Loomis e6x crankbait rod
Thank you. I personally love a 2 piece handle like the avid x but currently run an imx pro 845c cbr and have really learned to love the 1 piece handle for that application. I will see if I can get my hands on an avid and avid x medium heavy crankbait rod. The reason I’m looking at the e6x is cause there is a wicked sale on them right now and my experience with the imx pro is excellent.

Loomis e6x crankbait rod
Wondering on your personal experiences with the e6x 845c cbr? If you have fished it I’d like to know your thoughts?

First time frogger
I am also relatively new to frog fishing but have been working it super hard this season trying to learn and gain experience with the frog. From what I’ve read and tried this year colour of line hasn’t seem to effect the bite for me. Walking it is difficult at first, still struggle with it from time to time but does make a huge difference on the amount of blowups I get. The big problem I have is hook up ratio. I know it is lower with a frog but I seem to be ripping out of there mouth or pulling away to soon. I’ve slowed down a touch and been getting way more successful with hookup ratio

New rod for the old man
Thank you everyone. Money isn’t really an issue I guess, but 700 dollars might be a touch much. Like I mentioned with Canadian prices right now for example a kistler or legend tourney with a tatula sv would be 675 and 698 out the door. Just a little steep. That’s why I was looking at the e6x 845c cbr as it’s on sale currently and can get that and the reel for 428 out the door. Unfortunately dobyns rods aren’t the easiest to get around my neck of the woods so there probsbly out for now. He will definately throw square bills, shallow and medium depth doubtful on anything really large or deep

New rod for the old man
Thanks gentleman. I own a kistler helium medium heavy fast and love the rod but they aren’t the easiest to get around me and are very expensive in Canada. I don’t want to cheap out but they are in the 400 range. Plus another tatula for him would put me in the 650-700 area. The reason I was looking at the e6x is cause from just feel it feels relatively close to my imx pro and he wants to try a loomis rod as I have a couple now and just love them. The imx pro’s range from 370-450 ish before tax but the e6x are on sale everywhere around me regular price being in the 250 range sitting closer to 160 ish. I looked at the avids and legend tourneys as he’s a fan of his avid x and they sit around 260-370 as well but no sales around. If I was paying regular price I’d probably go for another avid as I think bang for buck there tough to beat. But knowing he wants to try a loomis it’s got me looking at the e6x series. He’s 58 lol

New rod for the old man
The older my dad gets the more he wants to fish. Last 2 years he has been enjoying it and getting out as much as he can but has never owned a good rod before. This year for his birthday I bought him a 7’ st. Croix avid x mh fast action rod with a diawa tatula sv as an all around casting rod. He owned a really crappy setup and loved the concept but never used it cause it just was terrible. He loves the new set up so much it’s all he uses now and he started upgrading some of his spinning rods. im looking into possibly getting him another set up for this upcoming birthday and wanted some advice. Seeing as you know about the medium heavy avid x, what would you recommend. One of his absolute favorite techniques is crankbait fishing. I fish a loomis imx pro 845c cbr and love it and was debating on trying the e6x for him. He still likes the idea of 1 rod covering a larger then likely area. He normally throws lipless and medium depth cranks. But has started throwing a lot of square Bill’s and occasionally deep diving cranks. What rods would you recommend in graphite not class?

Dobyns Sierra vs Shimano Curado ?
I don’t have a curado rod, I keep playing with them trying to find one that I can make use for or fill a niche nicely but just haven’t found it yet. They feel nice but the Sierra does feel better to me. The balance between the too is unmistakeable in favor of the Sierra. Like I said I haven’t fished a curado but do own a Sierra 734c. I wanted the champion but they were sold out. It is definately a medium heavy not s heavy rod! I would put it in the fast category though personally. Little on the slower side but not quiet moderate fast in my opinion. It isn’t a rod I use a ton, and is something I could part ways with but In General I am happy with it and do recommend looking towards the Sierra over the curado. Maybe I’ll find that curado that fills that niche or get to fish one and I’ll change my mind but for now I’ll stick with the sierra as my recommendation.

Squarebill Crankbait Rod Suggestions...???
My new crankbait rod for this season is the g.loomis imx pro 845c cbr and it’s fantastic so far and my hookup ratio has gone way way up! It has quickly become one of my favorite ways to fish!

Fall Crankbaiting!
We were out yesterday and was about the only thing I could get the fish to bite! Love that crankbait bite!
-
St. Croix LTB Still The Premiere Shaky Head Rod ?
Another great one would be G. Loomis glx or nrx. Heck I’m sure the imx pro would probably be great too! And there in the 6’10 range and extra fast

Unhappy with my Tatula- New reel for fathers day?
I don’t have a kastking but do have a tatula, curado k, 2 chronarch mgl’s and one other brand we can’t talk about. Pure effortless casting, the other brand blows my mind everytime on how far it will go. But if I try to get some extra distance I backlash almost everytime. The curado k will cast a mile! Amazing reel, just launches then. It’s on a 7’6” flipping stick and I can send that thing as far as I need it for bank fishing. My chronarch mgl’s are simiply impressive. I have one on a 7’ medium heavy and I can cast lighter lures just a hair shortly then the K and the other is on a7’4” heavy frogging rod, and throwing a 1/2 oz frog I can’t keep it in the pond legitimately! I’d love to see how far my other brand would go if I was better with it. I’m happy with every reel mention with the tatula being my least favourite I own. Still excellent I’m just not as comfortable with it

Frog frustration!
past 4 years I began fishing hollow bodied frogs with terrible hookup ratios. So I rarely threw them, and would throw them back in the box after 15 mins eventually cause I couldn’t hook into one. this year I purchased a dedicated frog rod, threw the right line on it and spent a large amount of money so far on different frogs to try. Different sizes, colours and have had much better luck and is one of my new favorite ways to fish. Trimming the legs have worked well with me for hook ups, bending the hooks up a hair and out a smidge has increased my hook up ratio. The smaller frogs seems to be inhaled better but don’t walk as nice. I’ve had great success so far with Jackall kaera frogs for size!

Favourite frogs and colours?
Thanks everyone! I have been having best luck with black then yellow! Would love to grab a brownish coloured one

Extra fast vs fast
I throw a 7’6” heavy extra fast as my flipping stick and love it!
-
My First bait caster
Well congrats then on the new rod! You’ll love it. Got a Chatterbait tied to mine currently and just love throwing that rod!
-
My First bait caster
Sounds perfect! Your going love that set up. Which 734c did you go with? Fury, Sierra, champion? Haven’t used the tatula ct but have the sv and it’s fantastic
-
Favourite frogs and colours?
Thank you, I’m going pick up some more spro’s and see if I can try grabbing a few different ones then and give them a go, and I’ll work with the white a little longer. I have fished it 3 times now without any hits on it
-
Favourite frogs and colours?
I have heard good things about those snagproof frogs will have to get my hands on them. Going to be picking up more kaera frogs as well
-
Favourite frogs and colours?
Thank you, I keep hearing how white has worked wonders for everyone but I can’t seem to get bit on the white coloured frogs! Livetarget black with black and blue legs, and Jackall kaera black gill just killed it

Favourite frogs and colours?
Last weekend I picked up a new frog fishing set up so naturally I have fishing the heck out of it. I’ve been out 6 times this week frog fishing and just having a blast. I got a g.loomis imx pro 884 twfr paired with a chronarch mgl with 50lbs pp. I have a few older spro’s and 1 booyah in my tackle box, and picked up a couple live target frogs as well. Been loving the live targets as my hook up percentage went through the roof. Then I grabbed some jackal kaera frogs on Thursday and once again went up through the roof. Those little kaera frogs are harder to walk, but smaller so the fish just devour them and the hooks are ridiculously sharp. Whats everyones favorite frog and what colour frog to throw and when?

My First bait caster
I agree on the 734c being a great first rod, it was my first baitcaster. It’s labeled as a heavy but is very much so a medium heavy which is what your looking for. Great action for majority of baits. Light for frogs but would work in a pinch. I don’t own any other dobyns and prefer a few different companies rods over dobyns personally but the 734 is a tough all around rod to beat! I agree on the Fuego CT though. I am a shimano guy myself but if your budget is 200-250, the Sierra or champion on sale in 734c and take whatever’s left over for a fuego when they go on sale. A lot of reel for the money

Any rod suggestions?
I bank fish a ton and I love a 7’ rod. I use to only use rods in the 6’6” range and now everything but 1 is 7’ or longer. Casting distance has dramatically improved, control on the fish, power in the rod just like everything about it. i don’t do any fishing from a kayak but have been told by a few that a little bit longer rod can help with controlling the fish if it takes off under or around the kayak as you can swing out around the front which makes sense. But I could definately see some negatives to a longer rod as well in a kayak

Daiwa and shimano reels
I don’t have any real experience or hands on with the DC, but the tatula sv is a great reel! So simple to use, casts excellent, great when switching between baits. That being said I also have the curado K and 2 chronarch mgl’s ans I much prefer them over the tatula, nothing against the tatula’s but those shimano to me out cast, smoother reeling, feel a bit more refined. But I don’t know if you’d go wrong either way

Heavy Rod lure weight recommendation only 3/4, is it ok to go into cover with it?
I’m currently using a g.loomis imx pro 884 twfr rated for 3/4 on the high side and spent the last 3 days throwing 5/8oz frogs in a pond with fairly thick mats and pulled 20-30 fish with a few in the 3.5-4.5lb round and didn’t feel under powered once!

884c twfr first impressions
Well I have been looking for a frog rod for a little while now and the 884c twfr has been on my mind since I’ve started shopping. With very minor information floating around in reguards to the 884 I figured I’d throw my 2 cents in for anyone who is curious. Side by side I had the zodias 7’2 heavy fast, 7’5” extra heavy fast, st. Croix ltb slop-n-frog, shimano crucial 7’3 heavy with a few others that were laying around. Weaning a few of them out really quickly I walked out with the loomis 884c twfr. I think for really really thick stuff the 885 would be a much better choice but this rod can definately do it if you aren’t always throwing into thick stuff. I grabbed a chronarch mgl and spooled up 50lbs power pro braid and a 1/2oz frog and hit the pond. Water is really low as they are pumping out for crop and the mats were thicker then usual but figured it would be a good test. I ended up missing close to 7 or 8 blowouts, but hooked into 7 bass from 1.25lbs to 5lbs 4oz, in open water to the thickiest stuff the pond had to offer. This rod preformed flawlessly. Plenty of backbone to horse that 5lber out of a thick mat and over a fallen down log, yet soft enough to throw that 1/2oz frog across the pond even on a really windy day! Needless to say I am very thrilled by this rod and pleased I made the choice with the loomis over the zodias. Not tomention the weight and balance is great on the rod. I will be hitting 3 different ponds tomorrow to try putting it through it’s paces again!
