  2. Great guide, My good luck charm (my son in law) who didn't even get a follow and a lot of casts into the pitch black night. What a great night! ;D
  3. A 3 muskie night on Mille Lacs lake MN 3 muskies, a 49 1/2, a 44 1/2 and a 50 inch. Caught on cowgirl and cowgirl type baits.
  4. a little late getting to this post, I was one of the 7 who caught their personal best on this trip. great fishing. a 9 lb 4 oz on a rapala skitter pop and a 7 lber on the chug bug. Great weather, great fishing. 8-)
  5. Like most people, I think of fishing some of the much hyped bass lakes in Mexico, el salto, lake baccarac, lake huites. I know the cost is significant, but I'd still like to know what others think. How do you choose a lodge if you've never been. One of my problems is that it is difficult to find someone that is willing to spend that amount of money for this type of trip when you need at least 2 people to begin to get a reasonable rate.. How do I locate someone willing/ interested in going on a bass trip of a lifetime? Though I don't consider myself a great bass fisherman, I can hold my own. I've fished canada a number of times, done well, but want to add this to my list of fishing destinations. Thoughts, recommendations, info would be greatly appreciated. :-/ :-/
  6. the color i've had most success on from shore has been the black and gold rapala floater. You might also try some of the shallow shad raps, or the standard shad raps depending on the depth you wnat to hit, generally try to get them within a foot of the bottom on the retrieve.
  7. Here's the way to tell. Discerning the differences between a white crappie and a black crappie can be tricky. Aspiring record-breakers should count the spines on the dorsal (top) fin: The black crappie has seven to eight dorsal spines, while the white crappie has only five to six. Another good way to tell the difference between these two closely related species is to look at the fish's colorationif the fish is marked with random spots, it's most likely a black crappie. A white crappie is marked with five to 10 vertical bars along its sides.
  8. Those were the two I caught. My son in law with me also landed a 43 3/4 inch muskie
  9. rods were 7 1/2 - 8 foot heavy baitcasting rod, 80 lb braided line, 100 lb flourocarbon leader. baitcaster with line counter.
  10. set up was trolling over deep water with cowgirls by mayhem tackle. trolling with 10 oz weight, 3-4 foot leader 40-50 feet of line out behind boat. trolling speed 3-4 mph
  11. Central Minnesota not mille lacs
  12. Caught these 2 muskie on Monday. what a rush. 40 inch and a 50 inch. ;D
  13. I repainted a smokercraft aluminum boat about 15 years ago. stripped off all the old paint, used the etching/aluminum cleaner and used an epoxy paint from the automotive parts supply. The paint has not flaked off anywhere on the boat except in a few places on the top where I didn't remove all the old paint. i am still amazed at how well it has held up.
  14. Bass resource fishing forums are the best site ever for bass fishing info. We all talk about knots, best knot for connecting lines to lines, line to cranks, line to jigs etc. after reading about all the knots, I sometimes want to see how to tie them or what makes them different. here's a link that gives an animated knot tying demo for just about every knot. www.animatedknots.com I know that sometimes links aren't suggested, but thought this might be okay. :-/

Even though you bought the paints already, here's another one. I have tried herbies magic dust on some other weights and the colors are amazing. try this web site.....www.herbiesmagicdust.com Amazing color.
  16. Because I don't get on the water as much as I'd like to and our open water season is shorter than other parts of the country (Minnesota), I use one of the products from Rick Taylor's web site. http://primetimes2.com/pages/4-astrotables.html If I am going to schedule a trip with a guide or plan a trip away from my local waters, I use it to pick the best days to go. So far I haven't been disappointed. Dough hannon has a good product, I just happen to like this one. Caught my biggest bass (8.9 lb) on a lake fork trip using the tables, my biggest pike (45 inch) doing the same. Weather will always trump the sun and the moon as far as a fish bite, but any added edge is helpful. Taylor's site gives some good explanations even if you don't buy his product.
  17. Have you checked out the new berkley fireline crystal, translucent superline. heaviest weight is 20 lb test but it should be much less visible than any of the braids. Crystal 20/8 Lb. Test/Line Diam. I have not personally tried this new stuff since the ice is still on the lakes here, but I do plan to give this a try when the water is not quite as hard.
  18. I ordered some from living rubber company. First time trying them so ordered the "variety pack" . Too many choices otherwise. Here's a link. http://www.livingrubber.com/prdetail.asp?pid=6 Love the coloring on the chatter blade.
  19. Looking at various handheld units, and convincing my buddy and his dad to buy the lowrance ifinder h20and the h20c. One was color, the other was black and white. The one that was black and white he recommends going to the color one. best price I've seen for the color is 235 on amazon. black and white around 170. lakemaster chips or anvionics chips around 100 bucks additional. Wait till later to get the lake map chips. the lake map chips are great if they have the lakes you fish on otherwise any of the new gps units will get you back to the same spot within about 30 feet.
  20. Favorites are x -raps number 10 in the clown.
  21. probably a little late for your outing, but depending on your ice fishing rod, i get much improved sensitivity using a spring bobber, especially for finicky or light biting fish. when it's cold and my fingers aren't as sensitive, or i'm trying to stay warm with gloves, the visual of seeing that spring bobber move gives me a quicker response for setting the hook. Just my 2 cents. How did you do?
  22. I am just getting seriously started myself, here are a couple of thoughts on paints from what I have gathered from many hours of research. Best spray paints to use are duplicolor automotive paints for lacquer based with lacquer based clear coats. According to one of the premier fish woodcarvers I have ever seen (Ed Walicki) they have the best spray pattern. Other users recommend finishing with clear epoxy for durability. I also just saw a reference to epoxy based spray paints used for painting appliances that is carried at lowes. Sounds like an interesting possibility. Good luck. let us know how it goes.
  23. other options though probably not as good for bass, check out rollie and helens muskie shop under the tools section, you'll see a couple of bolt cutters that muskie fisherman use. should work for bass also.
  24. What about using a wolf river rig, with a heavy sinker on the three way swivel. Not exactly a c-rig but you can modify the wieght you want to add until you get to the right buoyancy. may have to adjust leader length to achive the depth you want to maintain on the rapala.
  25. Took my first big northern specific trip last year to Anglers Kingdom in ontario. Drive in to the landing with boat and portage to the resort after that. Caught my trophy, a 45 inch pike. Good number of big northern and decent amounts of nice walleyes when the northerns aren't ready. Don't know what location you are going from but check the all canada show schedule for a location and time that might be near you for a large selection of resorts and what they offer. american plan vs housekeeping, how much time on the road are all things to consider. Here's the result of a late may trip in 2006.
