  1. You will backlash and when that happens a crochet needle is what I found to be the best tool to use. They are cheap and have a rounded point so it wont dig between braid and some have a pointed end. Can be found in the craft section of Walmart or stores like Joanne Fabrics or Michael's and of course online.
  2. Michael Neal is a stud but arguably not the best fisherman in his own family. His uncle Rogne Brown has been one of the most sought after guides on the chick. Catching a 49lb bag will do that.
  3. It's got everything ... including sand bars that Birge happened to find ? Only thing to slow him down the last 2 days
  4. Only you know what type of water you are fishing. I sold the glass boat and kept the tin one. I've got no regrets as the Crestliner takes me where I need to go. However, I do have a tourney partner that has Bass Cat we use for tourneys
  5. hahahahhaaa ... yeah sometimes I'm that stoopid I thought it was a plus and showed 2 different ways to do it. I've also used the feet of the guide
  6. I always thought I'd damage the guide eye by hooking to it, if not the first time maybe after several years of use it would. But never tried it. I've got a couple older rods where braid has worn grooves into the guide, so a hook .... not gonna test it
  7. My tourney partner uses these and likes them https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Fuji_Ez_Keeper/descpage-FUJIEZK.html Not sure about others but I cast right and reel left That means after I cast/pitch my bait out and want it to fall on slack line, I pull the line out with my left hand. If the bait keeper is on the left hand side of the rod, the line will often get caught in the keeper. so I avoid rods with keepers on the left hand side. Most times I'll hook the bait to the holes in the reel handle As my rods lay on the deck, I can see what bait is on what rod.(not that that helps you in a yak)
  8. I started with live bait and a slip bobber (the slip bobber was accidental as I didn't know I was missing the lead insert that went inside the bobber. lol) My dad fished a purple w/firetail mister twister all the time. Slow and steady - slow and steady ....zzz..zzz.. zzz , not really the style for me As I got into fishing more seriously, I started using crankbaits. Since I was a hyper kid most of the time I'd cast it out and burn it back. I remember him telling me I wasn't going to catch fish reeling that fast ... just as I had a 3 lber about rip the rod out of my hands. I didn't understand the different bill shapes and sizes so i stumbled into one with a larger bill. Now when I burned it back it would dig into the bottom. I then learned that when doing this if it hit something solid, a lot of times I'd get a bite. I then started reading every bassmaster or in-fisherman article on crankbaits I could get. That knowledge added to my real life experiences with the crankbaits allowed me to become a better skilled crankbait fisherman(IMO) and gave me the building blocks to locating fish. Personality matters too. My dad now fishes a jig the majority of his trips and I fish a toad. He's still slow and steady and I'm still hyper We both still catch fish and I am so grateful he was my guide in those early years and my partner in the later years
  9. Soooooo, guess I was wrong about this. They already have coverage rolling with the after show guy(Steve something or other) and Rob Newell i'm guessing at 9:30am the regular hosts will be taking over
  10. End of the season BPT championship is being held on the Mississippi River out of LaCrosse Wisconsin. The live show starts at 9:30am, like always on the BPT we'll be missing the morning action as the tourney starts at 7am. Who you got winning? I'm gonna go with Ott even after his heart surgery https://majorleaguefishing.com/ Also- just My opinion but this has to be one of the worst names for a championship event
  11. I watched quite a bit of the FLW live on Friday and appreciated your insight. Truth be told, I thought you sounded better than the hosts. Thanks for the behind the scenes look too
  12. Depending on the lay of the land you could have steep drop offs during draw down
  13. I live around the corner from Norris Lake about 2 minutes and 2 left turns from where I put in at. They drop the water 20 feet every year. It is like having several different lakes throughout the year. My in-laws live on the water and have a covered dock they move with the water dropping/rising to a point. They keep their Sea Ray in the dock all summer. There are 2 small towns about 20 minutes away from me and I'm about an hour outside of Knoxville. My area is more rural but being on the lake means that May-Sept is busy. My mom moved to Hampton TN, which is right near Watauga lake and an Appalachian trailhead. South Holston lake isn't too far from there and both are gorgeous lakes. The further east you go it becomes more mountainous. Dandridge is a very nice town and Douglas is a great lake. I agree with the people being nice as can be.
  14. Most of the time when I fished the western side of lake erie, it was near the bass, kelleys or rattlesnake islands. Draggin a tube or fishing a drop shot were our choices 3in gulp fry worm in green pumpkin or poor boys erie darter were most used baits Fished one tourney there with a pretty stiff north wind and managed 3rd place by weighing in 17 lbs of largemouth inside of the Sandusky Bay. Be careful as it can get rough quickly out there Good luck and cant wait to hear how it went!!
  15. Make sure to get your picks in. Tourney starts tomorrow but the launch does not start until 9am and weigh ins are at 5pm https://www.bassmaster.com/jesse-tacoronte/late-launch-changes-strategies-st-lawrence-river-elite
  16. A wife's ramblings?
  17. Those are the benefits of being the big fish in a small pond. He also fishes Costa events just to prove he can beat guys at all the lower levels. Of course, I am just joking as the man is an absolute beast on the FLW tour I watched some of FLW live. It's better now but its still 3rd out of the live broadcasts IMO
  18. Isn't there some type of setting that allows you to record in segments? It records for 10 minutes and if you dont save that data, it starts recording over it.?
  19. A couple of lessons I've learned over the years resurfaced recently: I have better success targeting the shade spots on the sunny side of the bank than the shady bank. When fishing a topwater and you pass your target and then begin to quickly reel in to make your next cast; kill the bait a few feet from the boat before making another cast. This has led to countless numbers of awesome explosions right near the boat
  20. When I'm approaching the weeds, i'll be throwing the frog along the outside edges and in or around some holes in the mats closer to the edge. If no takers, I'll move into the heavier stuff to flip I have never just started flipping in the middle of the dense mats, its always hit the edges as I creep closer.
  21. I also pitched for my college baseball team and never, ever stepped on the baseline when going to the mound or dugout. It didn't help, though. I got rocked more often than not. I had a pitcher explain to me how unlucky this was to do. So I did just the opposite. I always stepped on the line on the way out and on the way in. I told him I'd do it, so all the bad luck came my way and he could concentrate on pitching. (of all positions on a diamond the pitcher is the one with the greatest possibility of being a head case)
  22. I'd throw a toad thru the grass and at the end of that lay down probably a popping frog too in the openings Might even have to flip a senko into the laydown. Id also wear camo and duck beneath that row of bushes in front so I wouldn't spook em
  23. Congrats on the 2 dream jobs!!
  24. Some knots seem to give people issues when using braid. Make sure the knots are pulled tight and leave a little extra tag end. This way you can eliminate the knot as a possible point of failure. I have casted off a few lures using lighter braid, a heavier lure and a whippy rod. However, my casts resembled attempts to break the worlds longest cast record.
