  1. It's supposed to storm here on Saturday, but it will be cloudy and 70 on Sunday. I may take Saturday and run some new coated rudder cables on my kayak and then head out on Sunday. I'm a little wary being out on my kayak when the water is this cold, but the striper, white bass, and hybrid bite is heating up and I'd like to get in on that. Hopefully the largemouth pre-spawn bite heats up in January as well.
  2. Rookies. My hotel is on the lake and if the weather is decent I usually run out back and fish for 20 minutes. After our deep freeze this past week, it was 64 today so I hit the docks for a few minutes and even landed a little 1 pounder. What's more, I actually get paid to fish ? Well, kind of. I run my Fishing with the GM clinic during the warmer months and head out back and teach the kids. This year we'll also have a few Kayak Fishing with the GM events. Guests can bring their own or rent one of our kayaks.
  3. My ex wife snored so loud I would go to the other end of the house in my office to sleep and I could STILL hear her.
  4. Go to the South Carolina Lowcountry in the Hilton Head and Bluffton area. Stay at a villa in one of the gated communities, or you can get a day pass to drive into Sea Pines. Bring your bikes and bike from lagoon to lagoon and fish. If you don't catch 2 or 3 four or five pounders every day you should probably take up knitting ?
  5. It's funny because I wear a size 9. When his gear was delivered I opened the boxes and thought to myself, "Holy $#%@"
  6. I have a Seastream Angler 120 PD. Waterways USA usually has the best prices on it, and right now that's $1,299. But on top of that, at a minimum you have to add money for shipping, a paddle, and a PFD. You'll probably want a cart as well. The costs do add up quickly, but for me it's worth it. I added some accessories to it including a Humminbird Helix 7 DI SI and this winter I bought a trolling motor as well. However, I haven't tried out the motor yet as I pack my kayak in for the winter when the water gets too cold. I posted two reviews about it here on BR - my initial impressions and a one year follow up.
  7. My son just turned 17 - he wears size 15's and he's still growing. It took a bit to find some metal baseball cleats and baseball turf shoes for him for Christmas.
  8. I'm going to let everyone in on a secret. There's a place where you can go and catch a lot of 4, 5, and 6 pound bass every day. There are double digit bass lurking everywhere as well. There are so many bodies of water you couldn't fish them all in your lifetime. You don't need a boat. You don't need a kayak. In fact, on many of these bodies of water they are forbidden. Where is this magical place? The South Carolina Lowcountry! From Hilton Head and Bluffton up to Charleston there are thousands and thousands of lagoons (ponds) all teeming with largemouth bass. It's a bank fisherman's paradise. When I lived there I fished hundreds of lagoons. When I coached my son in travel baseball and we played up in the Charleston area we would pack some fishing gear and stop at different lagoons along our route and we were never disappointed. I miss fishing in that area.
  9. 25% of my wardrobe now consists of the free Tackle Warehouse t-shirts that you receive when you reach a certain spending amount on that order. ?
  10. Merry Christmas to everyone and please stay safe in this brutal weather we are having. If you lose power, don't be a hero. Get to a hotel or a shelter. Cold is one thing, frigid, life threatening cold is another. It's not worth the risk.
  11. I informed the dealer of my findings but didn't have time to take my car back once again. It's a 40 minute drive and I wasted enough hours out there this week and I really need to get some work done. Their top tech guy is on vacation next week, so I'll have to wait another week. In the meantime I'm driving around in manual transmission mode. It's not bad, but with an 8 speed it's annoying to have to jump that quickly through the first three gears after coming to a stop. Funny thing though - occasionally I find my left foot looking for a clutch pedal! Sometimes I miss having an old style, manual transmission car. But today's on board computers are so good even the supercars are using automatic transmissions.
  12. I used to have one and I loved it. I would also use it to make pizza dough. But somewhere along the line I lost interest. Now that I'm older I try and stay away from bread. That's hard because I used to love having a crusty roll with jam or butter and a slice of cheese for breakfast every morning.
  13. Dogs by a long shot. Cats are evil and always plotting. If they had thumbs they would kill you. If dogs had thumbs they'd pop open your beer for you.
  14. It's been so cold here in GA the past 24 hours the ponds are starting to ice up. I was running a hotel in the Portland / Scarborough Maine area back in the late 90's or early 2000's when we had a huge ice storm. I lost power at my place for a week, but some of my employees were without power for 6 weeks. Needless to say, I let my team stay at our hotel until their power was restored. That was a brutal winter.

  16. That's great to know. Thank you. I spent another 4 hours at the dealer today and they told me the problem was my car needed "better spark plugs" than the one they put in yesterday. Really? After 4 hours? I asked them to discount what they charged me yesterday since it seems to be their issue and they refused. I was polite and told them I would call Hyundai USA and ask them to take care of it. I told them if the problem persisted on my way home I would turn around and come back. So on my way home, I accelerate and the same thing happens - more red line. But at this point I have zero confidence in the dealership, so I just called them and let them know and asked them to call Hyundai for some ideas. I needed to get to work, but said I could bring it back in the morning. So as I'm driving to work I'm thinking it might be the blow off valve adjustment, a broken turbine fin, oil starved turbo, exhaust blockage, and more. But on the way home I tried something - I took it out of automatic mode and tried the bump shifter and the paddle shifters and I did not have the same problem. So this seems to match perfectly with what you said. Ah - just checked - that's on 2021 and 2022 select models and mine is a 2013. So it is probably some sort of electronic control module issue, but it's very odd timing that this happened when I got the vehicle serviced. It did not happen on the way out there and I did hot foot it a bit. When I was much younger I raced Legends cars and Late Models for a little bit. Years ago I did a few SCCA events with me Genesis Coupe. While I like speed, in a passenger car I NEVER try and take the car to its limits on the street. My car is set up pretty tight and I've got some wide, soft summer tires that can be pushed a little more than your average tire. I did a track day on Roebling Road one time (helmet, fire suit, racing shoes) and hit 140 mph (and quickly backed off) in my Genesis. That was thrilling and scary. Once was enough. One thing that I always wanted to try was rally car racing, but never found an opportunity. I was relegated to doing it on my PC.
  17. Then they are doing it wrong. This is why you still need a kayak cart even if you trailer your kayak.
  18. I took my Genesis Coupe in to be serviced today. I needed new brakes all around, a tune up, and a new head gasket. It took forever to get it done and I got out of there just after their normal closing time of 5 pm. The car head been misfiring a bit before the repairs, so on the way home I wanted to open it a bit and see if the old pep was back. Oil temperature was perfect, cruising at 60 mph and 1,800 RPM and I punch the gas. Tach jumps up to 4,200 RPM's and the turbo is not kicking in properly. The gauge shows boost but I'm not accelerating quickly. I normally jump from 60mph to 80mph in less than 2 seconds. I didn't crack 75 in 5 seconds. So I back off and try again, this time keeping on the accelerator. I red lined the tach and still hadn't hit 80 mph. I have NEVER red lined before. Normally I'm 60 to 100 in a heartbeat. So I get on the phone and of course the service department is closed. I spent 5 hours there today and now I'll have to go in tomorrow. They had better not give me the run around. I used them once before for some new tires and they screwed up the camber and toe in and I lost that riding on rails feeling when cornering. These guys aren't my normal dealer as I have moved since then. So far I'm not impressed.
  19. Do you want to get to your next fishing spot in 10 minutes or an hour and 90 minutes? I love my kayak. But sometimes I have a two hour pedal to get to where I want to fish. And then after fishing that area for hours I have a two hour pedal back to my launch. If it's blazing hot or a squall blows in it can be problematic out there. I don't have a boat, but if I did I would not trade it in for a kayak. But I would probably buy a kayak and have the best of both worlds. That being said, you may want to save some money and not go all in on a $4k kayak. My Seastream Angler 120 PD was less than half of that and I have zero regrets about my purchase.
  20. Bought myself some Christmas gifts from TW and they arrived today including: Picasso Smartmouth Gamakatsu Jigs Berkley Fusion underspins BFL Smackdown Four Blade Rig Some Keitech Wing Impact FAT in different lengths and colors Some KVD Swin N Shiners in different colors Another Z-Man Jackhammer But they shorted me on a few items including a Plano Duffel Bag and a Shimano World Pop. I called and they said they would ship it out. On my last order, they sent me multiples of 3 different lures when I had ordered only one. I called them about returning them and they told me to just keep them. I figured I would give them out as prizes to kids when I do Fishing with the GM in the spring. Anyone having issues with wrong quantities or being shorted?
  21. Yup! I'm getting to be an old man and I get chilly. I'll probably wear out the bottoms in a few months shuffling my feet across the floor.
  22. By late this week we're going to have daytime high temperatures around 30 degrees and nighttime temperatures in the low to mid teens. That's fine for where a grew up in Connecticut, but I live in Georgia now and I am vehemently opposed to cold weather. It was cold yesterday and I could not get warm all day, especially my feet. So I had to go on Amazon and purchase some emergency slippers. I'm getting prepared, though. I went to the grocery store and bought ingredients for chili and beef stew for the rest of the week.
  23. Hook into a big striper on a light kayak and you might find yourself in South America ?
  24. Brush the steak - instead of the basket - with olive oil and then apply your seasonings. It's important that the steak be at or near room temperature before you cook it in the air fryer.
  25. Portion control ? I've seen pictures where people have 3 or 4 of them lined up on their counter. At that point you should be looking at a different piece of equipment.
