  1. I figure they are probably more consistent and maybe the best quality. I just can't bring myself to drop 25 bucks on em. If they were even 15 I would be game. I refuse to buy one cause I'm afraid I'll end up having to buy a lot more lol. I do pretty good on the rick clunn, kvd and rapala jerkbaits. I'm sure eventually I'll cave and give them a try as I too am curious if they really are that good.
  2. I've had some success with cranks and glide baits stopping the retrieve and fishing it like a jerkbait to get one to commit. Learning to fish glide baits I kept having good fish follow right to the boat. Finally had a 5 lber follow to within a few feet of the boat, I killed it, twitched it a cple times and it smoked it. I've had some luck doing the same with crankbaits
  3. I'm on a lews kick so I'd go with the tournament pro lfs for 139 from sportsman's outfitters. Of the ones listed tho that tatula 100 is pretty hard to beat for 99 bucks. Slx are nice reels but in my opinion the tatula is a much nicer reel.
  4. I've never personally paid any attention to the lure rating. I can see how it would be beneficial to inexperienced anglers tho
  5. I haven't but I've studied on it and cple of buddies running talons. I think it would be a lot easier to add a Jack plate. I've pondered adding then to my aluminum Triton but dont wanna mount them to the hull so I'd add the Jack plate if I decided to do em.
  6. Thanks guys, gentleman I sold a few reels to on here is sending me some to try! Generosity at its finest! Thanks for the feedback...looking forward to giving them a good workout!
  7. Curious if anyone has tried these and opinions if so? Kinda like that they're a little different than most. Looking for something that obviously works well but less action than say a rage craw. Thanks
  8. This is why I prefer to buy my rods in store if possible so I can check that out before buying. It's not goin to hurt a thing but my OCD gets to me. As for heating up the tip...if it has the epoxy/finish on it u need to remove it before you try to straighten it out. The heat will let the glue soften up inside and let you move it but I'd say ur hurt the blank if you dont remove the epoxy first. It's not a hard job I've done it to several. I always use a razor blade to remove the epoxy then cut/remove the wrap if there is on. If you're not familiar with fixing or building rods I would leave it be or send it in the be fixed or replaced.
  9. I usually replace mine once a year. All I use is red label. Reading this makes me wanna see how it holds up to being on there longer
  10. I've got a kobalt small screwdriver that has 4 bits with different sizes on both ends that I've used for years on reels and have never had a problem...knock on wood. I'd definitely invest in some if you're stripping the heads on the screws
  11. I agree, anything from the carbonlite to the platinum series are awesome sticks especially at the sale prices. Most all of my current lineup are cabelas and basspro rods. Love that if I need to replace a broken rod I can drive 15 minutes instead of spending money and having to ship back and wait on replacement.
  12. Most are gonna prefer a stiffer rod for frog fishing than they would want for a wacky senko. I fish a frog a lot on a 7'2 med hvy jig worm rod that has some tip and could be used for the senko. No clue what it budget is to actually suggest a particular rod. Dobyns, daiwa, shimano, st croix, basspro and I'm sure plenty of others offer similar sticks in varying price ranges
  13. Definitely times I've caught em on squarebills and rattle baits that they wouldn't touch a bladed jig. Sometimes it doesnt matter but I certainly wouldn't get rid of any of them. I've narrowed down my selection of baits to a cple colors and baits I have confidence in.
  14. I agree...tie directly to the snap. If a swivel was needed it would come with one attached
  15. I've got a new 115 pro xs 4 stroke on my aluminum triton. The more I run it the more I realize I'd hate to have to go back to a 2 stroke. No adding oil...I almost screwed up my last 250 pro xs forgetting to fill the reservoir. Its soooooo quiet and the fuel economy is amazing. My buddy has a mid 2000's 115 2 stroke merc and we believe the 4 stroke gets maybe 5 times better fuel economy. I believe the future of outboards is definitely 4 stroke.
  16. I think speed is always relative. Personally anything over 70 is too fast in a bass boat. Too many variables. Of course guys with bullets would disagree. I've had one rig that would run 75. I hit that once and scared myself. Cruised at 65 comfortably in it. Also believe there should be some form of training before a guy can buy a 90 mph rig and take it to the lake. If not for his safety for everyone else's. Guys get crazy launching for a tournament. I've seen several close calls simply from people with too much testosterone and no common sense. If the driver is experienced and courteous then the speed isnt such a big deal.
  17. I definitely wouldn't want to have to harm someone or their boat but I absolutely would have put a few holes in at least their boat. I guess it seems a little harsh but anyone who would do this to a cple of kids...the world would probably be better off without them anyway. Now the kid has to pay or have his insurance go up because some jucied up jerk decides to plow his rig? Jail isn't nearly enough
  18. For whatever reason a local lake I tournament fish on is like the bullet capital of Kentucky. Anywhere else I go i see one occasionally. On this lake in a 100 boat tournament there's probably 30 bullets. Super nice boats but I've watched them as they blow by me and I have no desire to own something that handles like they do at high speed. Looks dangerous but apparently isnt as I've never heard of anyone wrecking one. I personally favor triton boats. Little more speed than most but still plenty easy to drive. Few years ago I would have loved the speed. Now I can't get the thought outta my mind of where my wife and kid would be if I lost my life or got paralyzed from a boat wreck. Guy I know went from a big ranger to a new bullet. Says he loves it but that he had to learn to drive it where as the ranger just put it on pad and cruise.
  19. Totally agree. Picked up the pro q limited this past spring for 50 and it lasted literally like 3 trips throwing a squarebill before it crapped out. Have an old pro q that's lasted for years but the Fuego ct is far superior to the new one
  20. I'm sure it's not healthy for the bass. I caught one a cple years ago with about half of a senko hanging out of its behind. I pulled it out and told my dad it was one time the fish probably was happy to be caught. I do like others have said and dont throw any line or lures in the water and I try to pay attention when fishing plastics so they dont completely swallow it before I hook em.
  21. Yum makes 7 inch dingers but I have no clue if that's what that bait is. I've caught some fish on the big dingers but prefer the 5 inch.
  22. I like a slow steady retrieve and then it seems that throwing in some quick twitches a lotta times will make them actually commit. I had a lot of followers first several times I fished them and this seem to make em actually try to eat it.
  23. I'd go cheaper on the reel. The slx, lfs speed spool, revo x, and tatula 100 can all be had for 99 bucks or less and are great reels. I could afford a little nicer reels but most of mine were less than 150 bucks. Anything in that price range is decent to excellent quality. Lots of nice rods for 99 bucks or less as well. I'd say u could possibly end up with 3 nice combos for 500 if you bargain shop especially with the black Friday sales coming.
  24. I dont have a lot of experience throwing bigger baits myself. My only concern with ur suggestions would be line capacity on the slx. I'm sure others with more experience will chime in. Guess it depends too if its going to be a dedicated bigger bait combo or something you need to be more versatile. I have one combo I throw bigger baits on and I use a lews super duty on it with no complaints but it has a little more capacity than the slx. Good luck
  25. That reel will be really hard to beat at a 99 price tag. Not the best at anything but good at everything! I doubt u will be disappointed
