  1. I expect to see a lot of those heritage boats on the water, in the near future. Bass Pro sold a ton of them, around here
  2. welcome. there is a wealth of knowledge here. look forward to your posts.
  3. I have several different creature baits in my boat. Most of the time a havoc Pit boss is what I am throwing. It has produced more quality fish for me than all others combined. Plus The local Walmart always has a good supply of them at a reasonable price.
  4. took me an hour to get the first bite. not much was happening in the shallows. The fish were all in 6-10 ft of water. All I could catch them on was a Ned Rig.
  5. Decided to take a break from the reservoirs and hit Olathe. was hoping to catch a lot of fish and was not disappointed. I was the only person on the lake all day. planned on flipping the water willows, but they are still pretty thin and were not holding many fish. started fishing a mud minnow TRD on a ned head and caught a bunch of bass. I lost count, but would guess around 50 for the day. there are a ton of 15-17 inch bass in that lake.
  6. i can't even begin to imagine the misery from that. I tore a muscle on my bottom rib. For 3 weeks, every time I moved it felt like somebody shoved a knife below my rib. that is nothing compared to what you must have went through.
  7. I use Fishidy to compare Navionics maps to my Lakemaster maps. neither are 100% accurate.
  8. praying everything turns out well for you and your family @Bluebasser86
  9. I would hope everyone that uses this sight, buys a fishing license. if you know of someone poaching, turn them in. If you ignore it, then you have no reason to complain. Since nearly all states are underfunded and short handed on officers, I feel it is the responsibility of ethical hunters and fishermen to turn in violators. You don't have to give your name. nearly all states have an anonymous hotline. They welcome your calls , no matter how small the violation. This is for Kansas
  10. the only time I have ever been checked in Kansas was on a local county lake that requires a special permit. it is patrolled by the sheriffs department. last year the same deputy checked me 11 times. I honestly think he was bored and just wanted to talk. he only checked for a permit. never checked for a fishing license. I spend a lot of time fishing and hunting public areas. I have never seen a conservation officer in Kansas, while in the field or on the water.
  11. i fish alone 95% of the time. I fish during the week while most people are at work. it is refreshing to have a partner in the boat occasionally. I am always more successful when I am alone. when someone else is in my boat I spend a lot more time trying to get them in position to fish.
  12. so far I have had a lot fewer mysterious breakoffs with the high seas, than any flourocarbon I have used. Can't count the times I have broken off mysteriously with some flourocarbon lines. from my own experience flourocarbon is great unless you get a kink in the line, then you might as well be using sewing thread.
  13. I am currently using sunline sniper or berkley 100% flouro on most of my casting rods. the cost is ridiculous. after you mentioned the high seas grand slam, I decided to give it a try. it has worked well, so far. It handles similar to the Sunline. one major advantage is it is much more forgiving on knots. I plan on using it to replace the more expensive lines as they wear out. at $7.99 a spool it is hard to beat. It is also available at Walmart.
  14. kansas does not allow the use of artificial light unless hunting behind dogs. they are worried about people shining deer.
  15. same here. even though it has been debunked many times. I still prefer a copolymer or flouro line on a slow moving bait. i fish it better, because I have more confidence the fish will not be line shy. old beliefs die hard.
  16. nice. probably did not go far after 2 shots from a 308. there are a ton of them in my neighborhood. thought about trying to call them in and shooting them with a bow. have not done it yet, because no one has been able to answer me on the legality of shooting one in city limits.
  17. With the fishing pressure Smithville receives, there are few secrets. The fish are there, but they have seen nearly every bait available. I fish Smithville once a week . Used to have limited success. I still don't catch numbers, but usually catch a few nice sized fish each trip. It is probably one of the best places around the metro to catch a trophy. it is also one of the most expensive,if you don't live in Clay County. I very seldom fish standing timber. I look for lay downs and brushpiles on channel swing banks, with small rock or gravel. Fish wild hold somewhere around these most of the year. This combination is limited on the lake and it takes a lot of running the big motor. With the low water level this spring, a lot of the lay downs are high and dry. To me Lakemaster or Navionics is a must on this lake. Burtons bait and tackle, in Smithville, has memory cards with the coordinates of nearly every brushpile in the lake. He will let you download them into your fish finder. most of the year, creature baits (havoc pit boss is my favorite)and big worms accounts for the majority of fish I catch at Smithville.
  18. Went to Hillsdale today. First time I had a boat on that lake. spent a good portion of the day looking for fishy looking areas. No giants, but caught enough 1-2.5 pound bass to make it interesting. nearly all of the fish were caught pitching shallow laydowns, on a green pumpkin havoc pit boss. It got windy and rough in the afternoon, so I fished the marina and caught 1/2 dozen on a ned rig. From my first visit ,it seems to have a good population of bass.
  19. i usually find the wipers by accident, when fishing for white bass. usually somewhere along the old road bed that runs out from the island. Usually a couple boats there jigging for them.
  20. that lake has a lot of bassy looking cover, but all I have ever caught there are dinks. I usually go there for the white bass and wipers.
  21. fished Smithville hard for 6 hours today. caught 12 bass total. No drum. one of the few trips there, that I caught more bass than drum. caught 2 in the 14-15 inch range in crows creek on a spinnerbait. caught 8 in the 13-17 inch range in camp branch on a squarebill and a Pit boss caught this 2.5 pound and 4.5 pound bass in the Trimble area on a Pit boss. all fish were extremely shallow.
  22. I coyote hunt in the off season. In my own experience, eastern Kansas coyotes are hard to call in. I have called in more with turkey calls, than all other calls combined. a lot of the conventional sounds from my electric caller has not worked here. wish they would let you use lights for coyotes. day hunting here is tough.
  23. no just largemouth. they all looked spawned out already. caught a few fish that looked like wipers and a few that looked like white bass. does shawnee have both?
  24. Fished Shawnee today for the first time. water temp was 65 degrees. started jerkbaiting shallow points and bays. all I caught were small males and white bass. found a few bigger fish in 10-15 ft. off of a couple steep banks. only thing they would bite was a trick worm on a shakyhead. nothing big. a half dozen in the 1.5 to 2.5 lb range. not too bad for a first trip.
  25. they have adapted to living in town here. one neighbor lost a cat and another neighbor had their dog attacked by coyotes. I hear them howling every night. while turkey hunting public ground, this spring, I called in a coyote. he was stalking my decoys. I was bowhunting, he spooked before I got a shot.
