  1. 2.5 year old thread, but any updates on the assassin. Bought 3 spools of it and am curious if I messed up by not getting sniper. 12Lb for finesse jigs and senkos. 17Lb for jigs in cover&docks. And 20Lb for heavy pitching in cover.
  2. In the 40's with rain yesterday-tomorrow. Then a heat wave of 55 to end theweek. Still not enough to melt the 6" of ice of the lakes
  3. 50Lb braid on the first. 12Lb yo-zuri hybrid on the second. 50Lb isn't too heavy for bass and braid casts easiest out of all line types. It is also the most abrasion prone but for fishing around moderate-heavy grass and pads it's the only choice. It also we tangles easily and is fairly inexpensive.
  4. Guys fish in 20' glitter covered bass boats in gin clear water and do just fine. But I would just rattle can it if you feel necessary
  5. Just because your rod says it can handle x lbs of line doesn't mean it breaks at this point. Youd be surprised how hard if is to pick up a half gallon milk jug straight off the ground using a heavy power rod. It feel like it's going to break and that's only 4lbs.
  6. i can swim in ideal conditions. Don't wear pfd While fishing. We aren't in a body of water over 90 acres and we are the only boat out there ever. Don't have to worry about much. Use the 25hp motor and our top speed is less than 20mph for no more than a 4 minute boat ride. If I fished bigger bodies of water I'd consider it when using the outboard. But it would probably be one of those things that I would use for about 3 fishing trips then get stuffed in a compartment somewhere
  7. Casting is more in the rod and mechanics than it is the reel. I have $30 reels that can cast with the best of them. While my $200 retail sv tw is idiot proof and great for skipping, it isn't my furthest caster. But I don't expect it to be. I bought it to skip, pitch, and for short underhand casts with jigs.
  8. I use a 7'6 denali rosewood for my lipped baits up to 5xd size. Cheap 7ft mh moderate/fast for lipless and square bills up to 1/2 ounce. 7'5 cabelas zx crankshaft for baits 3/4 up to 1.25 ounces. The cabelas rods are great and on clearance right now for 70 bucks. Daiwa fuegos with 6.3 gear ratio is what I use as far as reels go. 10-15lb seaguar senshi.
  9. I bought a super cheap pflueger about 15 years ago from walmart. Abused the snot out of it. To the point where the drag stayed locked, spool tension was always free spool and the brakes had no effect. 15 years of hard abuse from a 12-27 year old and it still casted great and retrieved my lures perfectly. Caught some giant indiana bass/catfish/gar on it. Finally a knob fell off the handle so I retired it. Solid choice in my opinion. Add: I never cleaned or maintenanced the reel in the slightest bit.
  10. I've read that it's hard to tell the difference in abrazx and red label. Invizx is very supple and easy handling. Also has a good amount of stretch. Red label is great for the price but I think invizx is definitely a better choice. I just ordered some sunline assassin will review after time in the water
  11. I'd just get bone and loon. You know what those colors are already without debating whether to get them. But I'd consider the "Orange crush" and very versatile color. Could be used for low light conditions as well as normal lighting conditions. clean water and muddy water.
  12. The one thing I'm dreading about having my own boat one day is learning to see what this stuff is. Looks like abstract art
  13. I highly doubt you are over pressuring it. We fish a few 80 acre lakes and catch the same multiple big fish multiple times a year sometimes. We tag them. We went through a 1.5 year phase where We didn't land a bass over 5lbs and were catching a lot of 15-17 inch fish that were maybe 10-12oz. Skinny as a rail. We removed 300 eater crappie and 100 small bass that next year. We have had multiple 20lb limits since doing so. Which is a big bag for indiana. We still keep about 30-45 small bass and around 150 crappie each year and the fishing keeps getting better and better. I would say it was an off year and maybe some small fish need to be relocated to the dinner plate.
  14. Yes it is busy. I used to work for a municipality and between plowing, making water, and fixing water lines we stayed busy december-february
  15. I just went and bought 6 Will report back.
  16. How cold is it where you live?
  17. Hook size both length and gauge of wire. Also hook gap. Distance between the shank and hook point. Imo it's much more likely to have a bass skin hooked on a small treble or drop shot hook than on a regular worm/ewg/flipping hook. Also treble/multi hooked baits are moving baits and are prone to having a bass "slap" at them. So a good percentage of the time the bass will have trebled both inside and outside of its mouth and you won't have a great hookup which in turn the moderate rod stays loaded easier helping the hooks stay pinned when a fish head shakes or jumps or surges at the boat/bank.
  18. I'll mention something about moderate actions being nice for cranks besides tearing out hooks or fighting fish. You can load a moderate action rod more and easier on your back cast with lighter lures resulting in longer distances if your casting mechanics are good. They key for cranking is depth and the longer cast you can make the deeper it will dive. With that said, most Crankbaits cast well these days but if you are fighting wind or really need that extra distance/depth a moderate action will help you out.
  19. No country for old men.
  20. Not to get all mushy or anything but presents don't really do it for me. Like you said, if men want something, we go buy it. Some of my favorite "gifts" from my wife have been homemade dinners, a good bottle of (wine for us) whatever you like to drink, hanging at the house with not a care in the world, and going to bed early with our kids staying at one of our parents. So I think if you could do something like that and then get him a card with a hand written piece in there about how thankful you are for your Christmas present. That would mean a lot more to me than a $200 gift card. Men are simple, feed em, water em, rub their belly, and tell them they are a good boy. Another bonus to that is that since you are on a budget, it's saving stress on you for worrying about your budget or if you got him enough. I hate stressing about money As I'm sure the majority of people in the world do as well
  21. They did something similar to me because I had used a few different adresses because I have my rods and reels shipped to my parents house, my tackle shipped to my house, and bought a gift for someone and had it shipped to them. I placed a 400 dollar order and it got put on hold for "security reasons" even though I could list every item I tried to order plus my debit card number without hesitation. They wanted to charge me a security charge and for me to check my bank acct and call them back with the exact amount of the mystery charge. Haven't ordered from them since.
  22. I say we put them on the Maury Povich show if we are doing DNA tests!
  23. In your opinion, what size does a northern strain LMB, smallmouth, and spotted bass need to be to be comparable to a 10Lb FLMB? where i fish, we only have northern strain. So I would say a 7.5Lb would be equal to a 10Lb flmb. I cannot speak to the other 2 types as I have never seen or fished for these types of bass. Curious to hear what people say.
  24. When was your last DD? do you still fish "numbers"? Or are you only after that 20lber?
