  1. Berkley havoc grass pig and grass pig Jr. Cheap and work well
  2. I have lews, daiwa, shimano, and cabelas reels. The attention to detail in the shimano and daiwa are amazing. That being said. Different strokes for different folks. I purchased a while no to get out of my comfort zone of daiwa. Was not disappointed 1 but. And is still a main stay in my arsenal on my second favorite combo. But if I had the chance to trade my curado for a tatula ct in the same gear ratio id do it in a heart beat. Not because I don't like the reel or because it isn't as "good" of a reel, i just simply prefer my daiwas.
  3. It's great shortly after ice out as well. Slow rolling a 1/2 or 3/4 ounce shad patterned spinner bait with a white or pearl 5 inch swimbait bouncing off the bottom.
  4. I'd say you'll be just fine with that reel. I don't think there is a set weight that requires a more expensive reel. As long as you have the line capacity, That you're happy with I'd say let er rip tater chip I'd say you'll be just fine with that reel. 5. And then report back here on what he says lol. I'm about due for some jigs.
  6. Hopefully you ordered a black on black fogy. That thing is money!
  7. I feel like you can carolina rig almost any plastic. I think itd work good on a c-rig
  8. Had some down time at work and came across this thread. So like the numbers geek that I am, I added up and categorized most of the pbs (didn't know what some of the baits were, and if multiple ones I just used the first one listed.) it breaks down like this Jig/swimjig- 25 Crankbaits- 19 Worms (not senko style)- 16 Senko style worms- 15 Frog/Toad- 12 Popper/spook- 7 Jerkbait- 7 Craw style baits- 7 Big swimbait- 5 Spinnerbait- 5 Lizzard- 5 Chatterbait- 4 Small swimbait- 4 Dropshot- 3 Brush Hog- 3 Tube- 2 Buzzbait- 2 Fluke- 1 A-rig- 1 NED rig- 1
  9. I always use a trailer on a spinnerbait as well. 4"-5" swimbait.
  10. And actually I just wrote a long review of this rod a few hrs ago in here
  11. That's awesome. I love taking my 9 year old daughter. Especially when she starts asking questions like "why don't you have a bobber?" and "WHY WONT THIS STUPID CATFISH EAT THE BREAD!"
  12. I've never fished a 746 dobyns, but do have a 7"4H falcon Bucoo sr that I have a tatula ct in and love it for flipping and jig fishing. $130 bucks I think
  13. I second the bucoo. Just wrote a long review about it on here. Although it was the 7'4 heavy. Still would have the same build quality and components
  14. First I would like to say that this is an unbiased review and I paid retail for all the equipment used (minus the baits, memorial day sale). I was in the market for a new jig rod. One that I would use to throw 3/8 and 1/2 ounce jigs, my favorite way to fish. Previously I had used a lews tp1 speed stick 7' mh. And while this rod was good at the task I had asked it to do, I felt like I could get a better rod (for me and my style of fishing) for roughly the same amount of money. So I went out of my comfort zone and purchased the Falcon Bucoo SR 7'4H. Slapped on one of my tatula ct reels and spooled some 50lb braid. This rod has performed flawlessly in the time I have fished it. I have only thrown the jigs+trailers listed previously in the post. The rod itself is very lightweight and balances well with the reel I have mounted on it. It is approximately 80% backbone 20% tip. Which I really like. Since I've rambled on enough I Will list the pros and cons now. Pros -the rod looks good, nice matte gray color, not too flashy. -build quality is great. Guides were all aligned. Epoxy work was quality. -good hook keeper. Not sure what it's called but it's the kind you don't have to remove your plastic from your hook to hook it on. -although I prefer cork, the Eva foam grips are firm and not slippery like some other eva I have used. -physical weight. Much lighter than my other heavy or medium heavy rods. -soft tip, strong backbone. What I want when I'm throwing a jig. -price, just over the $100 Mark at full retail. I would've paid $175 for this rod. -versatility, if needed I could use this rod for Texas rigs, spinnerbaits, swimjigs, and chatterbaits. I especially think it would be a great swim jig rod. Cons -eva foam grips (personal preference) -gray grips, could get dirtier faster if you like to keep your stuff squeaky clean. (doesn't bother me) -rod power, although I think I have found my perfect budget jig rod, I did feel like this heavy was more of a mag medium heavy. -price, just over $100 Which could turn some budget fisherman away. -not made in America, falcon was known for this and this model was the first one to be made outside of the US I believe. All in all I feel like I got a good deal on a great rod. I do not regret my purchase and more than likely will purchase another falcon product when needed or my wife isn't looking. If anybody is curious about this rod or has any questions don't hesitate to send me a pm or reply id be glad to help someone out.
  15. My 10 point from 2014. Shot him at 45 yards with my bow. One of my favorite memories of hunting.
  16. Completely spaced my mind! Catt coming in late with the win!
  17. Enjoyable weekend. Caught a few on a neko rig Saturday morning, then took my step daughter out Saturday after noon. Ended up with 4 channel cats, 2 bluegill, and I stuck 2 on a jig. Hoping to get out to one of my big fish factories this Saturday.
  18. Turning loose a personal best (that won me 500 bucks) back into the water to get even bigger. Especially since I thought she'd struggle after being in the live well for 8 hrs. But she swam off strong as could be.
  19. Very similar reels. Get the one you can get the best deal on
  20. 6'6 or 7' medium or medium heavy Berkley lightning shock rod. The longer length will increase casting distance and give you more versatility since I'm guessing you won't have a lot of combos.
  21. The reason for the royale legend Is because it is only like 33 bucks and is a work horse. I have 3. 1 on my frog rod, 1 For burning spinnerbaits/swimjigs/rattle traps, and 1 I keep spooled up in my tackle bag in case I have a reel fail on me during a tourney. The less you spend on a reel the more you can spend on a rod or line/tackle
  22. Berkley lightning shock rod. Kastking royale legend. Id suggest a longer rod btw. Maybe a 6'6 medium or medium heavy.
  23. 1/4 oz sniper jigs from seibert outdoors (site sponsor) 3/8 and 1/2 I use terminator jigs. I use rage menace, rage craw, and the yum f2 craw chunk and when I want less action I will thread on up to a 7" senko and use that as a trailer. Depending on the bulk/length I want. @Dorado
  24. Jig/craw. I'd go look for laydowns and Standing timber. 7'4 H falcon bucoo rod, daiwa tatula ct, 50Lb braid, 17Lb p-line cxx leader. My absolute favorite combo with my favorite way to fish. Don't leave home without it. As long As the lake isn't frozen solid I feel like I could catch a fish everyday on this technique.
