Just got back from Florida and 90 degree temps. Personally, I wore AFCO, HUK, Mossy Oak, and whatever brand the DIAWA shirts are (I think HUK). No more Mossy Oak for me, it was the hottest of the group. Some wore Columbia PFG and liked it but I find that to be heavy as well. They wear it because they get military and firefighter discounts. We used it not only for the sun but for the millions of teeny tiny grass gnats that would infest every exposed body orifice.?

I only use Gamakatsu EWG in #1 size. I don’t nose hook. I’ve caught 5lb smallmouth and largemouth and have never broken or straightened a hook.

Just got back from Headwaters lake in Fellsmere, FL and it just so happens that there was a husband and wife staying in our group of cabins from Iowa. ?

Google is your friend. There are multiple options available from sit on buckets to portable toilets with pull up tents. If she was smart, she would have made the requirement sleeping quarters!??

This is the second trip to Florida with an attempt to use FFS both were total failures. First was on Okeechobee and the vegetation we fished did not allow any clarity whatsoever and the transducer was nothing more than a grass harvester. The second trip which we just got back from was a week on Headwaters where we were so shallow and in such thick hyacinth, Kissimmee grass, Lilly pads, milfoil, reeds and flooded orange orchard that once again it was useless. We resigned ourselves that before our trip next year we are taking all of the FFS equipment off the boat. Now back here in Virginia in the lakes and rivers we fish it’s wonderful.

I’ve eaten my share of canned tuna both straight out of the can, both water and oil, or made into tuna salad. The absolute best I ever had was when I was detailed to an area of St Louis (Clayton) and there was a place called The Fatted Calf and they had the absolute best tuna steak sandwiches I have ever eaten. I’ve had salmon out of the can but the amount of bones even though they are soft creeps me out. I’ve eaten my share of carp sandwiches from Joe Tess restaurant in Omaha. Bottom line, I do prefer my fish fresh. Well, except for sushi, I do love me some good sushi.?

I’m not a rod builder but have always heard good things about rainshadow blanks.

It sure limits the view if you use spot lock and it mounted to the TM shaft. That’s the problem we have seen. Fishing wind and rivers, we use spot lock a bunch. Most of the serious users have a separate mount and I understand why.

The steer we just took to slaughter had a “butcher sheet” from the processor where you could get the marrow bones, scraps and organs. My daughter opted for all 3 because my wife wanted the bones to make stock, my daughter wanted the scraps for her 3 dogs and my daughter’s roommate wanted the tongue. She is a chef at a 5 star B&B and it is a favorite of hers. As for all of the other organs like liver…..it ain’t happening here. Can’t stand it. Never have never will.

Dealer for my truck (where I bought it new) has been good about doing just the service I need. I am super picky about it and I get my tires rotated free with every oil change and I get free inspections every year. I told them if they ever scratched a rim, my days of bringing it to them would be over. I originally got 12 free oil changes so I figure I’m still ahead. Last oil change I had them put a new ACDelco battery in just because of the age and as the old saying goes, “they never break down in the driveway” and I am leaving for Florida on a fishing trip Sunday. I checked prices and the dealerships price on a new top of the line ACDelco gold battery was better than any of the parts stores lesser batteries. The other advantage is that all of the service records for my truck are at the dealer and if I ever were to trade that helps trade in price. My last truck I traded for this new one in 2016 (2004, 2500 HD) never made it to the lot, one of the mechanics already bought it. The pic is from Wednesday. I keep my trucks spotless as possible, it has 75k on it right now. Also remember the length and quality of your extension cord plays a part in the charging cycle. I had problems getting my 3 TM batteries and my cranking battery up to full charge and it was because my extension cord was to light duty and too long.

I’m confused….in a souse vide, you cook the steak in a vacuum bag which never allows any moisture in and when done you take it out and sear it either on the grill or in a skillet. No additional moisture is added. Only moisture is natural juices which make an excellent crust when seared.

Almost forgot, for you nose hookers that want a bait that is neutral buoyant, the new larger Shad Shape Worm is made with the floating formula.

Odd, I have found that for my truck, the dealer is very close to any other shops in price and the mechanics are pretty good. Always cheaper to do it yourself but I’m pretty much done turning wrenches. Used to be fun, not anymore and I’ll gladly pay someone else as long as they are honest.

A lot of the reverse sear fans use a sous vide method. Personally, I am a grill……preferably chunk charcoal…..or a cast iron skillet, preference.

Yes, the new owner GSM changed the logo and packaging. I assume it will all change over once all of the existing packaging is used up. For now it’s just on the new baits developed under GSM. Little known secret that throughout the years there were formula changes that were identified (mostly) by new packaging. If you have any of the older clear with green solid label or blue solid label, they are a different formula (my favorite btw). Any with solid yellow labels were meant for sale only in Japan. They had their own product line. Yes, Senkos can be bought in bulk and there is no cutting the number of baits down in the regular packaging. Some of the larger baits are packaged fewer but the senko has always been 10 to a package. The ordering code for color 297 for example is 9-10-297. 9 identifies Senko, 10 identifies bait count and 297 is color. Kinami baits (Gary’s son) packaged fewer baits per bag and were cheaper. Those are no longer manufactured

My intense drinking days are long past. The fact that I had a security clearance for most of my working years meant that my embibing was limited to home and close friends. I could not afford a DUI even though at one point I was “politically” required to meet after hours with agency brass at a secure establishment and we all enjoyed what we called “Big Boys” which were grapefruit juice and top shelf vodka. Made for some interesting drives home from DC. Nowadays I like going to the brewery my brother in law is part owner of in St Augustine (Old Coast Ales) and learning the breweing process and trying the different brews. For 20 years we have been going to Lake St Clair and early on I was introduced to Jack and Coke and ever since then I have enjoyed it. I have sampled all of the iterations of Jack including Top Shelf, single Barrel, Sinatra and Sinatra Century. Of course we are on an island and the most we can do is fall in the lake. ?. I enjoy a good Manhattan or Old Fashioned with friends as well. Unless I’m in a rare mood, my drinking is probably 1 or 2 drinks a month. Of course I have an un named friend who makes moonshine so good Popcorn Sutton would be jealous. That is a real treat when I can get it.

The reason you can eat steak rare is that bacteria can’t get to the internal parts of the meat and is killed on the outer when cooked. Hamburger on the other hand is blended and bacteria could be incorporated throughout the cut of meat. According to Delighted Cooking, most of the bacteria in a steak will accumulate on its exterior surface. While it's possible that some may have penetrated the meat's interior, it isn't very likely that it will be enough to get you sick.Sep 4, 2022
