I have the most success with slow presentations in all conditions, so cold fronts do not affect my catch ratio. Actually it impvoves it because the fish are more predictable and more concentrated. During pre-frontal conditions, they roam a lot and search baits work better to cover more water, just the opposite is true for post frontal conditions. I agree with Catt on the location and position.

Paul, to eliminate the movement variable, try mounting the transducer to another separate floating device so it remains parallel with the surface no matter how much you move.

The software does not get loaded on the unit's memory, it stays on the chip and is read directly from it. When the chip is removed from a unit, that unit will not have the file anymore.

That BS is why I am not a B.A.S.S. member now. After the first fishing tournament/race, I called them to cancel and get a refund on my membership, told them it was a bad idea, and a bad example for youngsters.

fishfordollars, the Humminbird internal GPS antenna will work for in-dash mounting as well as the new Lowrance HDS units. The only internal antenna units that would not work in-dash is the older Lowrance units like the 522 because of the shielding. The new design HDS solved that problem. No remote puck required.

You would be better off with a larger diameter line. The diameter of the 20# is the same as 6# mono. Would you use 6# mono line for the type of fishing you do? A heavier line would reduce the digging-in on the spool which is causing your problem. The 20# can be successfully used IF you install it and keep it packed tight on the reel spool. Most don't do that so a heavier line is better.

Hot Rod, is you dealer saying that a plastic gas tank cannot get as cold as a metal gas tank? BALONEY !!! With that theory, does you plastic vehicle bumper not get dew (condensation) on it when the metal body gets dew (condensation) on it? Condensation occurs because the humidity in the air condenses on cold surfaces. With a full gas tank, there is less air with moisture in it inside the tank. All built-in gas tanks are vented and will exhange air with temperature changes. The fuel volume and vapor will vary also with temp changes basically forming an air pump with the volume changes. Each time the temp drops and the fuel/vapor volume gets smaller, the space left is filled with air/humidity. That cycle occurs many times in all seasons of the year with the moisture condensation being the most severe in the cold temps.

There may not be a place to mount a shoot thru on that hull and you may have to transom mount it. Just about all new boxed units are shipped with a transom mount transducer so you will have all you need for installation. Just get the most vertical screen pixels in your price range.

I bought one for specifically one purpose: to catch bedding bass and it works. I only use a flipping presentation for a soft entry past the bed and then work it slowly to the bed and let it sink. It rests on the hooks while sitting upright.

When I use a leader, I use 20# fluorocarbon. The longest I use is the distance from the reel to the rod tip. I use the uni-uni knot connection. edited: actually the max. length is from the rod tip to the hook holder. That is done for two reasons: 1. I do not want any leader on the reel spool so I won't have any spool memory on the leader. 2. I do not want a memory kink in the leader when I use the rod hook keeper. My use of a leader is not what most fishermen use it for. I use it as a weight to make the braid sink for weightless presentations. Otherwise a leader is not needed.

The only time mine are off is when the boat is not on the water (I forget that sometimes).

WRB, what is the difference in charging the starting battery with a separate charger and charging it with the outboard motor alternator as far a damage to the electronics???????? Some of the larger outboard alternators have a higher amp output than any portable or boat mounted chargers but charge at the same voltage. Your recommendation makes absolutely no sense.

Another difference is the total length of the hooks. The G-lock hook fits shorter baits better when a wide gap hook is preferred.

There used to be an add-on digital speed control available but I have not seen any or head of any that were available in the past few years. Several models and mfg have that technology built in.

The original Mojo rig is is just a version of the split shot rig using the Mojo brand slip sinker pegged to the line with a rubber band.

I have several of each type and each produces best when the conditions are best for each.

I have the Matrix 97 and set the sensetivity to about 50% and that shows me the thermocline. I run the scroll speed at around 75% and do not use the fish ID. All other setting are default settings. My main frequency view is the 20 degree cone and have the dual view, GPS view, zoom view, and GPS/Sonar view as my hot keys. All my LEI units are kept on default settings with no fish symbols.

From the performance standpoint, the recent issues of XPS are not as durable and the knot strength is less than the XPS of a couple of years ago. I've been using XPS for about 5 years.

The name got you to buy it, that is what is good about it for the mfg that use that color.
