  1. Don’t own a Lews but own the new Curado K, chronarch mgl, some reels from a manufacture I can’t speak off and daiwa reels. The chronarch is my favourite reel for sure
  2. 7’ medium heavy moderate-fast gloomis imx pro, a reel that can’t be named in the 6.6:1, 15lbs invisx
  3. Was always told spinning will cast further but there is a local stocked pound that we fish on the regular and my best casting spinning rod 7’ medium avid x with a shimano nasci. I can make it almost 3/4 across the pound. My Stradic ci4+ with my loomis just a little less distance. But all my casting will atleast match distance and a few will surpass for sure!!
  4. I just picked up my first dedicated crankbait rod and while shopping for weeks the general consensus was a medium or medium heavy moderate or moderate fast rod unless you doing real deep diving crankbaits. I use to use a 7’ medium fast spinning rod for most of my fishing including cranks and now that I’ve fished the moderate fast I don’t think I’d ever go back. My hook up ratio has increased significantly!! I also went with a medium heavy for the little extra back bone for when I hook up with a big boy close to weeds.
  5. 30 lbs braid 10lbs leader
  6. I have a 7’ medium fast avid x with braid and a Fluro leader tied with the fg knot and it works like a charm
  7. Awesome thanks! Looks like I might have to get a Fuego for frogs
  8. I would have to say get the zillion for that price. A heck of a rod for half price. I don’t have a fury but have heard nothing but great things! I do have the zillion, a Dobyns sierra, Kistler Helium lta, tatula xt, Avid x, e6x and an imx pro. I wouldnt say the zillion is my favourite but it is a great rod! And for that price I’d buy 10 more!
  9. Like I said I have a rod without a reel and over the past couple months I sent way way too much and I really want another sv or k but just think I should find a cheaper alternative
  10. Debated on getting one myself. Looking for a frog reel. Have the tat sv, Curado K. Been looking for a cheaper reel as I keep going up or staying around the 250-300 plus dollar price point. Be nice to try a lower end reel and everyone says Fuego!
  11. I’ve fished shimano and phlueger a bunch, but never a daiwa. Maybe the Fuego as the bg just seems heavy.
  12. I have 1 dobyns, now it’s a Sierra series as I couldn’t find a champion or champion xp in stock and I have been super please with it. I have played with the champions a few timed. i have 1 Loomis E6X and 1 imx pro and man do I ever love that imx pro. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another. I’d have to vote the loomis for sure as they are same price and same warranty. Not sure what was meant by the dobyns being better value?
  13. I surprised about how little the shimano was talked about. I figured the nasci was a great reel!! And for the money there almost the same as the Fuego lt
  14. A buddy of mine was looking into getting his first “nicer” spinning rod and reel. Normally the combo costing less then 100. We got him a st. Croix mojo bass, 7’ medium fast action and looking for a reel. I have been unbelievably happy with my shimano nasci but wanted to see what you guys recommend for the same price range as the nasci. He is tight on cash and that’s about as much as he will spend
  15. Well if it’s anything like the zillion rod it is much faster and more stout then the dobyns 734.
  16. Should of read the post above before posting lol. Must of missed it. Congrats on your new purchases and I hope you enjoy the new rods. Once you give them a go let us know what you think! Super curious on what you think about these new rods. The ci4+ is a beautiful little reel, I love mine on my e6x when dipping for walleye
  17. I have finished with and or currently own a st. Croix mojo bass, avid X spinning and avid X casting. I also have an E6x and an imx pro. I personally love the loomis Rods. I’ve been super happy with the avids as well but my e6x feels more sensitive but it’s a bit of an unfair cause it’s a little bit of a lighter rod. If your set on the e6x series vs the bass x I’d 100% go with the e6x as like mentioned there marketed to compete with the avids. If your looking at trying the loomis Rods and don’t mind spending a little extra dough grab an nrx or glx, not that I’ve owned either but will definately get one sooner or later as I love the feel of my imx pro and it’s not as good as the nrx or glx so I couldn’t image how great they are. The IMX PRO is another series that wouldn’t be bad to get. Great rods at a little more then the e6x but not as much as glx or nrx. i don’t know the truth behind this but a gentleman I deal with at a local store was a st. Croix guy until last season when he fished the glx and imx pro series rods. He said the glx blew any of his st. Croixs out of the water (legend extremes, elites etc.) and the imx pro was more of a comparison to the legends and he still felt the imx were better rod.
  18. Awesome thanks! I’m probably going grab the faster gear ratio as I have another rod I might be able to throw topwaters on and it’s got a 6.3:1. Debating between another tatula sv, another Curado K or maybe a reel from a company unable to be spoken of lol. 22lbs of drag sounds nice for frogs
  19. What gear ratio do you prefer for frogging? Do you use the same for other topwaters or do you like a slower for topwaters like spook JR, hula poppers, jitterbugs and such? What reel do you use? Going to try my daiwa zillion rod for frogs and topwater. Little light so it will be used for more open water and light cover frogging.
  20. Still fairly new to different techniques of bass fishing, and just upgraded my equipment over late fall and winter so my setups are too new to really choose my favourites. But if I were I’d have to say; baitcasters 1.) 7’ medium-heavy fast Kistler Helium jig and worm rod, teamed up with a shimano Chronarch mgl, 15lbs invisx. 2.) 7’6” *** *** heavy extra fast flipping stick, with a Curado 201k hg 50lbs power pro 3.) 7’ g.loomis imx pro 845c cbr that will be used for shallow, mid, lipless and squarebill crankbaits and certainly topwaters. Concept C, 15lbs invisx 4.) 7’3” Dobyns Sierra 734c, planning on chatterbaits, small swimbaits, paddletails. Daiwa Tatula sv tws spinning 5. & 6.) g.loomis e6x 2 piece walleye rod, 6’6” medium fast, teamed with a Shimano Stradic ci4+ for my walleye rod and 7’ st. Croix avid x medium fast, teamed with a shimano nasci for bass fishing drop shot, and smaller finesse fishing.
  21. Yes perhaps. When I said stiff I meant it’s like a heavy. Instead of a medium heavy. But it is fast, very fast for sure compared too my imx pro moderate fast, or even the dobyns 734 fast. The Daiwa seems like it is faster, making me think it could be a good frog rod. If not I might sell it and try a Megabass tour versatile
  22. I just have to shift some reels around and pick up one more to use on the potential frog rod. I have a tatula sv on the 734 now which will be moved too my imx pro cranking rod, then grab either a *** or another Chronarch mgl for the Daiwa or dobyns. im more curious which one you would probably try?
  23. Thank you, both of these are rated 1/4-1oz, 10-20lbs line.
  24. So over late last season and throughout the winter I invested in some new fishing setups as I’m starting to get a lot more into fishing. I think I’ve pretty much blown my budget and don’t know if I’ll be able to get myself a frogging set up so wanted your guys advice on a few rods I currently have that might be able to double down as a frog rod. I’m trying to sell one rod that I don’t need to pick up a frog rod but not sure if I will get what I need out of it. Anyways where I normally fish cover isn’t too heavy, and mats are that thick. So I was wondering if I could use a Dobyns SIERRA 734c it says heavy but it feels more like a medium heavy for frogs? The other rod I have that I’m not sure on is a diawa zillion 7’2” crankbait rod medium heavy regular. Now this rod confused me and the only reason I bought it was due to price. It feels way more like a fast almost an extra fast, and it’s definately on the heavier side of that medium heavy. I’m no expert but it 100% does not feel like a crankbait rod. I figured it might make a decent frog rod as it’s faster then my jig rod and dobyns but not as fast as my flipping stick. For anything with real dense or thick mats I’ll probably just use my 7’6” flipping stick. so what’s your thoughts on the seirra 734 or the Daiwa zillion as a lighter frog rod?
