  1. I like looking at the trees and the wildlife while I fish. A buddy has a $1200 fishfinder - and it's great - but if I wanted to watch a screen all day I'd stay home and watch tv.
  2. Call the local TV station and see if they have a "Channel xx on your side" show. Around here I'd also call the folks who manage the Chesapeake Bay Program. They know lots of important people in the watershed...
  3. i'm sorry to hear this terrible news. My condolences to you and your family. My brother-in-law died on 1/20 after a 20-month fight with a large Grade 4 brain tumor.
  4. I like aluminum boats. From time to time I think about buying a custom jet boat and learning to jump rocks in the upper James. Forget the usual jon boat spec of naked .1" or .125" aluminum. www.riverroadjetboats.com/index.html "Our standard package consists of 3/8" UHMW [ultra high molecular weight (UHMW) polyethylene bar] and 1/8" sides, bottom and transom. Our heavy duty package consists of 1/2" UHMW and 3/16" bottom." I just noticed their address... Rocky Hill Rd.
  5. Velcro. One spot for travel and another spot for fishing. How far back do you need to move the seat back to make it work? Can you remount the trolling mount on a thick piece of aluminum so it extends a bit more over the bow? Fwiw... A curved seat post will gain you 5". $39.95 www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-offset-seat-post?hvarAID=shopping_googleproductextensions&affcode_c=&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1JLm-5eX5wIVy5-zCh2Bgw6FEAQYASABEgKI5vD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds I've used one on my 1648 grizzly for 6 years and I weigh 220. The cable on the Maxxum 70 was just short enough to keep my knee at a 90 degree angle all day - almost all day until the cramping started. Now it's comfortable and the curved post makes the bow seem 5" wider too when fishing over the side. Attwood makes a 6" offset adapter that goes between the top of the post and the seat. I've never used one. hwww.amazon.com/attwood-7062-3-Swivl-Eze-Zinc-Plated-6-Inch/dp/B0000AXW7E I agree, some pics would help.
  6. Yeah, Shimano got my money for 2 of their flagship Met MGL's. "the Shimano Metanium MGL Casting Reel is in a league of its own." - Shimano "Delivering advanced tournament caliber performance for a range of bass fishing applications" - Shimano I think I'll wait a year or two and see what they screwed up on the new one. I'm afraid they've gotten a bit too sloppy, or slipshod, or something, but it's not a good way to treat your customers. Did anyone at Shimano actually fish the Met MGL's hard for a year before they put them on the market? "Oops." - Shimano's new marketing phrase.
  7. Hydrocarbon blend* Blend 100% *Note: The exact composition of the above listed chemicals are being withheld as a trade secret. Signal Word DANGER! https://seafoamsales.com/uploads/2019/09/MP-SDS-US-ENG-v20190924.pdf
  8. "It will be interesting to see where MLF goes in 2020." If they don't care about showing how the fish are caught, maybe they'll figure out the real money is over on the cooking network. Yum, baked, broiled and fried fish.
  9. "that cost $300 in early 90's." Using an inflation calculator, that's around $540 today. But I was still poor back then.
  10. I googled around a little and didn't find any prints, only the same sketch. www.bassmaster.com/dave-precht/harry-n-charlie-redux There are numerous places that will take a digital file or photo and print, frame it, and mail it to you. There are probably local places, too.
  11. Maybe they haven't signed the papers, only announced the partnership. Who knows? "Terms were not disclosed."
  12. If somebody verifies the details and starts a fund, I'll contribute. I miss getting the Cabela's hardback catalogs in the mail. Cabela's merchandise quality has gone downhill since the takeover and the local store doesn't carry much stuff anyway. Bass Pro? I have other options here and the BP store is only 15 miles away. I haven't been there in 4 years. Oh well. Gander Mountain left town years ago and I don't miss them either.
  13. "Up to 3 Tatula SVs, a 2500 Tatula LT, 2 Falcon Bucoo SRs, a St. Croix 6' 10" MH legend glass cranking rod, and a $120 fishing skirts order now." All i got was a left-handed Steez SV TWS 7.1 And then I spent the sale price savings on more stuff I didn't need: 7 Booyah spinnerbaits, a reel cover, t-shirt, 4 medium Norman and Rapala crankbaits, 2 Dark Sleepers and a pack of SuspendDots. I love sales. "Now all that is left is how to explain it all to my wife." I didn't tell mine. She'll see it when it gets here. My wife retired last month after two years of me nagging, but won't be taking her full SSA retirement for 18 months. I've been retired since 2012. I didn't have to explain anything to her... I just gave her $2000 to supplement her pension for December and another $1000 to buy Christmas presents.
  14. The biggest drawback might be holding a 22 oz reel, plus line, and heavy rod. But if you're used to it already it won't be a problem. I've been tempted for 20 or 30 years to take a 10' or 11' surf rod out in a small lake or river and anchor in the middle so I can fish both sides with plugs or jigs without moving the boat. I wonder if a shiner would survive a 100+ yard cast.
  15. I bought some sale items from Outlet Bait & Tackle last week. Got some deeply discounted Sizmic grubs and shad and some other stuff and more spinnerbaits, but the very best deal was 4 bags of 4.25" Yum Bad Mamma baits in my favorite Black Blue Flake. Each bag was 64 cents. This week they're back to the usual barely discounted price of $3.29. 64 cents. Why didn't I buy more? What was I thinking?
  16. I compete with my buddies every time we go fishing, but there are no prizes. Only bragging rights. Otoh, there are folks who make their living fishing tournaments. It's not recreational fishing imo. That's all they do. Look at the stickers on their boats and clothes. They're participating in commerce of some sort. They're supposed to declare their income on their taxes. Sort of like the difference between a person who rents a table at a gun show to sell his guns vs a guy who goes to every gun show and buys and sells to make his living and doesn't have an FFL. There's a gray line in there somewhere.
  17. I don't have reasonable access to non-ethanol gas. Reasonable = within 40 minutes of any of my usual routes. I'm 69 so I won't worry much about long term rust. Ethanol gas should probably be used within a month or two to be safe and anything leftover sitting in cans dumped into a car or truck. If you use old ethanol gas there will probably be enough water in it to cause some rust. Or so my mower dealer says. I treat my non-auto gas with StarTron year round and then run the outboard and the push mower dry for the winter. The 50-inch Toro ztr and the 48" Deere X380 are run twice a month all winter; mostly to keep the ztr's hydros with all of their small tight parts from sitting too long in cold thick oil. It's been 5 years and so far so good. The dealer is 3rd generation and that's what he suggested, including the StarTron. I used to use Stabil. Otherwise I'd drain everything and let them sit in the cold detached garage. It's 23 here now and the snow is still on the ground from yesterday morning. It'll be in the 60s next week and the grass will be growing again and I'll be mowing.
  18. I have had 4 of them for quite some time - 3 casting and 1 spinning - and I cannot think of one thing I don't like. They slide on and off easily and the adjustable reel handle loop holds them in place. Trust me they are on Conquest rods and I'd buy something better if I had a complaint. My rods see a fair amount of handling going from house to truck to boat (mine or one of my friends). They regularly get bounced down a mile of rough gravel road to get to the mud bank of a small lake we fish. The guy has a bulldozer and a dump truck and he buys the biggest rocks he can get. It's a farm road, not a driveway. We primarily fish electric in out of the way places and once in a while we do a 9.9-only reservoir, so it's not like my gear is safely stowed in a big bass boat and babied. Our boats don't have rod lockers. Order early. He makes them to order, so it can take a few weeks to get your order. Mine don't show dirt. They're black.
  19. I've been using Ultracast Invisi-Braid ever since my buddy bought a huge spool of it 20 or 30 years ago and started giving it away. I primarily use 10# on 2500-series spinning reels without a leader. It breaks at 22 pounds or so.
  20. Hmm. If you're getting paid for catching fish, shouldn't you be required to have a commercial fishing license? It's a business, right?
  21. "Awesome cleaner will clean aluminum boats, fiberglass boats, upholstery, carpet, tires, rims, your truck, & it removes water scrum, mildew, mold." And it will clean 98% of the little black vertical lines that appear on your white gutters with very little rubbing with a microfiber cloth. Who knew? I just discovered the stuff 3 or 4 years ago. Passible bug and tar remover, too.

After a lifetime of wearing very expensive prescription glasses and sunglasses, I had cataract surgery and can now wear plain old sunglasses to fish... but not to read. I almost miss my Varilux Progressives. Almost. And I don't feel safe fishing without glasses at night or in the semi-darkness, so I just bought a pair of 3M Readers safety glasses at Lowes for $14 and they have built-in 1.5 readers. www.lowes.com/pd/3M-Readers-Safety-Glasses/3082317?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-hdw-_-google-_-lia-_-203-_-safetyequipment-_-3082317-_-0&store_code=2572&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIxKPRsvnB5QIVCY6zCh3oGwMbEAQYASABEgIV6fD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
  23. "Just how bad are we talking about? A little rain and wind is fine." We got 3.5" day before yesterday. That was just too much. My sandwich and chips would have been soggy before I got them into my mouth and the bilge pump would have been running before I got the boat backed down the ramp. I have clothes for winter weather duck hunting and surf fishing. I'm just not sure I'd want to spend much time sitting in a boat bass fishing while wearing insulated chest waders.
  24. "Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia" I only go there for rockfish - striped bass. Live bait caught with a cast net, bucktails, big floating lures, etc. ______________ If I was starving I'd use live bait first to catch something, even a largemouth.
