  1. After spending way too much time looking at the Lowrance Elite 7 Ti2 and the Garmin Echomap UHD 73 sv side my side I pulled the trigger on the Garmin. The imaging seemed a little crisper and the transducer is a little smaller. I really wanted the Fish Reveal of the Lowrance but it wasn't enough to overcome the Garmin. Now I just need the water to be ice free.........lol
  2. I can only tell you that in a quarry I fish a lot I've caught my two biggest bass there in the early spring in 22-24 feet of water. They were at the bottom of a steep drop off and there is cover in the form of vegetation. This vegetation gets quite thick in the summer. But it also has structure in the drop off. Now the water in this quarry is VERY clear. I can also tell you that the thermocline in this quarry varies between about 14-16 feet in the summer and I have NEVER caught or marked bass on my FF below the thermocline.
  3. Same here. Two summers ago I did very well using the Rage Tail, for some reason this past summer, same places, I did much better with the Bug.
  4. I love my SG130. The only trouble I have with it is reaching rods on the back of the crate due to the large hatch between the seat and the tank well. I can just reach the rods with the tips of my fingers. My only complaint about that kayak. Or maybe my only complaint about my arms! LOL
  5. I have the Hook2 7 inch and it shows the depth in increments on the side. I would look at the settings for you but it's boxed up due to my recent upgrade in that area.
  6. I wear quick dry cargo pants in the cooler weather, the colder it is the thicker the layer underneath. I wear cargo shorts in the warmer weather. I like having the cargo pockets.
  7. When I started I brought two rods and a couple 3700 boxes. Now I bring between 6-8 rods and 6 3700 boxes and 2 3600 boxes. If you bring only the lures tied on what happens when you lose it? What if it isn't what the bass want that day? I'm all for starting light but as your abilities improve what you bring will most likely increase. I could still bring two rods and a few 3600's but that's not as fun! LOL Look up rod leashes for securing your rods to the kayak. I'm sure you're gong to get many more responses to this post.
  8. I'm in the same boat, forcing myself to bring a spinning rod for finesse. Since I'm not convinced I'll use it much I'm starting out with a $100 combo I bought at Cabela's a couple years ago.
  9. Mine would be my MegaBass Vision jerkbaits. I have several, I've lost a couple, and it makes me cry.
  10. My two main colors are Watermelon/Red Flake and Black/Blue Flake. That probably makes up 90% of my usage.
  11. I tried a H/fast rod for jigging based on a couple of people's suggestions. I didn't like it. I went back to a MH/Fast. Unless I'm throwing it in heavy cover of course.
  12. Every year I say I'm going to keep track of the tables to see if there's any correlation with my success on a given day. Then every year I don't keep track..lol
  13. Ha, well then they really suck at keeping their page updated!! LOL
  14. Quick Google search...February 2nd..
  15. And they are stronger than some less expensive brands. The was one of the reasons I switched to them.
  16. I'm partial to 6th Sense. A couple of Movement 80X for 1-3 feet, a couple Crush 50 2-X for 2-5 feet, Curve 55 for 5-10 feet, and a couple of Cloud 9 C15 for 12-19 feet. That's 8 very good crankbaits for under $70.
  17. I use a 3/8 oz Dirty Jigs swim jig with a 3.8 Keitech through heavy grass. Yes it does get bit. Most of my jigging is done on a MH/Fast rod, I rip grass on a H/Fast though.
  18. I throw weightless plastics on a Med/Fast rod. BassX to be exact.
  19. I wasn't aware of the no real down scan concern. I just did a little research and am quoting this from another forum. So after a lot of reading about this, here is what I have learned. The GT transducers all have a dedicated down viewing crystal. The CV (clear vu) transducers do not, they use the side ducer and software stitching (as explained in the video). If anyone is concerned about not having a dedicated crystal, they can purchase a GT transducer and it will work fine. In fact, from what I’ve read, a lot of CV owners are now contacting Garmin to try and replace their CV transducers. The lawsuit does not prohibit Garmin from selling the GT transducer separate, only from bundling it with the unit. Check your ducer. If it’s the GT model you are good.
  20. I dove for many years. I was certified in search and recovery, overhead environments, rescue. It was a blast. My favorite dives were the various springs in Florida and some wrecks off of Cape Hatteras. Research the EM Clark. It's beyond normal diving but after a few years of experience and training it is literally the dive of a lifetime. But,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I live in the midwest and diving around here got boring. Plus most of the time you're lucky to get 5 feet of visibility.
  21. I've caught a few bass when I continue to walk the frog back to the kayak AFTER it gets through the slop. I've tried to convince my buddies to do the same as I watch them get out of the slop and just crank it the rest of the way as fast as they can.
  22. Tatula Elite is a nice rod. A little over $150
  23. I caught a few over 5 this year 1 on a spinnerbait 2 on a jerkbait 4 on either a swim jig/paddletail or a pitchin jig Rage Bug
  24. This summer I lost a deep diving crankbait. I tried my plug knocker for the first time. It's down there with the crank bait.
