What Time Of The Day Is More Productive To You?

Featured Replies

Hello,

I was wondering, what time of the day do you guys catch more fish?

For me is usually during sunset of the first 2 hours of light.

best

Always crack of dawn + about 3-4 hours until the sun comes up and it starts to get hot.  I don't go out too often when the sun starts to go down, usually at home winding down with the TV or something.

I like the evening last hour before dark, and sometines for another hour or so

edit: Boy, I don't retain what I read very well at times.

Evening right before dark except when it's cold.

I guess I catch more fish in the morning but it seems like when the sun comes out and things start to slow down I also start to slow down and be more methodical and I catch bigger fish... Just my theory...

It really depends on the day for me. I feel most confident during the low light hours, but I've had days where it picked up as the sun came up even in the summer or days they bit all day long.

The best time is any time I can go! ;)

Right before sun comes up is my most productive time of the day in the summer. During spring and fall, I catch most of my Bass around 10am-1pm then bite turns off for few hours before picks back up before sunset.

It varies, but I'm an early morning kind of guy.  I'm at the ramp at least an hour before daylight, which is before the official sunrise.  I like it when there is a mist hanging over the water, and maybe a sprinkle or shower.  On ponds with pleasure/recreational boaters, they are usually just starting to get on the water between nine and ten o'clock.  That means I've had four to five hours of undisturbed fishing.

But, I'll also get out in the middle of the day if the spirit moves me.

Depends on the time of the year. In the fall, I do my best around 11-3 when the water has a chance to heat up. Same in the fall. In the summer, I do best early morning till 1 hr after sunrise.

I adjust my fishing to the time of day I can go and catch fish. Before I learned to adjust my fishing it was always dawn or dusk. Now I am a hunter of fish thanks in part to some of the things I've learned here.

The biggest bass are caught between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM

So true for me!!!!  I would say my top ten best fish would be in this time period.

I have caught a lot of giant bass, every one of those during low light periods. I don't sight fish for bed fish so bright overhead sunlight is a disadvantage. Never caught a giant bass ( bass over 15 lbs.) at night, lots of 8 lb to 12 lb at night. I have caught a few big swimbait bass during mid day with bright clear skies, not many.

Dawn up to about 3 hrs has been my most productive time period followed the hour before dusk, mid day is productive for numbers of bass between 2 lbs to 5 lbs., unless it's low light do to light rain.

Texas Share A Lunker program disagrees with 10 am to 2 pm

WRB I have several friends with multiple 15# plus bass who only fish nights.

How most productive time of day became about double digit bass is beyound me.

So are we talking numbers or size?

Catt, I believe the majority of giant bass are bed fish, high over head sun allows these anglers to see bed fish.

I think the number would be similar in CA if the state had a descent trophy bass program that kept tract of statistics, we don't.

Yes, I agree more numbers of bass are caught mid day.

I only know of a few 15 lb + caught at night during tournaments in our local lakes, don't know why? I haven't been able to catch giants at night, dawn and dusk has been good to me. It's all about timing, night should be better than day, bass can't see lures as good in low light, it's been great for numbers of big bass however, as you well know.

Put a 15+ in the boat soon!

I agree. I seem to get better numbers around dusk and dawn and a larger average from 11-6ish.

Also, Go CUBS!

WRB I have a group of freinds from California, Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, & Florida. They have caught dozens of bass from 15-19 lbs, never bed fish, & almost all night fish only.

As far when is the best time to catch double digit bass depends on the angler. My friends who mainly fish nights catch DDs at night while my friends who day fish catch DDs during the day.

To address the 10-2 time frame more anglers are on the water during this time frame than any other which might account for some thing.

I agree. No matter how early I go out, I don't get much of anything until after 10 am.

My biggest fish are usually in that 10-2 window, but I catch more in the morning than any other time. Night time is really good during the heat of the summer.

Right before dark the shallow easy bite picks up . Cloudy days that bite can  be great all day . The deep bite can be good all day too. I've really evolved into a crankbait fisherman the past few years and catch a lot of  10 to 15 foot bass during mid day hours .

I think that is a very good point.  Two events can be correlated, and still, no cause and effect may exist between the two.  Other extenuating factors have to be analyzed as well.

Southern California's public lakes are rarely open for night fishing, hours average from opening 6 A to closing 1 hour before sundown, no later than 7P. The exceptions are a 1/2 dozen or so night summer tournaments. A few Nor Cal lakes and the Delta are open 24-7. Living in SoCal legal night fishing is very limited.
