  1. Haven't used the custom lite but I own several of the new tournament pro lfs reels. I've been more than pleased. Of the reels mentioned the team lite would be my choice. I've fished a buddies some and haven't heard much other than positive from anyone about them. I'd say any of the reels u mentioned will be great...just a matter of which one suites what you want it for the best. Good luck
  2. I think all the basspro rods are fantastic for their price point. I honestly hate supporting them after all that's went down in the last few years...but...at the end of the day it's the best option for me. I need gear that's affordable, quality, and if I have a problem I can't run to the store and get it taken care of. Good to hear they've made the warranty 10 years...makes it even better.
  3. Mine made a funky noise on a cast and whatever happened made it feel like a coffee grinder. My dad's got really rough as well not sure if it happened the same way. I've had some 50 dollar reels that lasted longer. I didn't bother taking them apart I just returned them. We may have just got lemons. However, his was left and mine was right handed. Of course everyone says lews and revos are made by doyo and I've had similar experiences. All my lews have been solid. I've tried several model Revos and never much cared for them. Different strokes I guess
  4. I've owned all the reels mentioned. My opinion differs from most. The sv reels for sure are more user friendly and a pleasure to cast. I've owned 3 and they were all louder than I found acceptable and somewhat geary feeling. The Fuego and tatula are identical minus the t wing which I'm not a fan of. The tatula 100 is my favorite based solely on ergonomics. The Fuego can be had for 80, ct for 90-100 and 100 for 100 bucks. Being that close in money I'd go 100. They're all fine reels. My buddy has fished about 10 ct reels hard for a cple years with no maintenance at all and they've held up surprisingly well as he isnt gentle with em.
  5. These guys probably know more than me about the origins of the reels etc. I personally would buy the lews. I've had an old pro qualifier for years and its solid. My dad and I both bought pro qualifier reels last spring and they both didn't last a month of weekend fishing. Maybe we just got lemons as most guys seem to think they're solid. Reading reviews of both tho I've seen a lot more negative on the pro qualifier.
  6. That should work just fine. I've thrown the rig on several different rods over the years. Give it a try and see what you think. I used to throw it on braid too but have switched over to 20 lb fluoro. Caught a lot of fish on ot using a 7'3 hvy rod and 50 lb braid. I still like this a rig better than any I've tried for the money. Good luck
  7. Pretty easy to see most people think they're the 2 best. They've both had a long history of making quality products. I personally think some of the doyo platforms are just as capable and quality as well. My only gripe with daiwa is it seems their quality is all over the place. Get 4 fuego or tatula reels and they wont all feel the same. If they fixed that I'd probably prefer them. Shimano seems to be a little more consistent and this pleases my ocd lol. Plus most of the newer shimanos are smaller profile and this matters. I dont think honestly in the above 100 dollar range that there are any bad reels anymore. Just personal preferences
  8. I've used one of these for years and years. Attached it to an old reel and a junk rod I cut off above the first guide. I've literally saved myself and other 100's of dollars in baits.
  9. I'm a Triton guy but of those 2 setups I'd try to talk him down a few grand on the ranger. The ultrex and power poles as well as the bigger motor and slightly better resale value. Assuming the condition is similar and hrs on the motor aren't crazy. Of course whichever one looks the best would affect my decision as well and the 17 probably still has 3 years of warranty where the 13 wont.
  10. Truly good read and glad you shared! Nice to hear how you're wife supported you and how you handled yourself. You thought you needed to change so you changed. That sir is how a man should handle his business! I'm sure it wasn't a cake walk and congrats! Nice looking rig as well I'm sure it will serve its purpose well and look sweet doing it!
  11. Looking for reviews on these reels? Is it any smoother or anything than the slx? I know the difference just curious? Looking to buy a cple for my daughter and nowhere around has any in stock to play with or purchase. Thanks
  12. That braid is mlm most likely the problem. Always baffles me how people try to run incredibly thin braid on a casting reel. Anything smaller than 40 for me and its constantly digging into itself and acting goofy. I'd try that yozuri and if it still acts up take it back. I'm betting it acts fine with that line
  13. I'm a fan of the 7 ratio or more importantly 30 to 32 ipt on the reel. I have a cple higher speed reels and they're fine but I just find that for me and my style I like the 7. Also for frogging I have always liked the 7 ratio. I'm sure plenty of other will prefer the 8. I find the 7 to be really versatile, use it for jig, frog, jerkbait, some smaller crankbaits and a few other things. Good luck
  14. I apparently am not as skilled as someone who can turn all the brakes off and just roll with it. I run my reels a little more free than most people I've ever been around but I need the brakes. That tournament pro is slick and wilm absolutely cast lures lighter than half oz....but...I did find them to be a little finicky. It wasn't a reel I could just set and forget like some of my others. If ur a guy who has particular reels to throw the same baits it should be just fine. To throw things like weightless senkos or lighter jerkbaits I had to turn the dial up a lot more than I do on most reels. Honestly not a huge fan of that particular braking system and it sucks cause most all of their higher end offerings have it. I may try the new tournament mp since it has the older mcb braking with adjustable pins plus the magnetic. Still like that system. Good luck
  15. Took my old man out for a few hours yesterday! Not a bad way to spend Christmas eve. This one went 4.12 and came on a rick clunn jerkbait!
  16. Sounds to me like u have your doubts and I don't think any of us are going to remove that doubt. I would just use what you're confident in. Sometimes it's a pain but nothing worse than regret. Apparently it works for some and others like myself will never do it.
  17. My good buddy has that rod and I've fished it several times. In my opinion they are super nice rods for the money. Lightweight, balanced, sensitive and good looking rods to boot. I would have no problems having a deck full of them. As far as reels, the daiwa tatula 100 at sportsman's outfitters for 99 bucks is hard to beat. Good luck
  18. I fish a lot of clearer lakes and wouldn't even entertain the thought of running straight braid on everything. I run it on my frog rod and one spinning rod that gets a fluoro leader. Like most things I'm sure it's a confidence thing but no one I know around here fishes much braid. Apparently it works for a lot of u guys tho. I personally think there are times when the visibility of the braid would affect the number of bites. I have no evidence of this but believe it enough to not run braid on most things. Plus I'm not crazy about the noise and such associated with it. I say use whatever ur confident in. Maybe try it and see if you think its hurting anything.
  19. Best of luck and a speedy recovery on your venture! Given the possibilities that could have happened...a cple scratches on your vehicle are quite minor! We all take things for granted every day and this definitely made me thankful I'm still pretty healthy at 40. Best wishes on your journey!
  20. My buddy fishes nothing but abu and says that reel is the least favorite he's ever owned. I personally wouldn't touch it for 200. There are better options if you do some research
  21. I agree with the above about the daiwa sv spool reels. I fish a weightless senko a lot and sometimes smaller ned type rigs on these reels and they are the deal for light stuff
  22. Just the opposite of my opinion. To me yes the slx is smaller but that's where it ends. The Fuego is just as smooth, smoother under a load, and much more free feeling than the slx. Never tried the xt but the regular didn't impress me much once I got it on the water. Plus daiwas braking system is far superior in my opinion. Obviously people view things differently, lots of love for the slx. To me it felt like a toy, almost too small. Be great for kids or anyone with small hands or just prefers tiny reels. In the 99 range I'd go Fuego ct, revo x, speed spool, then slx. Or the tatula 100 for 99 is ne and r impossible to beat. There's several places clearancing out the citica i reels as well. Tons of options for sure. I'd go somewhere and see what "you" think.
  23. Daiwa legalis is hard to beat and can be had for less than 60 bucks. I too fished presidents for years but like everything else they've cheapened them up and the last cple I've bought have been junk.
  24. I agree all are excellent choices. I do think the daiwa reel would be the better choice for a beginner. Their braking system is superior in my opinion. Good luck
  25. I use flippin hooks on beaver style or some thicker craw style bait. Wide gap in worms, senkos etc.
