  1. I didn’t know the nrx was rumored to come out! I do love my nrx
  2. I was thinking of trying the bunker buster but it’s only rated too 1.2 oz. it’s more then heavy enough, but I wanted to throw the 1.5oz on the Carolina in deep water. another thought was 7’6” xh expride, 905c mbr conquest (hard to find and maybe top my budget, so still thinking on that one),
  3. It’s okay, I just feel for the money they aren’t worth it. Sloppy quality control mainly. I have a buddy who would like it so I figured I could upgrade inwas looking at megabass and shimano mainly but hear awesome things about the ags guides. the main weights being thrown will be 1/2-1oz as our vegetation isn’t nearly as heavy. I wanted the 1 1/2oz to be able to get down to the depths fast on the Carolina rig and the odd like that’s heavy veg
  4. I don’t want to go custom but didn’t really think about budget. I’d like to throw comfortably in the 1 1/2oz range with trailers. Not something I do a bunch but don’t want to feel like it’s going break when I do
  5. So I’m looking to replace 1 rod in my Arsenal this year as last year I upgraded pretty much everything else. A few spinning reels need upgrading as well so that’s my focus this season. I currently have a 13 fishing envy black 7’6” heavy that I’m looking at upgrading. I’d like to use use this rod for a few techniques if possible but mainly will have a creature tied on for flipping. It might do a little Caroline rigging as well. Looking at trying another megabass but open to options in the loomis, and shimano expride series current line up consists of; - glx 822dsr drop shot - expride 7’ lite plus for neds mainly - nrx 852s main spinning set up -glx 852c tubes mainly -nrx 853c a lot of senko work and jigs around docks -glx 894c main jig rig - expride 7’2” med heavy moving back rod (chatter, paddle tail, spinner baits) -imx pro 845cbr squarebill rod -imx pro 884 frog rod - orochi xx launcher deep crank this new rod will replace my creature baits flipping, Carolina rigs etc.
  6. Yes sir! Have it paired with a stradic fk at the moment but looking at potentially changing it. sweet stick
  7. I just got a megabass f6-711 launcher and so far I love it. It has a 17” handle and find it very useable and sits in the right position. I am 5’10” tall so someone who is much longer might not have the same results
  8. All shimano for me. Fished two quantum’s and hated them, 1 abu and it was okay but doesn’t feel as refined. Had 2 daiwa’s and they were great I just fell in love with my shimano casters and it’s all I have now. Really debating on trying some daiwa spinning reels though as I’m selling off two shimanos
  9. I have 2 ci4’s, 1 ci4+ and 1 fk. I’m selling both ci4’s and will wait for the new Vanford to try for one and the fl for the other. Between the fk and the ci4+ I prefer the ci4+ due to weight. It’s on a light rod so it’s just so pleasant to fish all day. The fk is a great reel and so smooth. You cant really go wrong with either. I’m really looking forward to the fl though
  10. I like them for frogging, pitching a jig or t-rig. Just allows you to bit your targeted zone, get back to the boat fast to get to the next Targeted zone. And for frogs it allows you to try and get the fish out of the slop as fast as possible before he gets you tangled and wrapped up
  11. Well I currently have 2 bantams now and prefer the feel of them in general: your right for the style of fishing the K would of been great. But personally I don’t like my k. It casts a mile, it feels nice, looks awesome but has a manufactures defect that’s super hard to explain and sent it back and still has the problem. Best way I can try and explain it is, when tension is on the line and I press the clutch release. It will not re engage. The handle will spin and spin and the gears just grind as almost like the teeth are juuusst too far apart. Once tension is released no problem. example would be on a cast if a fish happen to hit it right when it hit the water I’d have no way of reeling it in. It would just grind and free spoon until slack hit the line. Another example is if I reel in and boat flip but have the fish too high and press the thumb release/clutchbar to lower to a more workable height I can re engage until I put slack in the line.
  12. My first expride I went in to look for a spinning rod. When I got there they only had the 6’8, 7’ light plus, and 7’ medium. I grabbed the light plus to try and have been blow away with the rod! I have it paired with a 2500 fk and it doesn’t feel bad. A 1000 fk/fl would of been better or the ci4+ but the 2500 fk really isn’t that bad!! Keeps the rod tip up slightly which is works for my ned rigs! In general, love the rod!!
  13. as luck would have it rod showed up Tuesday for my birthday. Upon inspecting it I notice tip was broken. Well thank god yesterday I found another one in stock 1.5hr drive from home. Getting there and they had the 6 gear bantam too!! Perfect timing as I leave in an hour for my fishing trip
  14. Honestly I’d be happy either way, just depends on rod company. My t-rig rod is a 7’6 heavy extra fast. Loads up super quick, got loads of power to horse then out. My heavier and main jig rod is actually a heavy fast action (glx 894c). Rod just flat out fishes nice. 7’5” in length, fished deep water beautiful, loads of power but super sensitive. My more finesse or small jig rod, dock rod or shallow water rod is an nrx 853c. Shortest of the bunch at 7’, medium heavy and extra fast again. That rod is seeing more use each time I go out as I find it to be very universal for throwing jigs in medium cover, tossing a senko if I want to change it up, a heavier shaky head if I want to play that card. Just cause I enjoy the rod so much I even sometimes throw poppers and such on it. Just my overall favourite set up.
  15. On my squarebill set up ive been throwing same line, same bait and same rod but have tried 4 different reels. So far my tatula sv (now sold) gave me the least distance, my current (chronarch mgl) balances beautifully and 2nd best distance, the bantam mgl (was brand new and find it had to break in first) was better then the tatula but not as good as the chronarch (might be different now as casting distance has just improved on it), and the first one I had on it was a 13 fishing concept c. Definitely had the best distance there. That thing could launch them. Not much further then the chronarch but it was further. I’d say within 3-4 feet difference. That said it was the pickiest reel, horrible in wind, if you even think about possibly changing tension or brakes it blows up. But when set up just right it bombs them (also sold now). my favourite is the chronarch Mgl for sure but Like I said now that the bantam all of a sudden seems to be gaining more distance and “breaking in” so to speak, it would be my preference I think. I know you aren’t interested but I believe flouro 12-16lbs range is your best bet for line for cranks. I’m trying braid for the first time this season to see how it changes things but as of now I’ll be changing back for next season. Just want to give it a fair shot first.
  16. Thank you everyone. i figures a 7 gear ratio tranx is probably little less then ideal so I’m going skip the tranx. I found a bantam so got it on hold so I can grab it Friday. Problem now is rod showed up with broken tip lol. So back to looking for a second rod. Hoping I can get it sorted out (money back and shipped) before vacation so I can buy second rod. still looking for longer handle but will make it work for now. So right now the set up will be megabass orochi xx launcher paired with shimano bantam. Will spook up with 12lbs sniper I believe (thought I had some but it’s 16lbs). If for some reason I find the bantam less then ideal I have another rod a 6 gear ratio would work decent on and can do some switching around and get something different
  17. Well I went and took a look at the tranx 201, 301. Calcutta 201d and 301d. I think I’m going keeP looking for a the bantam around me as I own one, love it but it’s sold out everywhere in Canada. the tranx 301 and Calcutta 301 is too big. The tranx 201 is only offered in hg (7 gear ratio). The Calcutta 201d I was thoroughly impressed with. Mind blowingly smooth, but I’ve never fished round reel and would like to try one before dropping 500 dollars on one. I don’t like the way you have to rip it apart to set it up. The bantam I have and love, I’ll Look into ordering a longer handle for it as suggested.
  18. I fish from the banks a lot and know exactly what you mean: the weeds are a nightmare. But in my experience the long rod still helps. I don’t find I have the power on a short rod like I do with say a 7’2-7’6” rod. So I fish a 7’4” rod from the bank for frogs. I find the longer rod also helps me get around the weeds, horse the fish out of the slop
  19. I’ve never had a round reel but would prefer to stay with low profile. The 10xd wouldn’t be thrown a whole bunch, it will mainly be 6xd, 300x and deep six. the tranx reels crossed my mind but they just don’t feel as refined as the curado’s or bantam reels do. I plan on throwing sunline assassin or sniper 12-16lbs line.
  20. So if you had to choose one which one would it be? im struggling to find a 6 gear ratio bantam but can’t find the dc. I’m definitely leaning towards the bantam though as I love mine. I found mine needed some time as well! I was actually slightly disappointed in casting distance compared to the chronarch mgl. It’s finally breaking in a bit and starting to get more and more pleased with it every time I take it out!!
  21. fingers crossed cause I’ve invested lol. That being said my chronarchs get the hardest use I’d say and so far no issues what so ever. So hopefully the rest stay the same. I had a tat sv and found it super easy in the wind but also found it too be there second pickiest reel I owned so I sold it. That being said once I got use to the svs braking system I haven’t struggled in the wind much. First thing I noticed was the distance I got out of this reel. Sitting on top of my nrx 853c I can bomb a senko roughly 20-25 feet further then any other reel that I’ve tried. I had a chronarch mgl on it for a while and I have a pond close to my house and constantly I would be 20 feet from the bank on the other side with a senko. With a 5/16 finesse jig and trailer I would be 10-15 feet from bank. The 16 met mgl would be closer to 15 feet with the senko. Slightly further but not enough to make a reel difference I’d say. Well tonight against the wind and with the wind I cleared the pond on almost every cast effortlessly.
  22. So I have 1 curado k, 4 chronarch mgl’s, 1 bantam mgl, 1 16 met mgl and now the 2020 met. And you have to try it, it’s incredible. Casting distance is the furthest yet! Incredible solid, wildly smooth casting and retrieve. I like my 16 met, but love my chronarch’s. For the money I find the chronarch bullet proof and casting is amazing. This new met is leagues above everything else. I wish I could just replace the whole line up with Mets.... if only if only. it’s also been the easiest reel for skipping. Almost every new reel hits the same exact rod and same exact baits to test retrieve, casting distance and try my luck at skipping. And so far tbis met is by far the best yet!
  23. I’m an avid shimano reel guy so want to stick with that. I currently have the curado k, 3/4 chronarch mgl’s, a bantam mgl, met mgl and the new 2020 met mgl. I ordered a megabass launcher for deep cranking which should be here on Tuesday which is my birthday coincidentally!! So now I’d like to grab a reel for it before it shows up as I leave next weekend for a week fishing trip. im torn between the bantam mgl 6 gear ratio or the curado dc as I hear good things about them for cranking (distance mainly). I’ll be throwing 6xd’s mainly, x 300, deep six and the odd 10xd
  24. I have a 7’ light plus expride with an fk on it (bought it a month before the fl came out :(.. ) and it feels nice. The heavier medium rod would probably compliment it better. Plus the colour would go so well together. I have my ci4 + on my nrx and love both reels. I’m looking at getting the fl next to try... that or the exsence if I can talk my wife in to getting it for my birthday lol
  25. I’ve been really trying to working on skipping with a caster and it’s hard! I’ve been using my nrx 853c paired with a met mgl. I’m trying to learn without changing the brakes. If I totally rework my reel so that it is specifically for skipping it’s a lot easier but to transition back and forth is a pain. That’s why I’m trying to learn without touching and messing with the way I normally have the reel
