Slow Trolling for Crappie - Depth Control
Interesting. I’ll experiment and try that. Post spawn at the reservoirs I frequent for crappie still are murky from the spring run off. Fall is a different story with clearer water.

Slow Trolling for Crappie - Depth Control
Good point. I have some mojo rig sinkers and Carolina keepers that would do the trick. Keeping it in that 25’ zone would be trial and error still

Slow Trolling for Crappie - Depth Control
I absolutely agree. A spider system on a kayak would be a sight to see LOL! Vertical and slow drift it is. Thanks

Slow Trolling for Crappie - Depth Control
1/8 oz would help or tandem 1/16 oz like you pointed out. Maybe I should just video game em and fish vertically

Slow Trolling for Crappie - Depth Control
Lure: 1/16 oz jighead w/ 2" Kalin's grub Line: 6# FC Sniper Fluorocarbon Scenario: In my kayak, start marking schools of stacked crappie suspended at 25'. If I'm paddling very slowly, say 1 mph as a guesstimate, how much line would I have to let out to stay in that 25' depth zone? Sounds like a math problem to solve, but the answer can't be "not enough information". I understand that variables such as: line diameter, line type, how much line is out, speed, lure size, and other nuances all attribute to variances, but is there a general rule that can get me in the proximity? I can vertically let out line and get pretty accurate to the 25' mark and use a slip bobber stopper to use that as a bench line; however, the moment I start to slowly paddle, the entire presentation is going to quickly rise within the water column. Thanks in advance for the replies, but I'm really struggling.

Your best bluegill imitation lures
Which is why my answer to the OP's question is a 4" Green Pumpkin w/ Black FLK (#297) Senko, wacky-rigged.

What lure caught your biggest bass in 2017 ?
I fish a lot at night, so I can see the black blue combo being lethal. Maybe my next PB will come from this 'bump in the night'. Great tips, brother thanks! I would've NEVER thought of that for a trailer.

I would've never thought to use that modified lizard as a chatterbait trailer. Style points right there!

Atomic Tubes - Amazing for Small Bass
One of my favorite Crappie and stocker Trout soft baits I use them on a slip bobber rig and grasshopper is my favorite pattern. When my brother came back from Service in Afghanistan, I took him to a mountain lake with that rig. He lost count after 20......

Guess the Weight- Channel Cat from NM
I came across these pics from years ago. It’s a Channel Cat that I landed from Shady Lakes - little Bass ponds located in Albuquerque, NM. Caught this beast using trout guts. Any guess to it’s weight? Never measured it. I’m guessing 12-14 lbs.

Which MegaStrike?
This helps a lot thanks! I was caking it on which explained why it was all globbed up.

Which MegaStrike?
I put a bunch of megastrike original gel on SK Bitsy Bug and chunk trailer last night. I noticed that the skirts didn’t flare underwater because the gel made the skirted materials bunch together; consequently eliminating that flaring undulating effect. Any one else experience this before?

What lure or lure type have you all caught the most bass with this winter?
I'll echo that statement. I caught two LMB last Sunday off a chartreuse roostertail.

ned rig and slider similarities
I fish a lot at night from the bank so my average depths hover in the 6-7 ft range. In the post spawn, I countdown 2 seconds before retrieving most of the time. I fish grubs year-round and slow roll them off the bottom in winter to pre-spawn periods. Last year, late in the post spawn, the wake bite was on fire for a 3 week window. I used the lightest underspin I could find and held my rod tip high to have my grubs swim just inches below surface. The tails would create a subtle wake, which was key for these highly pressured ponds. I never got a single strike from noisy topwater lures like buzzbaits, whopper ploppers, list goes on. With the exception of the Manns One-Minus, it dawned on me that I had to go with soft plastics that resembled more natural movements to imitate the threadfin shad. Sexy lures like the Pompadour Jr., are too loud and obnoxious for these urban ponds that get beat everyday. This year, I'm going to experiment with swim senkos and ultravibe speed worms for that subsurface bite. 3/0 Owner Flashy Swimmer with CPS mated with a 3.5' RI Little Dipper (Pearl Blue Shad below) did wonders for me last Late Summer/Early Fall for suspended fish. If you're a grub fan, use the same hook and pair it with a Kalin's Lunker Grub (Blue Pearl w/ S&P) and that worked very well too.

ned rig and slider similarities
I was in the exact same boat as you are, last year, around this time. I did a lot of research on Charlie Brewer's techniques. So,I experimented with the slider pro heads during pre-spawn and did exceptionally well with a Zoom Finesse Worm (Junebug). A majority of the fish nailed it on the initial descent. The slider head design allows it to glide seductively on a very slow fall and the LMB couldn't resist. Another good worm for an alternative action is a black 4" Berkley Power Worm. Both encompass a similar body profile; but the ribbon tail gives it some 'swagger' as there are some nights where that just got bit more than the ultra-finesse, dead sticking (at times) methods associated with the finesse worm. Fast forward to the post-spawn, when the bass preferred moving targets, I would simply swap out the worm for a grub and swim it back on the same slider head with much success. If weeds started to form, then using the spider slider head gave me a weedless presentation. I'm a huge advocate as you can tell!

4 lb LMB caught late summer on a weightless Zoom Trick Worm in Candy Bug. I can't break #5 :/

NEW MEXICO LARGIE FISHING HELP!
@corbass101 I'm from Denver and learned to bass fish there. Have you ever tried Rocky Mountain Arsenal or Lowell Ponds? Good memories from those old stomping grounds. If you don't mind white bass, throw some white bomber crankbaits around the islands at Elephant Butte! It's a consistent pattern down there. The walleye fishing below the Butte is amazing and extremely underrated.

Do I Need a Froggin' Rod?
Great..... because I’m already a fishing junkie. Catfishing was a gateway drug to crappie ultralight fishing that led to fly fishing that led to bass fishing that led to kayak angling. Too many pleasures and not enough free time! Since there is no limit to dumb questions on this forum, last one. In Arizona, I see occastion desert ‘toads’but definitely not frogs. Can a region without a frog population still have potential for a good froggin bite?
