaging. You can use a smaller line size or a larger line size, only the amount will be affected. You can put weedeater cord on a fishing reel if you want-it won't hold much though.

To get started, go to the mfg website and download a manual for the unit you are interested in. Read all of it. For Side Imaging, visit the link that Kenny418 posted on the Humminbird 917c thread and look at all the pictures. Lowrance has a version of Side Imaging called Structure Scan which is a $600 add on to the HDS units.

A video camera with still capability in a water proof Pelican case. Most have remote control so you can take your fish pictures when fishing alone. That is what I use. You will appreciate the much higher power zoom available for other uses too. I took this one--you can see the remote in my right hand.

Most of the iFinder series are still available somewhere. Just do a web search for the Lowrance H20 or H2Oc and you should find plenty of suppliers. Usually dealers that market on E-Bay will have some. A Zebco 33 combo will do it. That has been the top-of-the-line beginner outfit for many generations. It's the equipment of choice for the B.A.S.S. Casting Kids contests.

Do you know what the LEI emulator program is? It simulates the operation of the particular LEI product that is listed and chosen to be downloaded from the LEI website. The emulator is a Lowrance software. The entire problem with any Microsoft version compatability is Lowrance's (Navico) alone. Navionics mapping software is not a Lowrance product and Lowrance is only one of several GPS mfg that read that software. It is designed to be read by equipment that is compatable with it. An example is if you had a Garmin sonar/gps unit, you could not use Navionics mapping software as Garmin chose not to make their units Navionics compatable.

I have a Shimano Lew's Speed Spool BB-1 also. I use it for deep cranks occasionally. The only part I have ever had to replace is the anti-reverse dog.

The emulator will not work with Windows Vista or Windows 7. It works with Windows XP and Windows 98. I have computers with all of those software versions.

As with any electronic device, there is a learning curve. The Lowrance H2O was very easy for me to learn. If you are unfamiliar with GPS technology, the learning curve will be longer. Each comes with a manual and you can do some research of a particular Lowrance model by going to their website and read/download the manual. If you can afford the H2Oc, that would be my recommendation. It has a color screen and higher resolution screen than the H2O. Maybe your biggest concern should be whether or not there is electronic software of the bodies of water you want mapping for. You can check the Lowrance Hotspots software, and Navionics Hotmaps software sites for coverage. Garmin is preferred by some due to particular bodies of water they cover or do better than the other two.
