When do you use what bait
I'd be covering water fishing a toad most of the time followed up with pitching a senko reverse rigged. I would also mix in a walking topwater bait on any points that have current hitting them. Why, for me the topwater bite is the most exciting and that s what I'm chasing. If I was tournament fishing I'd be looking at the points extending into the main channel, places where the current breaks, the ends of bluff walls and I'd be spending 90% of my time on the main channel trying to find these places and not in the backs of creeks.

Time travel to 1973 classic, how would we do?
I think that those older tourney guys laid the ground work for today's tournament anglers. Just like my son has the benefit of the knowledge that has been passed down from my grandpa to my dad then to me and finally to him. My son has been learning to read sonar and side imaging since he was 5. You don't think he has an understanding why all those fish are stacked at the end of that point? He has been studying about seasonal patterns for 5 years and he still isn't old enough to drive. He can quickly soak in much more information watching youtube videos than I was able to do waiting for my next issue of bassmaster to come. So he's learned how to tie a snell knot and knows what situation to use it in, he can pitch, flip and skip, he can tie a split shot, drop shot or carolina rig. The kid has more knowledge and skills at 15 than I did at 35. And he still spends way too much time on the computer/playing video games.

How long have you been fishing?
A little over 40 years. I remember taping my 2 piece rod to my bmx riding about 30 minutes to the river where we would catch crawfish and hellgrammites, then take them to the sand pit to catch bass. My dad's company owned this property in southern ohio with a lake and a pond. The "adults" would get drunk, row out to the middle with their catfish lines and drop them for the night. Many mornings i'd wake up early, to reel in the fish they caught overnight. One time I got 5 different rods tangled by trying to reel in a big catfish on one of them. Caught a pretty good spanking over that

It was the live leaderboard, so at the time they were in second. Looks like they had a little rally to put them in first come weigh in time

FLW championship
Looks like @everythingthatswims is up to his old tricks. He and his partner are unofficially in second place in the college championship associated with FLW. Tournament is still ongoing. Good luck to him and his partner this week!!

The Fallout ~
Yet, he asked if he could catch fish off the bottom. As hostile as his replies were he still would get good advice.

lure retriever
I own 2 of the bill dance kind. I've had to use my 2nd lure retriever to knock free my first one before. I like that it comes with the small chains as often thats what catches and allows it to come free. This should be a piece of standard equipment on any boat as they really do save you money.

Would anyone like to share their Favorite lure.....
I would say a toad bait, specifically the keitech noisy flapper. I can rig it weedless and toss it around any type of cover, docks, laydowns, rip rap .. .. ... I'll take a toad bite over 10 senko bites everyday, except tournament day

So far this season what has been everyone’s most productive lures?

Lose one...buy two to replace it.
A couple years ago I found a shower blows topwater bait floating in the shallows. It became one of my favorite topwaters. I ended up smacking it off the trolling motor head( I do this at least once a trip) and breaking it in 2. So I had to buy another at about 20 bucks. Fearful of losing that one, I found some "blanks" for around 2 bucks a piece. No air brush for me so I painted them with some nail polish, threw some hardware on them and .... ... ... Now I have enough nail polish to make a kardashian jealous, i have bought about 20 different blanks from poppers, deep divers, jerk baits and topwaters, I had to buy split rings and hooks ..... add those costs to the plastisol, color, glitter and molds I made/bought to "save" money by making my own soft plastics Sometimes it's just better to pay the bait monkey instead of trying to find ways to get around him.

Scratch tickets
At least you are making an effort and it may jump start someone else to do something too!! I have removed 21 walmart bags and 2 kitchen sized trash bags just this year. Last year I only collected 50 walmart bags, so i'm on a record setting pace this year!! (I only starting keeping track last year although i've been doing it for about 10 years) A few years ago I saw a father/son out one day and they saw me scooping up trash in a cove with my net. We talked for a few minutes about how it's not getting any better but I like doing what I can to help. Fast forward to the end of last year and I saw the dad at a community clean up event at the lake. His son is now a high school freshman and organized it with the help of his school and church. I feel like one bag did make a difference.

Towing 101
I was putting away Christmas decorations and knocked a 2X8 off the rafters and it smashed the gauges on my console. So not even in the garage is safe from me. lol

Plastisol
I've only been through 2 gallons of lurecraft and this is my first of the bait plastics, so I'm no expert. I have not noticed anymore bubbles than what I had with lurecraft. I have not noticed anything remarkably different either. However, my next gallon will be Dead On as I've read some good reviews on it. How's it working for you?

A Real Bass Fisherman
This is funny to me because I see it a little differently. Tourney fishing has opened my eyes to a bunch of guys that have very expensive boats, all the fancy gear and know all the latest bait crazes. Yet, they cant catch fish and donate their entry fee each and every tourney.(thank you, btw) But they love driving up and down the lake at 70MPH and hanging in the parking lot trying to show and tell or talk fishing with anyone that will listen. So when I see the guy in the canoe or the guy in the john boat I have the utmost respect as I feel they are more about being a bass fisherman than acting like one

Those temperatures remind me of cutting weight for wrestling ... The times I had to wear a neoprene suit, riding an exercise bike in the sauna I'm sure the mosquitos are tiny and tame too

MLF has become a dink fest
I'm interested in seeing the discovery channels version of each event. If they can draw in casual fans then the BPT will explode. At the classic one of the guys associated with BASS U was talking to another guy that was with Power Pole. They were making the comparison of a baitmaker getting his product on the shelves at the local bait shop VS the guy that gets his baits sold at Walmart. For one the potential growth could be limitless.

Your general approach on Tournament Day?
My gameplan is usually in place the night before based on prefishing. While I'm prefishing I look to establish a pattern or areas that are holding fish. Sometimes the pattern can be running docks, fishing points, flipping bushes or cranking transition areas. If I can establish a pattern then I'll target the very best spot to catch the largest fish in that pattern first thing in the morning. If I cannot determine a pattern, I try to find areas where I have caught multiple fish but haven't narrowed down a location or technique. Then I will try to break down these areas that are holding fish to become more efficient. Sometimes all my prefishing does is established where they are not. hahahahaa Some guys try to catch 5 quick ones and then spend the rest of the day trying to catch a kicker. I do the opposite as there have been several times I cashed a check by throwing a spinning rod the last hour to catch 2 small ones to fill my limit. I've also only weighed in 3 fish before too, so its still a gamble

Post a photo a day!
Perfect time to run that fence post pattern!!
