I catch the most and largest between 10 AM and 2 PM any time of year.

The first screen shot, either an umbrella rig, weighted swimbait, or crankbait. All of those worked. The third and fourth screen shot, a blade bait. The water was too dingy for the jerkbait to be effective. I use that tool for determining the fish size/pattern, then use Imaging to directly target the fish. Frequency has nothing to do with species, only the coverage the frequency has. You can have some fish within one frequency's coverage and not another. Don't know what the criteria that Garmin has to assign FishID symbols. Most brands will assign the symbols to anything in the water column. The only way to know what the species is= a catch. What I use (Humminbird) filters the returns and only assigns FishID symbols if the returns meet the criteria for the symbols like this of bass, crappie, and shad. In this case it is the air bladder size. If the fish is too small, it does not get the symbol. There are three sizes of symbols and two colors. The blue symbols are fish in the 83 kHz coverage and the gold fish are within the 200 kHz coverage. The approx size is the smaller one is for about a 1# bass, the medium size is for about a 2# bass, and the larger size is the about 3# and up. If you are in a school of crappie and see fish symbols, those are NICE ones like the few here: Without catching, being familiar with how your unit functions and knowing the species in the waters you fish and how they relate to each other and the terrain would be your only clue. I use it all the time since it is a fishing tool, not so much with other brands. I look for this during the cold water periods when the fish are on the bottom. I want to see predators and baitfish not only near each other but actual feeding going on:

My Fluke test was with a weightless Super Fluke with a 5/0 hook on an extended point. I was not giving it any "action", just a slow fall on slack 20# test fluorocarbon line. I was in 13'-18' depths. A Senko would be a reaction presentation in comparison. I later did more tests with "fish attractants" along with so called detractants and nothing added. There was zero difference in my catch numbers and rate of catches. Yep included WD-40 too and it is not fish oil--that is a myth. I fish finesse presentions a majority of the time. Makes NO difference what is or isn't on the presentation. Actually my sunscreen test was with a weedless wacky rigged finesse worm and another person was with me doing the same. I think we caught about 60 bass that day with Coppertone Sport sunscreen SPF 50 applied liberally. My conclusion is if you want to have an excuse for not catching, insect repellent is just as good as any other you might want to use.

Yep, it has proven to repel bass at a laboratory at Berkley Fishing. I have proven it to myself that it does not repel wild bass in their natural habitat. I sprayed insect repellent with DEET on a Fluke and caught numerous bass until it was too torn up to use. Put on another Fluke sprayed that one and caught more. Did the same test with sunscreen also and several other "bass repellents".

You can have a somewhat cool surface temp and the thermocline will still be present. This is a cool fall morning, note the surface temp, yet the thermocline is very distinct. All the mixing to equalize the water temp has not occurred. It can take as long as a few weeks for the turnover if no warming trend occurs.

You heard a half truth repeated from ignorance. Regular transducers wear out over time since the crystals vibrate when transmitting sound and when detecting the return echos. The only ones that can "burn out" are the very powerful ones for very deep water that have to be submerged when in use like the very expensive AIMAR ones to keep them cool. It takes more than a few minutes to generate enough heat to damage it. The shoot-thru version of those are installed in a tank of anti-freeze.

The smartphone GPS is not accurate enough for what you want to do,. I use a handheld GPS for that purpose. Currently I have the Lowance Endura Safari 42 channel receiver. I also have a bluetooth GPS antenna that I pair with a tablet to do Sonar Charts Live mapping. I also use it to create and save trails when ATV riding. That brand is Dual with 65 channel receiver. First thing is ignore the timber and learn the bottom features. The fish will relate to the bottom features just like in waters with no cover. Timber is not remarkable to fish that live there. I fish several timber lakes and don't do it any different than at lakes without it. Points, humps, creek channels, thermocline, etc
