  1. I use the same gear because I'm throwing into the same cover.
  2. I have both the Spicy and the Sweet Beavers. Love them.
  3. I'd say an Arky would be closest to a do it all jig. I only have two types.......well three. Arky Swim Punching
  4. I set it all the way down and turn it 1/4 turn back. Except when fishing slop, then it's all the way down. Haven't had a problem yet.
  5. Single hook baits I think I'll use are tied on the night before. Treble baits when I get to the water.
  6. I have a Bonafide SS127 with a Bixby motor on the rudder. The seat of the SS is almost like sitting in a recliner. Plus I can stand to fish, stretch my legs, without any issues at all. With all that and my gear I can pull into a parking lot and park, put the yak on my cart and wheel it down to the water and be fishing in 10 minutes without rushing. All my gear is kept on the kayak, I only have to attach the motor to the rudder which takes less than a minute, and put my rods in the holders. One of my favorite spots to fish is a small quarry that is right next to a ramp/parking lot for one of the most popular fishing lakes in northern Illinois. When I'm fishing there I can hear conversations from the parking lot. Due to the trees most people probably don't even realize the quarry is there. You can't get a boat to it and there's no ramp. Just a small path from the gravel road to an opening in the trees about feet wide.
  7. I'd really like to have a boat. I do love my kayak though. Ease of storage, transport, access to more water. Cost to run and maintain. Yes my kayak and all the bells and whistles I've installed do add up on $$'s but now that I have it my cost per trip is $0.
  8. This time of year I'd rather throw a medium diving crankbait than a shallow. For me I will use them when the water is deep enough or vegetation is deep enough to not get all tangled in the mess. On summer days I'm all about getting my lure out of the sun. If I can get below the penetration line with a medium that's perfect. Or along shaded sides of vegetation and shoreline. In all honesty the best way to figure it out is have one tied on all the time and throw it when you can, see if it works.
  9. My last two times out at my favorite spot they've been busting shad on or near the surface in 20 feet of water. The ONLY thing that has worked is underspins. I tried cranks to mix it up but they won't touch them.
  10. I used to have an arsenal of St. Croix AvidX's and loved them. Not a fan of the microguides but not a deal breaker. The only reason I don't have them anymore is I made the mistake of buying a MegaBass Orochi XX.....now I have a bunch of those. LOL
  11. Not to me but my son ordered a budget Abu Garcia baitcasting/rod combo from Amazon and received two of them in separate packages on back to back days. He emailed them, they said keep it. I don't know if the order was fulfilled by Amazon or Amazon was the storefront for another company but either way he got two for one .
  12. My experience using squarebills in summer is usually catching bass on the smaller end of the range.
  13. I should also add I'm sitting in my kayak during this. It's not like I'm putting my hips into it and doing a 180 with my torso. LOL And I have seen people do that on YouTube too.......
  14. When I'm fishing jigs, especially now, it's usually fairly deep water. With the flex of the rod I doubt the force of my set is transferred directly to the bass. With a thicker hook and a weed guard I want it set. I can tell you I've lost some with a lesser hookset. Have I tore any out of a basses mouth? Who knows, if I did they didn't make it to the boat. I can also say that the ones landed don't appear to have a bigger hole from the hook than any other single hook lure.
  15. The first incident with the kid you handled fine. I see nothing wrong with educating someone on fishing etiquette. The other couple I would have asked them for a little space. I'm not a fan of just letting people do whatever they want, especially if they're in the wrong. Would I let it escalate to a fist fight? Of course not, but I'm also not one to just be pushed aside without a polite discussion. I guess you'd correctly assume I'm a Type A personality. LOL
  16. I'm not new and I very rarely, as in pretty much never, cast weightless so I'm curious why you think this?
  17. I was out today and caught 9 on a jig. I'm a big guy, played D1 football and competed in powerlifting on a national level. When I set the hook I cross their eyes! LOL I was actually thinking on my drive home today how setting the hook on a jig is euphoric to me! My far and away favorite way to catch a bass.
  18. I opt for a 6:3.1 also, for the same reason as above. I find it easier to reel faster than to reel slower.
  19. Are you using bigger/thicker hooks? I set the hook on my swim jigs but not as hard as on my non swim jigs.
  20. My MH/Fast rods are spooled with 30 lb Sufix 832. I use 12 lb mono leader on some, no leader on others.
  21. I second "In Pursuit of Giant Bass". It took me awhile to find a copy though.
  22. My high end reels cost in the low $200's. I can tell you I enjoy them more than my reels from $100-$150. Smoother, better casting, easier skipping. They all land fish the same though.
  23. Me too. Three different colored swim jigs, two different colored Extreme Arky, three of each.
  24. I have the YakAttack net but don't use it. I like the actual "net" part but the handle is cumbersome to store in a accessible spot on my kayak without getting in the way for everything else. That being said, I absolutely love it's rubber coated, large mesh net. The large mesh is much better than a small mesh rubberized net as far as hooks getting tangled in it. I currently use an Ego S1 Genesis Kryptek and love it.
  25. No worries here. I'm all for posting questions. Perceptions change, ideas change, people with different thoughts join the forum. I'm of the party that says ask away! There is literally no question or topic that hasn't been covered at some point but what's the point of the forum if all we do is use the search function and not have more discussion. I think those who's input is, "Use the search function" can just as easily skip over that topic. It would actually take less of their time than posting their response.
