  1. Exactly. My baits totally depend on the time of year and current conditions. 3 baits is like going into a gunfight with 3 bullets. I couldn't do it.
  2. For me, it depends on the price point. IMHO once you get above $150 in a rod, the performance increases above that are very incremental relative to price. I could say the same about reels but there are some quality/mechanical/features that you get with better priced reels. For me it would be a reel.
  3. That is a very good RC but personally, I do not like Interstates for TM batteries. Any brand you find with that high of a RC will be good as long as it's a deep cycle. Just remember if you go with an AGM (maintenance free/sealed), you need to make sure you have a charger that will properly charge it.
  4. That is correct and if asking for them you need to ask for a "number" 1 vs a 1.0 (1 ought).

I have this very bag as a travel bag for when I am in someone else's boat. Previously I had a BPS bag about the same size with the zippers. I can't complain about the BPS bag, it lasted over 10 years until the zipper pulls broke and there was no way to replace them. The loops on the base of the zippers broke. I bought the new Plano to try and see how they worked without the zippers. I have been using it about a year and here is my unbiased opinion......I like the hard bottom that keeps standing water out of the bag. I like how it fits in most compartments on a boat. I don't really like the oversized flap because it is hard to deal with when I am working out of a rear compartment in a boat. Unsnapping the flap is difficult when loaded into the compartment and I have to fold the flap back or deal with it everytime I need something out of the bag. Everyone who has dealt with the buckles that they use knows how easy it is to break them especially after they get some age on them. Time will tell. The single carrying strap if you do not shoulder carry is very unbalanced with a fully loaded bag. My old canvas bag had 2 hand straps. Finally, after a year of pretty hard use, the rubberized material the bag is made of is cracking at certain pressure points like where you fold the flap back. My search for the "perfect" bag continues.
  6. Fishing the Potomac it is a frustrating situation. There are so many tributaries that flow into the river that every time it rains there are tons of trash that get picked up and deposited in the river. We always ****** what we can when on the water, especially large pieces of plastic like grocery bags, ice bags, etc., because those are lower unit killers. With DC and other large metro areas on the banks, there's some pretty nasty stuff that I won't touch like condoms and syringes that are pretty common floaters. When I used to wade fish the North Fork of the Shenandoah river, a lot of the access points were shut down due to people completely trashing the areas and I mean everything from a to z left behind, clothing, beer cans, bait containers, dirty diapers, paper plates, fish carcasses and damage from campfires just to name a few. As a result landowners just shut down access. I was fishing a spot with a friend and we collected 4 bags of trash before we started. Unknown to me it was private property and it wasn't long before the Sheriff showed up. Because of the litters, there is a -0- tolerance for trespassing and just as he was getting ready to write me a ticket, he noticed the bags stacked up next to my jeep. He asked what they were and I told him. Instead of writing me the ticket, he thanked me and was going to the landowner to tell him what we did and to make sure that we could get access anytime by letting him know who we were.
  7. Kansas Record Gar, Longnose Ray Schroeder, Topeka 31 lbs., 8 oz - unknown length May 21, 1974 - Perry Reservoir Rod and reel with yellow beetle
  8. If you want to put weight to a wacky presentation, the below hook is made by Gamakatsu and as an added benefit adds more shimmy to the presentation. All of my buddies who wacky rig really like it.
  9. I understand and likewise I took the advise of my independent trailer shop owner. As long as we both are satisfied with the results then no harm no foul. This is the first time I bought the tires from a retail shop and was a little disappointed that they didn't have the proper attachment to be able to balance them with sticky weights. I normally want sticky weights on the inside of the rim because dunking the lead ones in water all the time can rust the clips causing the rim to throw the weight up into the glass fender which can cause damage. I had to settle for the old style mounted on the outside of the rim. I guess I got pretty lucky since most retail tire places won't even mount trailer tires but I have spent a lot of $$ over the years at this location and they did it with no hesitation. Sorry if the pic is upside down, I loaded it regular and it showed upside down so I went back into my file and flipped it and it still loaded upside down.
  10. No dusting with the sidewalk chalk. I discovered it when my daughter was young and she put a broken piece of the chalk in one of my plano boxes. I also spray a light coating of WD40 on my jig/spinnerbaits/frogs to keep the rubber from sticking together or drying out too much.
  11. I don't have rust issues. Since my hooks never go back into the plano I store them in once I take them out to use them, I just give them a good spray of WD40 when I reload the plano box with hooks. For everything else, I'll drop a desiccant pack in the planos if I have some but I also put a chunk of cheap sidewalk chalk in each box. No rust.
  12. Just as frustrating, I have had them rocket out of the livewell when you open the lid to gather them up for weigh in.
  13. 1. Try to learn something every time you go fishing. 2. Learn to appreciate all the other benefits of fishing and not just the catching part.
  14. You would think that I had them in my arsenal for a long time beings as I have been with Yamamoto for 20 years but it took me getting my butt handed to me on the Potomac one trip before I added them. There's just too many to choose from and so many work. I have that color in bulk now.
  15. You want my rant? Why this obsession to throw finesse baits on a baitcaster? Can you do it.....yes, but is there a better tool for the job? I say there is....a spinning rod/reel. It's what it is designed for. The stigma of throwing a spinning setup has long been discredited. If you take your cues from the pro's how many do you see throwing dropshots, ned rigs, senkos, etc., on baitcasters? Not very many and only if they have upsized their weights and taken it out of the finesse category. I love my spinning rods and have an equal number of spinning and casting on my deck every time I go out. Rant over, carry on.
  16. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....................................
  17. My saying is that you can always raise the head and make it shorter but you can't add any length. I run a 45in on my 21ft Ranger, my buddy runs a 52 inch on his 20 foot ranger. He fishes in 2 ft and 20 ft. If you fish big rough water longer is better.
  18. I need to correct something else I said....The oil sensor on my Merc and on my Yamaha are both in the small engine mounted tank, not in the bilge bulk tank. So, the low oil alarm will sound after the bilge tank runs dry and the level in the engine mounted tank starts to drop. There is also special procedures to refill the small tank. It's not just unscrew the cap and add oil. You fill the bulk tank and with your motor running, take the cap off the small tank and let the pump fill the tank to the very top. I even let it overflow just a tad and them put the cap back on. The only reason I am so keyed in on this is because I had a motor that kept throwing a tone and even with my bulk tank full, the small tank would drop about an inch and set off the warning. Found out that my small tank (saddle tank) on the motor had a hairline crack and even though it wasn't leaking it would allow the system to depressurize and the level would drop.
  19. Keep both the plastic lower cowl and the metal mid-section waxed and it will clean easier and not discolor.
  20. Is it threaded or smooth?
  21. Mostly Plano 36-3700 but some specialty ones mixed in for Senko's and deep running cranks, bulk SPRO Little John's, bulk tubes, etc. That's assuming the BPS and Cabela's branded boxes are also Plano made. I have all of the storage in my boat plus I have 3 portable bags always stocked. 1 for Lake fishing, 1 for river fishing and 1 for crappie/panfish. Those 3 bags are for when I go in someone elses boat.
  22. Is there a metal insert in your hull or is it just a thru hole?
  23. And when you try and snap that baitcaster, you are going to relearn what a true birds nest is!! Casting style is what works best for you. I overhead cast unless I am skipping a bait. Loading the rod is a combination of lure weight. rod action and arm motion and it's a balance. You can whip or snap a spinning rod easily but if you do that with a bait caster, you are going to backlash. But as a general rule arching casts are an early release and smacking the water is a late release. If you are trying to do the fancy loop sidearm cast then since your lure is coming up on the release, you are late releasing.
  24. What year and boat do you have?
  25. Personally, I have not seen that insert but you need to measure the size of the hole in your hull. I would convert it to the type I showed if you can. If there is a metal insert in your hull then I would get in touch with your boats manufacturer or google it by brand name to get the proper insert. All of my glass boats have had the one I showed or one like it.
